How many vets are actually AT goal and staying there?
ProudGrammy replied to clk's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Georgia i agree with both of your statements - life is/can be hard and challenging we gotta keep a stiff upper lip, and constantly be aware of what you/me/we are eating and drinking easier said than done, but............... 3 years maintenance!!!! now that's what i'm talkin' about!!!! congrats on losing 100 lbs i understand about the stomach relaxing a bit more, restriction still there i weigh daily so if i'm ok with my eating and drinking, i shouldn't/won't gain we all know with the gastric bypass you can, and many do regain all their weight back but...........if i slip up and for example gain 10 - 15 lbs or so, its not that hard to take off???? you regained a bit, took most of it off, almost back to normal sleeve is always working with you - while you are working with the sleeve???? most people, if they have any "smarts" at all - wouldn't / shouldn't can't gain sooo much weight back???? right???? they/me/we realize - must take that little weight off before its toooo late not gonnna worry, worry about regaining that being said - being a little extra scared/concerned about gaining is good for me will help keep me on the straight and narrow after having major surgery - working hard - losing 105 lbs becoming a newer, healthier, happier me - i just can't /won't gain weight again from my lips to God's ears kathy -
First date since VSG
ProudGrammy replied to Indigo1991's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story

I never want to be fat again?
ProudGrammy replied to hewalkswithme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hewalkswithme hi there concentrate on today we can't change the past - its over and done with we can/must work hard on the present - doing our weight "thing" and all other good "stuff" it's too early to worry about what "might" happen in the future the future is "out there" - but don't dwell on gaining the weight back til you lose it first worrying a "bit" can be helpful, in the fact that you stay diligent to your eating, drinking (works for me) AFTER most/many people reach goal (me, me) there is the concern/fear about gaining weight back the ONLY way this can ever happen - is we forget/ignore all we've learned through out this process but i know you have a good memory I'm lucky for the fact that i do like Water - and am able to drink my 64 oz can't really add to OP's good suggestions on what to drink but...........i will say you need to drink more - some how!!!! i get that it is hard for you but you must come to some sort of "agreement" with yourself about a drink - or FORCE yourself to drink H20 i know this is easier said than done but we all or should know that water is essential to our life truth is, all "normal" people should drink lots and lots of water hope you can solve your situation about the water, liquids congrats on losing 30 lbs good luck with your continued weight loss kathy -
Lisa, Lisa Welcome Home i am sorry you have been, and are still going through your ordeal/problems personal and physical it can be/was hard to say what you did hopefully/maybe you feel better after spilling your guts therapeautic for me!!! you know the procedure with what you are supposed to do post WLS but its understandable if you need to be reminded of some of the many important rules Water rules especially if you did forget anything ask away - we don't bite well.......not usually Protein shakes, water - all that good stuff you ARE a success story, because you told/shared your life over these past years and i can see in your pretty face, eyes, and smile you are terrific as far as exercise......there is a video for people using a chair to exercise - because they can't do the alternative moving is moving you must get out of that chair (with help if necessary) your legs play "tricks" on you if you don't use the legs - they get all stiff, and stiff, and stiffer "use them or lose them" even just moving the legs around like OP mentioned is better than nothing arm circles, any basic movement you can think of is better than nothing you CAN and will do this we're all here to give encouragement and support whenever you need it take care hun you can have many new friends here!! raising my hand, raising my hand best of luck kathy

DUBrookie03 hey bud you are aces!!!!! 100 lbs century club OMG what more could one ask for???? wellllll.......... take care continued good luck kathy

How many vets are actually AT goal and staying there?
ProudGrammy replied to clk's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
hmmmmmmmmmm post op 17 months - maintaining goal 6 months i guess i'm not a "veteran" vet i keep my calorie count pretty accurate in my head i know i know, need to get back to MFP don't exercise much to speak of i definitely graze sometimes above statements true necessary statements to make so in other words i am NOT perfect!!! well, maybe i am!!! seriously i have those times i especially want to and do grab an extra Protein bar/2 bags of small popcorn i know i'm not hungry, i just want to eat like the old days Protein Bar has so many carbs!!!!!!!!! i weigh myself daily wearing the same birthday suit i fluctuate 2 lbs - never more but this HOT 59 year young grammy is one sexy chic i feel great!!!! am i misunderstanding - but do you think lots of sleevers are unsuccessful in the long run/keeping the weight off??? OMG- i didn't think that was the case sure i have to keep the thought that i have to be "good" people that have the gastric bypass - their tummy can stretch easily but, i've always heard from my NUT/surgeon that the sleeve can't/will not stretch since the "stretchy" part was removed this doesn't mean that we can eat like before........ i continue to eat correctly/Water protein (sometimes trouble there) i don't have any kids at home (except DH )so i don't buy ANYTHING "bad" - no Cookies, ice cream et al so the tempation is not there maybe as time passes, things will be harder for me - hopefully not there is no way, i have gone through this major surgery - worked so hard to lose my weight and improve my health, to now resort to old bad habits then of course gaining my weight back, and more importantly - getting unhealthy again so it does scare me when its inferred that some/many regain i don't know if i misunderstood one of the OP posts about regaining, and possible trouble post goal sorry i reread the above - and i wrote things out of order bye good luck to all of us we/you/me WILL survive DOS 12/15/11 235 lbs 5'3 today goal 135 lbs weight 130 59 years young still 5'3 kathy -
Holly terrific, terrific, terrific you'll be in the century club very soon i'm holding the door open for you keep up the great job/work kathy congrats

BKLYNga87-cata01 the thought of our sleeves stretching/ or not is a discussion that periodically comes up newbies especially are afraid of stretching their stomach i "used" to be a newbie too with those common feelings now i am a "grown up veteran!!! ) from an early point talking to my NUT and surgeon - they both explained that your sleeve 99.99999% can't stretch during WLS - when 85% our tummy was removed - the "stretchy" part was also removed this does not mean you can't regain you can "fool" the sleeve, by eating every few hours when your tummy is empty, eating many calories too or just trying to eat 24/7 and eventually you will get sick, and regain this stretching your sleeve???? you are abusing it/sabatoging yourself but per all what i have heard from my NUT/surgeon - and most/many, many on this board you will NOT/can not stretch your sleeve but ----you must always remain dilligent with your eating and drinking to be the healthy, happier successful sleever that we were all "born" to be!!!! please don't think "oh since i can't stretch my sleeve i will always be fine" no way is that true you MUST follow all the rules that we were taught............. for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life sorry i hi-jacked the conversation about Water Vixynees' post and link explained the water situation in a nutshell!!! Water rules IMO/and most others - is one of the MOST important rules to follow I'm a firm believer in "Rules Were NOT made to be broken!!" my "disclaimer" i am not a doc/nurse/or in the medical field i am just a sleever with experience and an opinion to give here is a drink to you and everyones health!!!! kathy
-
cato01 hi there sure its possible to get back on that horse you lost 65 lbs before!!! way to go!!!! get a head start, back to basics with Protein shakes follow all Water rules 30 minutes - don't drink before eating never drink during meal (people have been shot for less!) don't drink for about 45-60 minutes after you eat get at least 64 oz of H20 a day small portions chew, chew, chew little bites put utensil down between bites - and wait til you continue to eat measure your food put it on small plate hows that for reminder of basics/and what you will continue to do for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life!!!! do you have a NUT? if not maybe try and get one for a few consultations through health insurance, or its worth it to pay on your own if you can i see it in your pretty face, smile and eyes, that you are a strong determined lady now, get going do not pass go, do not collect $200.00 I KNOW you will succeed good luck kathy

ProudGrammy replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Amanda i had the same problem but for me it was my car betcha didn't know this, but there was this magnet in my car the magnet would pull me over to a fast food restaurant or a bakery i removed the magnet pre-op kathy -
JoannLz I know the feeling about an "absent" booty!!!! wore my old jeans forever through my weight loss process didn't go out of the house, retired in other words i couldn't really see a difference in my body/progress clothes showing they were too big of course i eventually took note of changes as time went by one day after my shower i looked in the mirror.......... turned around and said something like.... OMG - my tushy is gone unfortunately the remnants are all the flab hanging down corrected ok when i wear clothes and DH is the ownly one that sees me like that for other reasons, he "likes my new body" - booty or not!!! my butt and pancakes look alike !!!! thats ok, if that is my worst problem i'm dealing with - i'm happy all the below problems are gone post WLS diabetes/insulin/meds high blood pressure c-pap energy is wonderful what else is gone? my low self-esteem i "gained" confidence and found happiness what a wonderful world !!!! kathy

Just Corey that OP is a budinski!!! (msp) get this person "out of your head" you did all the tests the dr required. insurance approved you!!! if it makes you feel better, call insurance again mention the diet situation/losing weight pre-surgery maybe they can send you and official letter, that might ease your mind all docs are different per my dr. i did not have to lose weight prior to surgery some docs do require you to lose 5% of your weight - helps reduce your liver - which helps doc with the procedure my doc told me not to gain weight, but not necessary to lose weight congrats on being approved you are ready to start your new healthier, happier longer life good luck kathy

does too much MoM make you hungry?
ProudGrammy replied to avanti's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
avanti not medical person here - so i can't/shouldn't/won't tell you what to do, i can just advise you about seeing a PHP If you don't have a regular doc - get one - for general life "situations" (cold et al) in my "opinion" taking too much MOM can't be good theres a time period amount of days you can take MOM - sounds like you've surpassed that??? good for you on losing 68.5 lbs!!!! hope you get help with your situation soon, and you'll feel better good luck kathy -

ProudGrammy replied to MariaL1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bunny et al i've always worn my hair short my hair is very thin I only lost a teeny, teeny bit of hair since my hair is so thin anyways - it was hard to tell if i had lost some hair my hairdresser acknowledged that i lost that teeny bit over a time period i always see the posts about people losing hair, luckily i didn't lose any hair like OP said - losing weight/losing hair - ends justify the means 15 years ago i went through chemo same thing - lost all my hair but i became healthy the ends justify the means take care kathy -
