a maintenance victory - do I have a chance at doing this for the long haul?
ProudGrammy replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
CowgirlJane you betch your bippy i thought when many/most people said they were scared - they were talking about the WLS it hit me as i was approaching my DOS - i wasn't afraid of the surgery, recovery (been there, done that) i said OMG am i gonna be able to keep up the hard work for the rest of my life with drinking and eating et al to maintain my weight oh no - i can't/won't ever gain this weight AGAIN i thought i was the only one to think like that what a surprise that most of us have that thought/fear the good subject of regain comes up alot - cuz none of want to think that can happen!!! - but its important to talk about like many others - i feel the need to weigh daily - i need to see that my weight is staying the same i think most/all peoples weight fluctuates a couple of lbs here or there i need to immediately know any change in weight so i can nip it!!! been at goal these past 7 months - so that is not that long - not the year plus that i'm anxiously waiting for not to mention all the future years i/we WILL continue to survive!!! getting back to you CWJ getting the "once over" from someone who hasn't seen you lately - how cool is that need/want that continued motivation speach from others.............. i don't know that many people from my "heavier days" (except my large extended family) so i don't get many compliments  like you CWJ and probably/maybe others, I see a therapist too she is helpful - we talk about my concerns, situations, temptations - fears et al when i go shopping - i frequently look in ie Kohls mirrors - i smile and say OMG thats really me!!!! in other words you/me/we can/must be our best friend and encourage ourselves giving ourselves the once over too!!! with life/my weight..... i do the best i can - thats all i can do at the end of the day me/myself/and I- stand alone with my situations - and must stand tall continued good luck to all our success!!! "maintenance victory - do I have a chance at doing this for the long haul?" YES kathy -

Scared to "eat" anything more than broth or water...
ProudGrammy replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
marfa7 hi there - i recognize you!! got rid of that darn lapband and now you are entering sleeveland!!! always room for another pretty face!!! "try" not to be terrified!!! easier said than done if you feel better only drinking at room temp, thats ok!!!! i've heard others write similar things, easier to "down" liquids at room temp if cold,( popsicles msp ) or anything bothers you - don't do it silly head go by your comfort continue to drink as much Water as you can, but so early PO many people have troubles/concerns as far as your "potty problem" - give it a few days metamucil hopefully will help any time you/anyone has a medical issue - its always best to call the doc (thats what he's there for) listening to advice from the board is good - but IMO if you are concerned about anything - call the doc (even if you think its a silly issue/question) most people feel better daily - gotta give it time hopefully you'll start to feel better sooner than later remember (as you could forget) you just had major surgery!!!! you survived those problems you had w/the lapband the sleeve should be a piece of CAKE hope you and your problems improve soon good luck kathy -

How long did it take you to lose 100 lbs?
ProudGrammy replied to MK1986's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How long did it take you to lose 100 lbs? MK1986 the common thing all sleevers "share" is that we are all different if someone has more weight to lose - the weight initially usually comes off quicker same way if you don't have that much to lose, it "might" take you longer to get to your goal in my case i wanted to lose 100 lbs in about 9 months i had lost about 85 lbs it took me 3 months to lose the last 15 lbs - but i did it!!!! don't look too far ahead take one day at a time enjoy each day, even thought you will have the common stalls you will continue to lose your weight but..........never compare your weight loss to others you are on your way to a healthier, happier, longer life good luck kathy "God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It" -
kmed21 never did a scrapbood but....... you can do anything your "big" heart desires the skys the limit you could keep track of your approval letter ( that you posted on line earlier ) pictures of yourself through the months aka before and after you could print off good suggestions/posts from the board on food, carb et al that you see from the VSG board important dates - like your 1 month, 3 month , 6 month et al surgiversary you might write a post on the board signifying any of your many future successes then print and put in the scrapbook whatever your pretty self wants after all, its your life maybe also start a blog recording all your experiences good or bad your successes (NSV's) good luck kathy
-
kmed21 ahhhhhhh girlfriend getting your approval letter your on the official road to a healthier, happier, longer life in sleeveland may you be as happy for the rest of your life - as you are this second!! good luck with WLS speedy recovery kathy

Jessica vents are perfectly acceptable - we all/most of us do them to themselves or to others on the board i don't "think" you are complaining about the weight loss - 22 lbs is great - being at a stall is totally normal after reading so many posts, you know stalls are a part of your new life there are some/many people that are unable to drink at your early stage - and later too they have problems good for you on being so successful with getting all your Water in plus more counting/keeping track of your calories, water, Protein et al good for you i "think" your main issue is about feeling hungry, mabye grazing a bit, nothing you eat bothers your sleeve???? when you are on liquids, and maybe soft too - some/many don't get that full feeling!! once you start gradually on solids most/many/all feel more full at an early point -and their tummy yells "stop" stop!! as far as eating 4 oz of cheese??? i "think" thats too much at your early stage famous saying here............. "just because you can, doesn't mean you should!!!!" btw - good or bad news - as you progress with your solids - your tummy may/probably will object to certain foods big example: many people have trouble with eating eggs and bread many/all of us understand your frustration!!!! congrats on losing 22 lbs!! thats terrific stall will break easier said then done, but try not to get discouraged I can see it in your lovely eyes, and smiling face - that you will continue to be strong and very successful good luck kathy

Sa WooHoo enjoy this next month of anticipation you'll have many valid feelings (most of us do) excitement, joy - but a little nervous too get ready for the ride of your life towards health, happiness and living a longer life good luck kathy

greenivy age is usually an important factor, the condition you were in pre-WLS - and how much weight you have to lose i was 57 when i had my WLS i had alot of excess skin while losing weight i was pleasantly surprised that my skin "tightened" up a lot, so i don't have as much excess skin it was really bad between my legs, and rear end now its soooooo much better don't know how to say this properly, so excuse my words............. i never had "rolls" around my tummy et al so lose skin was not bad around tummy good luck next month speedy recovery kathy

Going out to eat after the Sleeve
ProudGrammy replied to css95's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
css95 congrats on being sleeved next month as many other sleevers i used to go out ALOT with DH/friends "they" say we are supposed to says lots of money - since we don't go out to eat much of course many/most of us spend that extra money on clothes back to your question............ i didn't go out to eat for a few about 2 months PO didn't want to "suffer" being around all that food as time passed - i started going out i have a very little - and will take the rest home for another meal/or two works for me good luck with WLS speedy recovery kathy -
karen my vice are Protein bars sure they are good for you full of protein but..........way too many carbs and i eat them like they were candy bars others also mention that eating Protein Bars is an addiction like have heroin i have way too many so i stopped buying them that actually is a big NSV for me there i said it!!!! ahhhhh i feel so much better now hands out of the cookie jar!! good luck i can see you will do much better in your future good luck kathy
-
karen well............whats done is done can't chanage the past you just had surgery??? few weeks out??? are you at the point where you are allowed some type of solids??? if you shouldn't be eating any solids please stop now no offense intended if you are allowed solids - please stop now you just had major surgery tummy needs time to rest and recuperate i know you will try not to do this again, right i can see you are determined to lose your extra weight sounds like you only had a "teeny bit" but, knock it off say with me "I won't do this again" "i won't do this again" eventually you will be able to have chips et al if you REALLY want to - but remember everything is in moderation having paid $12,000.00 for WLS - hopefully that will give you motivation to stay on program good luck bud kathy

jody walking is a great exercise - if your knee can do it now - great as time passes you will build your stamina up - you will probably be able to walk further gradually try and do other things ie the exercise bike - everything slowly at first work yourself to a pace that works for you any type of exercise is good for example - lifting hand up to mouth, and then putting hand down good luck with surgery speedy recovery kathy

1 step forward & TEN back!
ProudGrammy replied to NeverBeTheSameAgain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NeverBeTheSameAgain i "think" losing 10 lbs in a month is good (average) - so you are on track w/8 1/2 lbs gone i have heard also that if you are slightly "bigger" the weight comes off quicker and easier not necessarily true but remember - we're all different we all lose weight in a different time period never, never, ever compare your weight loss with someone else I'm sure you are doing everything right eating vvvvery slowly getting in all your Water, not drinking during meals waiting 45-60 minutes after you eat before you drink again chewing into small "shreds" of pieces as long as you are following all the rules - its almost impossible not to lose weight you are on such a small caloric intake maybe still on puree'??? being sad takes more energy try and smile (easier said than done) i can see in your lovely face you will succeed good luck kathy "God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It!!" -
As if I'm not fat enough....
ProudGrammy replied to hopeliveshere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hopeliveshere hi there as you said, "heavy people" have a tendency to have fatty livers many/most/all surgeons will have patient on a pre-op diet to help reduce that fatty area the liquid diet will help you lose lbs some docs say you must lose 5% of your weight before WLS ie 5% of 200 lbs - you would be required to lose 10 lbs some docs don't require a pre-op diet (mine didn't) just tell you to make sure not to gain any weight try not to stress over this this is just one the many new rules you will have to follow while you are on the road to health, happiness and a longer life in SLEEVELAND good luck with WLS speedy recovery kathy -

Scared to Succeed
ProudGrammy replied to laughingheels's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
laughingheels WARNING WARNING -this reply is an example that i don't know how to make a short response to a post first off , walking might be considered an "activity" by you doc ...... but it definitely is a good excercise that many, many people do!!! i understand about being self-conscious going to the gym - maybe thinking everyone is looking at you many people/me had that fear but, really others are busy doing their workout and NOT staring at you!!!! not totally knowing how to do/adjust weights, machines i get it you might/do feel uncomfortable its not a bad idea to practice at home with a couple of DVD's, weights, stretching bands you put on the door being self-conscious is just another problem many of us, since we're overweight slowly start at the gym doing simple things you don't even have to stay long - just go for a 1/2 hour to familiarize yourself with the gymn - get more comfortable if you'd rather not go to the gym at all, park your car further away from stores et al use stairs DVD's - videos, weights et al at home these are just a couple of common suggestions/options to help you exercise is/can be important many, many, many/most people exercise but some people don't exercise much - (don't tell anyone that i said this to you ) you will/should lose the weight - but exercising is good for all but..........if you are being held back by not wanting to exercise don't let that be a factor of "possibly" failing with the sleeve eat and drink properly don't be afraid of success maybe in your case thats easier said than done just look at your weight loss for all the health benefits you will achieve becoming thinner will be and added bonus - and hopefully you should/will come out of your shell - and continue to be the wonderful person you are now just in better physical condition/and appearance congrats on losing 40 lbs take care good luck kathy -
Linkinchic its these "little" NSV's that are great you lost 12 lbs pre-op?? 20 more in the past month!!! my math says you've lost 32 lbs all together you are doing terrific!!! keep up the good job/work - while your weight goes down you are enbarking on a great new healthier, happier, longer life!!! keep up the great job/work continued luck and happiness kathy congrats

Biggest NSV for me so far
ProudGrammy replied to notmeanymore's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Bunny great NSV many times over the years, i didn't want to be recognized or noticed now - we want people to take note of our new 'hot appearence' when people don't immediately recognize the "new" you, thats ok too! when they finally realize who you are, make sure you have smelling salt around if they faint in shock congrats girlfriend on eventually being recognized keep up the good job/work kathy
