@JenWith so......................you want cigs and ice cream???? GET OVER IT You know better than that from what you said - you don't have a choice but staying where you are i don't know what your job is??? i know employment, job market is terrible but............ look for another job my "hero" Dr. Phil says something like "if you don't have a job, your job is looking and getting a new job" i'm sure that must be hard, impossible?? whatever but hubby is successful here - you can't move easier said than done, but you gotta move forward don't revert to old habits with wanting 2 things that could kill you (ice cream & smoking) why would you go back to those things you are successfully working on your weight loss you stopped smoking pre-op both above are wonderful and show your strength now, look down that pretend ledge do you really want to go overboard??? imagine what a mess you would make falling to the sidewalk all that blood and gush/yeach your poor hubby will work for hours cleaning your mess ok, that all being said you know i love you only shouting at you "softly" can you hear me? throw the thoughts of ice cream & cigs out the window concentrate on your weight loss 30 lbs DOWN. DOWN and dirty good luck bud kathy

@@VGB sorry about the pic situation - feeling sad depressed not good glad you are having surgery next month you are on the road to health and happiness having surgery will help/improve/get rid of entirely certain health issues ie high blood pressure, diabetes i'm sure you realize that WLS is not a magic pill you with the sleeve and the sleeve will work with/for you the sleeve is here to "assist you" in losing your weight just cuz i like to see myself write/talk!!! i'm gonna remind you of a few of those VERY important rules you must follow for the rest of your life drink 64 oz of Water a day stop drinking about 30 minutes before you eat never drink while you are eating after eating don't drink for 45-60 minutes chew your food very thoroughly into little pieces eat very slowly measure your food keeping track of all the food you eat is very helpful use something like MFP (my fitness pal) it helps you track your intake small portions eat Protein first carb intake low these are just a few things you need to know and do i'm sure your surgeon/NUT (nutritionist ) can advice you further ask all your questions here and note the good responses, but at the end of the day ALWAYS only listen to your surgeon or nutritionist (or me ) follow their rules/"suggestions" i can see you are a smart cookie so you probably knew all the above, oh well in the next month, why not try and do some of the above rules water especially can be a "tough" one practice not drinking while you eat wait up to an hour after you eat before you drink drink 64 oz or more of water practicing/preparing yourself for surgery is a good thing keep coming back to the boards you'll learn a lot of info hear good questions and answers explore the boards use the search button in top right hand corner don't be afraid to ask your questions we don't bite (usually ) good luck bud kathy

@@VGB my case is "similar but different " like many of us, i always hid from the camera i didn't have any pictures of the "HUGE" me somehow i found an old picture of myself for my before pic i never saved any of my old clothes that got bigger i i got smaller so i had nothing to compare my new self - to the awful overweight person of the past so.............after i reached goal, down 105 lbs i went to kohl's where i always bought my elastic waisted 2X plus size jeans i put them on in the fitting room i stared at myself for a long time just kept staring for 10 minutes, 15, seemed like forever. i just stared, didn't cry - just stared in disbelief shock i finally took them off and spent $24.95 or whatever to have those jeans for posterity once again i just sat in the car now i did start to cry because i realized what i looked like to others snapped out of it, drove home and promptly hung up the jeans in the back of my closet they will always stay there as my past i know how great i feel, and look too its just sad to "see" how i used to look can't go back - whats done is done i am enjoying, loving each and every day my health and happiness go hand in hand life is wonderful kathy

Curious -- could you have done it without Weight Loss Surgery?
ProudGrammy replied to Vikingsfan8178's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Vikingsfan8178 hmmmm i think you've answered your own question looks like your main issue is being a little scared/nervous these emotions are soooo common you want to believe you can lose this weight on your own i'm sure you can, we all have - over and over and over and............. as all above "smart cookies" said its the maintaining of the weight loss that sooooo hard/impossible my doc removed 80-85% of my "big" tummy why would you, me, or anyone miss it??? that big stomach of mine was able to hold sooooo many goodies, pizzza, ice cream etc etc. quick recap concerning the above 40 posts and more in the future most/all of us have successfully lost "the" weight its maintaining the weight loss that is soooooo hard/impossible one of the main complaints we have is we regret not having surgery earlier don't come to a hasty decision think, research, read this board "we" can't tell you what to do just giving you good advice i will admit to being biased i had the sleeve 3 years ago reached -105 lbs at goal as the one year mark was approaching these past two years and counting, i have/and will continue at goal good for you knowing that having surgery is not a miracle pill you have plenty of rules to follow for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life truth is all the rules you will be required to follow are rules that "normal" people should follow too whatever you decide good luck to you happy new year kathy -

A Fresh Start for the New Year

food/eating will be lifetime, continuous resolution - following the rules and maintaining i will/need to get more Water in still sometimes have different water issues to deal with then there are "silly" resolutions that aren't really silly to me ie i put my glasses down here there and everywhere - then can't find them sob sob i now have been putting them in glass case and leaving in certain spot on desk promise to empty clean dishwasher, and load dirty dishes by the time i go to bed will try (really hard) to read more other silly odds and ends - but they add up those little NSV's make me happy (its the little things LOL) happy new year to you, me and everyone may we all find health and happiness in this new year kathy -

I haven't done anything right
ProudGrammy replied to ELI.p.m's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ELI.p.m its been over one week since you wrote how have things been going??? were you able to start the year on the right foot?? not the left foot, the right foot I hope so i'm no shrink, but IMO your obese relatives are not jealous of you they are envious (difference) as you lose weight you are a success then there they sit, still heavy and all of a sudden you look and feel great, healthy et al and again "there they sit" maybe jealous and envious are interchangeable quick side note - parents use to be "greeters" at our church Andrew and Judith one day they wore each others name tag in error with a laugh i pointed it out that moms name is andy and dad is judith!!! mom said "thats ok" we're both the same interchangeable!!! (my word) in-laws are definitely trying to sabotage you i honestly don't think they realize how cruel and heartless they are being people like them, just don't "get it" (hope its ok to say about you in-laws) they are wrong/mean/etc etc you and hubby can make your point again about "not the easy way out" stuff about you need to eat properly its hard with all that yummy food around but i think you must eat at a different time (OP suggested that) they shouldn't have to accommodate you but it sounds like they will never listen to you/and will continue to sabotage you and be rude it must be extremely hard living in your situation because of your tragedy with your burning house your in- laws are generously letting you two live in their home in other words i think you should tread lightly i know it is hard to hold your tongue (years ago my daughter was in same situation with in-laws gotta say - in normal life - you will find "friends" et al that also might try to "hurt" you with their opinions/ comments you are saving your pennies and hopefully sooner than later you'll be out of there you gotta stay strong (easier said than done) push, push, push the water and Protein don't overeat stay away from the goodies think about your future and your new life that you WILL have you are on the road to a healthier, happier, longer life who deserves it more i have confidence in you that you can/will be successful make this a wonderful new year good luck my friend kathy ps - i wrote you an earlier post everything i said was true but i think i was harsh (i'm not used to that about me ) sorry -
