@@muncheechee i agree with @@naturegirl (and her doc) that it is advisable, helpful to have surgery a few days/weeks apart from better half one can help the other during their different periods of recovery you could still "get rid of the kids" for a while might/could be easier to have peace and quiet while you are recovering mom is nice and volunteered having the sleeve one, two weeks apart etc.you will still be able to help, support the other you are on the road to a healthier, happier, longer life great present for each of you wonderful gift to your children You alllll deserve the best good luck to both of you speedy, uneventful recovery kathy

@ what a bummer that surgery had to postponed do to insufficient weight loss other pre-ops need to realize if the doc says you must weigh X amount - you must just one of the many rules you MUST follow forever!!! that is how you will be successful!!! following all the rules everyone will be a winner back to you @sib2u2 good luck with your liquids you are starting your new healthier, happier, longer life good luck my friend speedy recovery kathy april 22 - may 26

ProudGrammy replied to yarnismyantidrug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@yarnismyantidrug welcome, welcome and welcome you have officially tested the waters with your great first post!!!! insurance company has given the green light officially?? never look a gift horse in the mouth hmmmm, hubby skeptical - but SUPPORTIVE one out of two isn't bad as time goes on, he hopefully will see how great you are doing becoming more and more supportive/helpful wonderful to have support from friends your friends didn't/don't think you are THAT heavy??? that's great !!!! they see your wonderful qualities, and don't see anything but the nice person you are butttttt - whichever one of them is willing have them carry your "excess" baggage for a week have them "walk a mile in YOUR shoes" see how they like it insurance reasons, afraid you will loose too much weight???? i have heard this concern from others talk to your PCP/surgeon about this IMO it is crazy that someone would tell you to loose weight, but not tooo much that situation might mess up your approval docs are ALL different one doc might tell you to loose 10% of your weight 5% of your weight DON"T gain any weight (that's what mine said) you probably will be seeing your NUT (nutritionist )shortly after you see doc he/she will give you all the proper directions/rules you will be following pre and post op she'll give you a special pre-op drinking/eating rules examples of post op order clear liquids, full liquids, mush (love that word LOL ) purees', soft, solid you "might" want to ask her if you could/should practice certain water rules ie drinking 64 oz liquid daily never eat with your meals (people have been shot for less ) don't drink for about 30 minutes before you eat do not drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat I think many/most docs say no to cola, carbonation you can work on that IF you are a smoker doc will tell you to KNOCK IT OFF some doc's will do a urine test to make sure you are "clean" learn how to eat plenty of protein watch the carbs, sugar, fat etc amount /portions of food you'll be eating for "most" people many medical issues improve or disappear shortly after surgery for example your CPAP diabetes, high blood pressure, pain from knees you'll get a lot of great info from this board you can find books to read "The Big Book on Bariatric Surgery" this is the book i have, its for people after surgery there is another great book by @@Alex Brecher concerning pre-op "what to know about............ written by our "fearless leader" @@Alex Brecher you order online btw if you mention my name when you order, i get Quest Protein Bars for life!!!! if you don't mention my name i get protein shakes for life check out U-Tube you'll see some docs/patients talk about the journey to success with WLS pictures of before/during and after surgery - those are always great their experience pre-op, immediately PO - etc everyone on these boards are very nice helpful, SUPPORTIVE except............... ask your questions go to the search area in the top area of this board you'll see others have similar comments/questions read other questions, but you post away too we are all here to support you you'll get great advice, info, experience from others butttttttt, at the end of the day ONLY listen to your NUT/surgeon (or me of course) LOL good luck with gastric bypass kathy -

ProudGrammy replied to Smye's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@Smye i don't get it either as a "youngun" i was never aware of what/how much i ate i don't think i was conscious that i might have been starting a trend toward eating too much but never fear, my mom was around she started "mentioning" my weight when i was about 14 i wasn't TOO HEAVY, but i needed to loose about 20 lbs it would have been great if i had nipped the weight problem in the bud but it did not happen not from lack of trying as time went by i continued to gain weight here and there i married an "ok" guy when i was 19 years OLD had a wonderful daughter 2 years later his "contribution" to our daughter took him about 5 seconds took me 9 months!!!! 4 years into marriage my now "ex-husband" actually went to my parents "commenting" on his "displeasure" of my weight 8 years after i got married "more" of me got divorced at age 27!!! but i now had gotten rid of about 180 lbs due to divorce!!! got even more depressed food never argued with me 5 year old daughter and i moved in with my parents til i could get my feet on the ground (get a job and save some money) in a couple of years my parents suggested i go to a dating service so self-conscious i was afraid but.... parents REALLY wanted me out of the house but they care for me and trying to help me they paid for me joining a dating service i was afraid but i met my wonderful husband one of the things we had in common we were both over weight we went out to eat allll the time, loved it tom would say sometimes and laugh "i want some popcorn, let's go to the movies" surprise - I continued to gain heaviest weight 235 lbs (I am 5'3) after yo yoing through the years enough was enough i now had health "issues" high blood pressure, diabetes, wore CPAP enough was enough went to dr. proceeded with all the hoops of insurance to have the sleeve hubby was so helpful and supportive pre-op and post-op even took a week off from work to help me out!! turned out it wasn't necessary, but it was great!!! my new life started 12/15/11 (DOS) it took me almost 58 years before i started my journey but i did it!! the rest is sleeve history struggles here and there, still sometimes one year almost to the day after WLS i lost 105 lbs reaching my goal weight of 130 i am maintaining for the past 2.5+ years fluctuate here and there, but life is good i no longer have high blood pressure, diabetes, no more CPAP a HUGE NSV for me happened at about 6 months after WLS i had lost 60 lbs we found out the hard way i was taking too much medicine for my epilepsy (since i weighed less) all is good now - only need 1/2 my dosage - most wonderful thing that happened to me life continues to be great healthy and happy as i've mentioned before "I' am cute as a button!!" I "mentioned" a couple of times to hubby a few months after my goad how it would be great idea if he would loose 100+ lbs i realized very quickly, i was talking like my mother never mentioned it again i would love it if he did loose weight buttttt through thick and "thin" life is good next year my 39 year YOUNG daughter will Celebrate her 20 years of marriage !!! she has given us the 3 cutest grand-kids in the world (present company excluded) but, she had to move out of state 4 years ago, hubbies job her leaving was "ok" but she had the nerve to take our 3 grand-kids with her Ethan (7), Andrew (11), Morgan (14) LOL next year on our 25th wedding anniversary we are cruising to Alaska this is my story, and i'm sticking to it to the few that were brave enough to read this in its entirety you are a better person than I am i think i dozed off a couple of times while i was writing this "short" story i write as much as i talk Oh No!!!! this has been a lot about personal stuff therapeutic for me thanx for listening @@Smye, congrats on loosing 101 lbs you are now in the century club keep up the good work i know you will good luck what was your question again?? kathy -

WILL THIS BE MY SURGEON?
ProudGrammy replied to LousPeachy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
WILL THIS BE MY SURGEON? @@LousPeachy i always "assumed" that the surgeon i met with was the surgeon that performed my sleeve. why wouldn' he/she be??? but..... i've read a couple of posts from people who were surprised/not happy about the fact that a different dr really performed the surgery (initial doc was there too) i never thought to ask my doc if he performed the actual surgery 3.5+ years PO - i don't care who did the surgery whoever did the surgery did a wonderful job now i'm "perfect" and "cute as a button" the hospital i went to was/is a "teaching" hospital there were "probably" students observing the WLS,, maybe participating too if you are concerned...... ask your doc if he will be performing your sleeve will it be him, or maybe someone else in his firm? good luck bud kathy -
