Very thirsty. I can drink more than normal?
ProudGrammy replied to gibson_girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
gibson g_irl as everyone else has said..... at 3+ days po you need to be nice to your new tummy if NUT says 6 oz per hour is good - go for it as OP said - consider yourself lucky that you are able to drink so much so easily your NUT will eventually give you "permission" to drink more its great that you love water so much drink as much water as possible as soon as NUT gives you the go ahead 64 oz is what you are supposed to have - sounds like you will be able to drink much more!!!! thats terrific!!! knock your socks off!! welcome to the start of your new healthier, happier, longer life!!!! good luck!!! -

No drinking 30 minutes before or after meals?
ProudGrammy replied to nessieberry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
nessieberry yogurt, cottage cheese - this is the "soft" stage - the Water rules come into play stop drinking about 30 minutes before you are going to eat NEVER drink with your meals (biggie that is difficult for many/most) when you are done eating - do NOT drink for 45-60 minutes drink at least 64+ oz a day - the more the better you will be able/allowed to gulp after a while check with your NUT - she's the one with the final word these are very, very important rules that must be followed i have heard of people being shot when/if they don't comply MrsG (that crafty smart lady "above") gave a great answer with the analogy of a funnel!!!! an hourglass - sand in one "compartment" pour a little water slowly into the glass nothing really happens pour again, and you'll see a little sand (aka food) flow through the glass slowly continue to pour water through the glass and more and more sand (food) will go through the glass (stomach) pour more water through - and see how all of a sudden the sand passes through and the glass is empty that is how your tummy will be - empty - you'll be hungry don't add any water (don't drink) your tummy will keep the sand in (aka food) your new little tummy will be smiling , making you and tummy feel all warm and cuddly inside the time periods of waiting to drink might vary from one nut to another - always listen to your nut (or me ) you will learn/hear that all NUT'S/surgeons are different you are right , understanding the rules - makes it easier to follow these important rules congrats on successful WLS - continue to do what you are supposed to do - you will do great always come back here with more questions (but your NUT gives the final word) so you could ask her first be good to the sleeve, and it will be good to you you are on the road to a healthier, happier, longer life you might/will have a few bumps and bruises in the road thats how life works for all of us - but life/you will continue daily to feel better good luck -
Chris P Bacon this is NOT off topic most/all people are nervous about job interviews betcha you are looking really handsome in that good fitting suit ewwwww - i see you now lookin' good dude (please stand up straighter - head high!!!) don't be nervous when you look at the guy interviewing you - look at him like he was only wearing his underwear!!!! SpaceDust Good for you!!!! taking that first step, calling the gym, thats great!!! it always helps when you exercise with someone!! and yes you are right building up my muscle mass now won't hurt my weight loss post-surgery, either! exercising is also great "mentally" makes you feel better about yourself - you "get out there" seeing/meeting other people too can you do an extra 30 minutes on the eliptical for me??? i'll try and get back to the gym "next week" only kidding - i go to the gym, but i should go more often you know, "do as i say, not as i do" take care luck, luck and more luck

My confession. I fell of the wagon
ProudGrammy replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
O.T.R. hey guy "confession" - good for the soul??? I think so i know you knew you had to stop the overeating and all - but if it was so easy to do that , none of us would be here i think a slip like you had is inevidable for all/most of us sleevers we're like those "recovered" alcoholics - that always must say "i am an alcoholic", regardless if their better - they will always for considered an alcoholic well..........I'm a food addict - don't know if i feel better admitting that - but what i said it the truth if you/us don't admit we have a problem - how can we "fix" it????? i know/think it helps to speak about what you/me/us "did" you feel more accountable - you might not feel better immediately about admitting your goof , but it does help me for me its like getting a weight off my shoulder fessing up - even if its only "me" giving myself a good talking to when i "put it out there" its like i am making it official to myself/or you guys i now have told the world - so i go ahead and get back on that wagon if i don't get back to my new normal ways, i'm always afraid that one of you guys will kick me in the a sssss if i fall again I won't mention any names - this is just between laura-ven and myself!!!!oooops course a good kick in the butttt is never a bad thing you just gotta look harder now to find my buttttt don't be too hard on yourself - you don't deserve to beat yourself up anymore we'll talk next month at the "whats best" meeting!!!! i'm bringing an extra lrge Water bottle with your name on it!!! take care you are back on the road of success with your best friend and mine - The Amazing Sleeve -

first post op flying experience
ProudGrammy replied to Fiddleman's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Fiddleman i totally get what you mean some time ago i flew, couldn't buckle my seatbelt - so i tried to fake it - acted like the belt was closed couldn't fool the attendent - she discreetly put her hand on the seat by me, she was giving me an extender!!! that never happened to me before - somehow i was always able to buckle briefly (then unbuckle as soon as i could) i was very upset over the situation i wanted to cry (i did inside ) i know how great you are now feeling excited to ride on the plane soon for family vaca!!!! how wonderful is that I also can related to OP that are heavy, i feel bad cuz i remember being in there situation i sometimes wish i could shake some "heavier" people up and say, hey - listen to me - you can improve your life by having WLS - you don't have to continue life like "this" you can get healthy et al - but of course i never say anything gotta throw in my NSV - hope thats ok i went to GA about 6 weeks ago - i was assigned that middle seat between "2 strangers" you should have seen me "hop" into that seat, my tush felt so good with all that space on each side of me i didn't exactly do the happy dance - but you should have seen me grinning all the way to GA and back Fiddleman - sounds like all continues to be well BTW - I would love to go to Hawaii with you and DW et al if you have a small suitcase - i can now fit in it I'll even fly coach take care guy -
ISleevedit why do you sound so surprised???? I knew you could do it!!!! you are looking great!!!! keep up the good work

axd0424 OMG - what did you say??? tell me you didn't really eat 3 slices of pizza two days before WLS??? people have been shot for less between you and me (everyone else cover your ears) - i went on a food funeral for almost a week prior to surgery many people do this - not a good thing - but for some (like me) i felt i was never gonna be able to eat again, so i splurged ok, to all that were "good little sleevers" and covered your ears - you can now take your hands off your ears!!! to "you" that didn't listen to me - you must now have 10 Protein shakes in the next hour course if you didn't listen to me before, i doubt you will now of course i found out soon enough that you will eat "normal" again you can definitely eat pizza later - just very smalllll piece your tummy is now small - it holds a teeny bit of food that will happily make you full!!, at the same time your craving will be satisfied you'll probably be tired Tuesday morning you'll be nervous from worry the night before take a nap during WLS - they won't mind best of luck on tuesday speedy recovery
-
bug02 its great that you do have family/friends support! unfortuantely many people don't have that support family/friend - no, other people aren't in your shoes they can't possibly really relate - but they are there for you!!!! thats a good thing!!!! and "we're" all around too, anxiously waiting to hear how things are going (most of us our nosey ) I am 15 months PO, and i'm still around to talk about "it" having major surgery like the WLS - OMG its scary for almost all of us!!!! Surgery on Wednesday - egads getting close!!!! understandable to be scared and nervous - give yourself some time to be happy and excited - you are doing something great for yourself - good for you!!! your new life is about to start take a nap during surgery when you wake up, you might hurt alittle with some gas et al hopefully you'll start to feel better gradually, sooner than later!!!! you will continue on the road to better health, happiness and a longer life you will probably have a few bumps in the road but that's ok - the outcome/result of the sleeve are great. remember, you have to work with the sleeve - then the sleeve will work for you you have to follow the "rules" of the sleeve!!! sleeve needs your help, so "it" can help you good luck on Wednesday i will be rooting you on best of luck speedy recovery

butterfly_gal longgggggggg time ago when i was a little newbie (or should i say big!!!)....... someone made a comment about their shoe sizes getting smaller i thought, how silly, are you kidding me?????????? boy was i surprised when i realized its true!!!!! you are a smart "cookie" treating yourself to lovely boots, shoes instead of clothes you will grow out of!!!!! now you can go and kick some a_ ssssss ("bad word police" are around and they don't like you to say certain words !!!) watch out for "them" they are everywhere in the past you might have rewarded yourself with some goodies (of course that would be pretty silly now!! hope your recovery is going nicely take care happy belated b'day

now that the weight is dropping off i feel like i could've done this myself
ProudGrammy replied to toy27's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
toy27 glad the weight is coming off!!! i don't "think' you did this WLS in vain - it is wonderful you will be very happy with your results!!! i would have too much trouble keeping the weight off (that was my main concern) i/we yo yo'd all our lives - losing, gaining etc it was getting the better of me - diabetes, hb pressure - CPAP in my case and many OP - we can loose the weight, just never able to keep the weight off without the help of the sleeve - i woundn't have been able to get the weight off i had to take serious steps to improve my life continued success good luck -
froggymama15 congrats on your marvelous weight loss you loosing 150 lbs with the help of the sleeve is amazing - but then again you lost another 180 lbs or so when you divorced your husband happy for you that your new life - with new & "improved" hubby is going terrific keep up the good work for the rest of your longer, healthier, happier life
-
cant wait I respectfully say that you must /should work on stopping drinking now - before surgery!!!! I'm sure you are not an alcoholic, but.......... IMO i would listen to what the dr. said - he is looking out for you after surgery you will have a lot to deal with its great that you've been diligent with your food - already loosing 45 lbs!!! good job!!!! keeping in control of food and drinking Water PO, can be/ is hard enough for many/most dealing with your alcohol at the same time would be extremely difficult kindof like a smoker all of a sudden going cold turkey immediately PO take care of any and all problems first, before surgery IMO having to put off WLS for a bit, i agree what a bummer you have your whole new life in front of you but you should/need to improve your health so once you have WLS - your health will only get better and better with weight loss whatever you decide - i wish you well good luck with everything

HELP! I have a BIG problem with snacking. What can I Do?
ProudGrammy replied to sweetgirl1314's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
sweetgirl1314 hun, you can't see my face - but in the nicest way i'm saying "knock it off"! don't buy junk!!! i never have any junk in the house!!! i don't want/need any temptation this would trigger problems for me to no end - i can't go there!!! I can see you are a smart kiddo - and you wisely made the decision to have WLS to improve your life you can/will be successful - but you must get back to basics start again with Protein shakes maybe for a bit and stay on plan!!!! you have to!!! don't give up, its never too late to start again don't throw in the towel drink your Water properly, chew thoroughly, eat slowly - you know the routine!!!! i KNOW you can do this!!!! I just know it!!! you were very brave and went through major surgery to loose weight and improve your health and life you realized how necessary it was/is to loose weight!!! (no ticker ) don't know how much you need to loose! but whatever it is, apparently its bad enough that you realized you must do something to take the weight off!!!! we all must work to be successful the sleeve will help you loose weight, but you must work with the sleeve, and curb your eating best of luck to you -
Dr Ponce - complications
ProudGrammy replied to kerrbeari's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kerrbeari have to repeat what OP have said - and the new OP that follow this thread what a terrible experience you went through i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy what a mess!!! you were understandably upset, scared, angry sounds like things are gradually improving??, you are ready to work with the sleeve successfully?? do you have a NUT or your regular dr here that will advice you on your after care??? I sure hope so!!!! if you don't have any medical advice, try and get some look for a dr /nut that can at least briefly help you through this hard time of recuperation go to your local hospital - (even though they didn't perform WLS) i'm sure they would direct you to a support group are you alone at home - do you have mom, family around to help you??? I wouldn't push going back to work - you need to take it easy i think it would be worse to go back to work - be exhausted 1/2 way through the day, and just hurting too much better to explain to your boss you need more time off of course the above is IMO take care i hope you continue to feel better soon resume a normal life with the sleeve luck, luck, and more luck -
Is it realistic to not tell anyone I'm having surgery?
ProudGrammy replied to lyndeeboo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
lyndeeboo thats exactly what i said to myself DH, mom - 4 siblings and daughter - wasn't going to tell anyone else as time passed though, and lots of weight was lost.... people would ask me how i lost the weight...at the beginning i literally took a minute to answer the first person i told (an acquaintance) heard the news and was very supporting I continued to tell people about the WLS - kindof kept waiting for a "disapproving" look for me - it never happened - no one spoke bad of me (or kept it to themselves) i just felt funny not telling people i was gonna say the common "exercise, watching calories, small portions et al" for me - i'm glad i now tell everyone some people were extremely interested to the point they started exploring the WLS too!!!! but.............as everything else with WLS - we are ALL different whatever you decide, will be the right decision for YOU!! hope insurance goes well i will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you!!!! good luck!!! -
Burping and gurgling everytime I drink
ProudGrammy replied to CWAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Burping and gurgling every time I drink :D CWAM PO for quite a while a I also did the same while i was eating and my tummy started to say, "enough, enough"!!!! i would burp, hiccup so loudly i would be in the living room and my DH would be working in the den - a good distance away - and he always knew where i was!!! we also laughed pretty hard!!! i don't make noises as much anymore but.............at 16 months if you listen real carefully - you might still hear me if this is the worst problem you ever have.........be happy continued speedy recovery good luck
