Ghrelin part of stomach gone?
ProudGrammy replied to catnapper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been on my own. catnapper you lost 24 lb in over 18 months??? whats done in the past is past the lack of grehlin for the first few months+ does usually help people not be hungry not for everyone though i'm sorry you were given the impression that having grehlin gone, possibly losing your desire to eat would "fix" your problem thats not gonna happen as you found out you must start over i'm sorry you have been doing this on your own - without help, assistance go back to the basics that i'm not sure you ever started with there are important "rules" "we" sleevers are aware of and need to follow - always for the rest of our lives to remain successful you must too!!!! you must stop drinking 15-30 minutes before you eat never drink with your meals don't eat for 45-60 minutes after you eat drink at least 64 oz of Water a day chew each bite thorougly many many times after one bite, put your utensil down and wait before you start to eat again these above issues are important also eat Protein first, dense protein like chicken will really fill you up, then have some veggies since you've been eating all along - you must drastically change your lifestyle you must cut your portion back to 1/3 of a cup of food a meal maybe 2 Snacks also I'm not a medical person - just giving advice comments that i/many/most of us have followed successfully i can't and won't tell you how many calories to eat but people starting over don't usually eat more than 600-800 calories i believe it will increase within time you can/should keep track of your calorie intake on My Fitness Plan that way you will know how much you've eaten, and to hopefully not overeat exercising is always wonderful too wanting to lose weight like i know you do, you must drastically change your habits like we all did when we started the sleeve we started out by having liquids for about a week then full liquids pureeds soft foods slowly graduating to solids smalllll portions ask your questions - since you are basically a newbie we are ALL here to help and support you you need to be strong!!!!! easier said than done - but i call it "won't" power i won't eat!!!! good luck i wish you had this info before (sounds like you didn't) but its never, ever too late please come back and ask your questions, daily since you haven't had any real instructions to follow hope this didn't sound like a lecture - not my intent, just trying to help kathy best of luck -

Did you have counseling after surgery?
ProudGrammy replied to Zoumommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Zoumommy when I started seeing a therapist about 5 years ago i felt a little weird/ashamed i mentioned those feelings to my therapist and she said with a smile.... 1/2 the world sees a therapist..........the other 1/2 SHOULD!!!!! ever since that i didn't feel self-conscious about it!!!! being overweight was frequently in our conversations it was helpful to me talking about many different things going on with my life now at 2+ years post op, my wonderful "lady" has moved to another state for now i haven't seeked a different therapist............. of course i feel i should seek out help after talking to all you guys but i think they (therapists) can/are very helpful especially post op (even if its only for awhile ) understand your nervousness but "let lose" talk about surgery, and other issues that go along with it (other stuff too) good luck kathy -
Just joined Bariatric Pal Kblood Let me be the first to yell............. Welcome, welcome, welcome always room for one more smiling face i can see that you are a smart cookie making the wise decision to be sleeved glad your insurance finally "smartend" up to accept sleeve surgery hope you do get the good word sooner than later that you've been accepted my fingers and toes are all crossed for you everyone is really nice here except (you know who you are ) the final word answer to certain "serious" questions/medical advice should always be from your doc or NUT (nutritionalist) ask your many questions here on the board about pre-op - and following surgery situations too!!!! we love hearing those great new questions from newbies like you especially about eating 4 slices of pizza private joke that you will hear about as you become further along with your surgery good luck take care kathy

I want to eat everything!
ProudGrammy replied to karinbuck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
karinbuck unfortunately its normal for many (me ) to go on food funerals eating a bunch of stuff that you love in large quantities figuring you'll never be able to have some pizza for example at some point - you will be able to eat those favorites again but.............in very, very small limited portions as far as you drinking soda now............ knock it off most NUT's will say no to soda due to the carbonation old habits do die hard but you are aware you MUST stop eating too much of anything, and eating the wrong types of food good for you on making 50% of your choices good now i know you can master the rest of your eating too just gotta work hard (easier said than done) sorry, don't have any "tricks of the trade" to give you try to work with the following important rules for the next week before surgery stop drinking 15-30 minutes before you eat never, ever drink with your meals do not drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat drink at least 64 oz. of water/liquids a day chew your food thorougly to pieces put your utensil down between bites for a couple of minutes after surgery you will be on clear liquids/protein shakes (yeach ) then maybe a week later full liquids then pureed' then soft foods then slowly achieving solid foods your NUT (nutritionalist will give you more specific details) i can see you are a smart cookie - and you will do well post op with your eating you wisely gave it up 5 years ago - don't go backwards, please you will be measuring your food post op plan on keeping track of what you eat many people use MFP (my fitness plan) on the computer good luck with pre-op diet hmmmm, re-reading my response - i see i said alot you didn't ask about my mouth "runneth" over sometimes March 20th is right around the corner good luck with that speedy recovery kathy -
do i really deserve to be this happy??? I sure do!!!! Life is great!!!!!

lady WooHoo on becoming one of the latest and greatest new members of "onederland" never, ever, never compare your weight loss/time period to anyone elses in sleeveland people have been shot for less the expression on the board is.............. "the one thing we have in common is that we're all different" the "average"/good amount of weight loss in a month (per Nielson's poll) is 10lbs dropping 29 lbs in 6 weeks in NOT slow terrific, terrific trust me!!!!! would i lie to you its great to see that you are losing inches by the way your clothes feel/fit but....you might want to measure yourself today, and again in 2-3 weeks etc keep records of those inches all over these #s are especially nice to see when you might not have lost any weight in a while/stalled - but your inches are dropping you are doing great keep up the good work for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life kathy congrats
-

Am I doing something wrong
ProudGrammy replied to dlfjr1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
difjar hey dude or dudette your starting weight was 330 now you weigh 248 lbs??? down 82 lbs in 6 months??? you are doing terrific!!!!! "they" say an average weight loss of 10 lbs per month is good so............you are above average, in fact you are aces keep up the good work kathy congrat -
MMurray26 "The One Thing We Have in Common, is that we're all different!!!!" There is no "norm" on how people feel post op some people feel great and have returned to work within a few days others are tired, feel a little weak for a few days - maybe a week or two you "should"/will gradually gain your strength back don't overdue anything if you need a nap in the middle of the day......go for it who deserves it more?? you just had major surgery you are the important one for now - take care of yourself if you have kids, tell them to go run around the block for a week speedy recovery kathy

Mixed Feelings On The Newfound Attention
ProudGrammy replied to MsVictorious1020's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
McVictorious i also love those frequent nice words, but.............. when i am told how "great" i look, and its repeated a couple of times i always think to myself "so i'm the new and improved kathy???" before i was the "old and awful"?? no kidding i feel my self-esteem/confidence now is terrific - i feel great but when i hear some comments like the above, instead of feeling great like i should............. i can't help feel self-conscious kathy -
excessive belching
ProudGrammy replied to justforme2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
justforme yes many/most/all people get some sort of "sign" like your belching first time it happened to me - my daughter called from GA (I live in NY) she said "mom was that you?) kidding but, my DH could always hear me in the other room and we both laughed good for you on stopping when you get a "signal" - feeling satisfied and not "pushing" it continued good luck keep up the good job speedy recovery kathy congrats -
Amy surgery in 4 days???? its perfectly normal to be dealing with different emotions post op........ you just had major surgery - take it slow!!!!! if you have gas, walk and walk some more in the hospitaal sip Water sllllowly at home, rest as much as you can if you have kids, tell them to go run around the block for one week going to stand up in a wedding a few days post op some people feel fine in a few days, even go back to work hopefully you will be feeling ok drink only liquids no champagne though docs usually tell you to wait "at least" a few weeks - or maybe up to 6 months before alcohol is allowed the one thing we have in common is that we're/docs-NUTS are all different always listen to YOUR doc/NUT good luck speedy recovery kathy
