Just A Reminder
No one can tell from your body weight, age and sex what your resting metabolism is. You have to get the test done where you wake up early in the AM and go breath in a machine for an hour. You can't drive there either. You have to be in a resting state. RMR can vary drastically. The internet told me my RMR was 2300 calories per day at rest, but when I had the test done it was 1500 a day at rest. Which was 30% less than what it should be at my height and weight. At my year anniversary I will get my RMR taken and true body fat percentage taken (in a water tank). Once you realize your RMR then you can adjust all the nutrition labels which are based on a 2000 calorie diet. Which I feel for most women is way too high. Then you add in light activity and more strenuous activity to find out where you would need to maintain. most of the sites where they tell you..."if you eat this you will weigh this" take RMR into consideration, but I am not sure if there has ever been a recent RMR study on obese people....I think I will look this up. Because all internet calculators are not even close to a true number. It is probably based on an average, but metabolisms are soooooo different.

VSG Failure
I had great restriction the first six months, but I just realized that I can eat ALOT of mostly everything except for dense protein. People are like snack on some nuts...Nuts have a lot of calories and they are a slider food for me. Cheese, peanut butter, nuts and even protien bars - slider food. I can totally see myself in the future either not losing anything else or gaining some of the weight back...for me it is that easy. I bought someone chicken breasts, and if I am hungry that will be my snack. If I am at my calorie limit for the day...I eat a cucumber (i can eat a whole one). It helped me last night when I was wanting to keep snacking. I am scared for myself, but at the same time...I love chicken and fish so I just have to make sure these are always around. I will have chips here and there, and I used to keep them in the house, but on this shopping trip I bought salt and vinegar for the house because I know I will not eat them. They can't be in the house anymore. I do have two things which are good...my sleeve hates fried food and pasta...which were my big comfort foods. My big problem is also i like the full feeling...it is almost as if i have to be full at all times. I find when I am out and about...food not important...but late at night...watching tv...i want to be full. that is why I bought cucumbers...it worked last night. i can also not drink anything with calories now. I can really throw back a drink...so i bought tons of drinks and water to take to the office so if I want something with flavor...it is there.

Ok I Think I Figured It Out!
I just weighed in yesterday. Lost only 4 pounds in a month. I did have a little ice cream here and there, but I feel like I can almost eat normally. Not 3 burgers and two fries of course...but i did figure something out...which i am making some changes starting today...i was really eating a lot of soups. I still will eat them, but the soup...even with meat...is almost a slider food for me. I eat a cup of chicken chilli and am still hungry. I was eating cheese in the AM which is also basically a slider food for me. So I decided to get out some fish and grill it. NOT a slider food. I ate 3 oz and maybe was hungry two hours later. I have learned, for me, that I need to make sure most, if not all of my meals have to be low cal dense protein. I had such great restriction that I could only eat a handful of chips or a couple bites of ice cream, but now no no no no no...these are not foods I can eat on a regular basis as they just slide right on through. I went to McDonald's, and i had a grilled chicken sandwich on a regular bun. That was at around 2pm. I got hungry around 8pm and had some more chicken. So i know they say protien first, but I was sort of not doing this or eating like a lean cuisine which really doesn't have enough dense protien. so after just an hour I was hungry again. I wanted to be able to do things easy (microwave) but I am learning...yeah I gotta bake some chicken. I just like to tell you all this just in case anyone is wondering or feeling the same thing. I will start working out on monday so I am really hoping to pull a good number (biggest loser style) this week! I also know that I am hungrier than I have ever been so I really need to watch it! anybody have some helpful hints or can share your experience please do so. i also saw someone say if you are taller you might have a longer stomach...is this true? I only have 42 pounds to go. I really need some tips!

Self-pay: Is It Worth It?
After everything I paid 19,000. Care Credit gave me an 18 months interest free loan for $15,900. As of today I owe 8,000 and plan to have it paid off by June. I am writing the whole thing off of my taxes this year.

Watching Other People Overeat Grosses Me Out. What Is With That?!
It doesn't upset me at all. I do look at portion sizes and think it is outrageous what restaurants serve. I almost think it is criminal. My boyfriend can chow down. I probably miss it more than anything. Feeling full is not the same feeling anymore even when I can't eat another bite. I really miss that feeling. I have been watching fear factor and when they eat really gross things I get really sick!!

My Stall - I Can't Believe I Am Going To Post About A Stall!
I am so sorry for posting about a stall. I did however look up posts about stalls and really couldn't find much on my situation which may not really be a stall, but rather an increase in calories. I think I was just feeling tired. I was losing pretty well without exercizing, but middle of December I was just so tired. I sort of thought to myself...I NEED TO EAT...I can't keep eating 500 calories a day! So I ate more...the easiest thing was ice cream. I wanted calories without feeling stuffed. I probably still never went over 1200 calories in a day, but that was a big jump in consumption for me. I have only lost 2 pounds and have 7 days left until my monthly weigh in. It is ok that I lost two, but I just wish I could have made it to 190 before this happened. Then I am also fearful that my goal of 160 will be impossible to maintain if by eating 1200 calories a day I only lost 2 pounds. I am going to start working out next week. I have been very sick the past week so it got postponed. I guess we will have to see what happens once I start working out a four to five times a week. The increase in calories made me feel SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better and it seemed like my hair loss slowed. I really would love to stick around 1200, but I won't be able to lose the weight at that calorie count. So weird. I think I need a break from the scale. Next Friday I will weigh for my monthly, but after that I will wait another month to weigh myself. I will commit to working out. I really want to get to 160! I will try to stick to 800 to 1000 calories for the next month. If I lose a nice number like 10 to 15 I will bump it up to 1200 for the following month. Looking back on the last six months I wish I would have worked out, but I was so exhausted. I will not let the next six months go by without working out!

Does anyone ever feel like we took the "easy way" out?
This is where I laugh all the time. I could have died or ended up with some serious complications. Other than that, for me, this was absolutely the easy way out and thankfully this way existed. I mean why would you want to do it the hard way when there is an easier way. Losing weight is a full time job for us fatties and losing weight is not the kind of job I want. I am certain that in the next 5 months I will have to put some effort into losing the remaining weight until goal, but anything that will get me to where I need to be easier and faster...I will take it. I struggled long enough with the weight gain and losses - I was over it! So I paid for a scary, but excellent tool which makes it easier for me to lose weight. I don't really see this surgery as hard, but if anyone says to me...why did you take the easy way out...I would say to them...why wouldn't I? Struggling is overrated!

Incision Site Pain
My pain lasted 5 to 6 weeks. Some people seemed to have no pain... I couldn't get out of bed without feeling like my stomach was being pulled out of me. I can see what a tummy tuck is going to feel like. I won't be able to walk for a month! It was intense pain for 5 weeks with every movement.

Question For Ladies With Pcos Who Got Pregnant After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
These are really great stories. They doctor's always said I had PCOS, but I always had my period. I got pregnant right before my surgery and had to delay the surgery, but lost it at 5 weeks. I had the surgery right after! So I don't know what is going to happen, but I will wait for a year (June) to attempt to get pregnant again. The miscarriage lasted 27 days for me. I did it naturally. Please keep posting your updates!

296 To 204 - Last Pic In The 2's!
296 to 204. This will be my last pic in the 200's! Only 5 more pounds away until 199! I should get there by January 13th! Where will I stop no one knows, but I will do another pic in June for my one year surgiversary! I want to stop at 160, but would be happy anywhere under 200! I have not even started to work out yet! That is coming in January too!

Question #2 - Vitamin Levels
Great it says: NSAIDS: contraindicated LIFELONG due to risk bleed in relatively ischemic pouch and INACCESSIBLE remnant stomach I HAVE TO TAKE ADVIL during my period! It is the only thing that gets rid of the most horrible cramps!!!!
-
Question #4 - Fatigue
I take my vitamins, but with the whole don't take calcium and iron at the same time I just said screw them both. I know, not good. I will take iron for a couple of weeks and forgo the calcium since I eat a lot of cheese I will see if that helps. I want a nap like everyday!

My Question #1 - Clothes...what To Do!
I think I will hit the Target and Old Navy Clearance rack this weekend. I wish they had Weight Loss Surgery Clothing Swaps! That would be fun!
-
Question #3 - Hair Loss
how can you tell it is growing back?

Question #4 - Fatigue
While I see a lot of people have so much energy I sort of feel the same as I did pre sleeve. I actually feel even more tired. I get more bursts of energy than before, but most of the time I am really fatigued. I am in month 7 and still probably eating 700 to 1000 calories a day. It is the winter so that of course will make me more tired than normal, but I get enough sleep and just can't seem to perk up in the AM. I don't drink coffee or take in any caffine. I am wondering if anyone else has felt this way and maybe what their doctor said if you got it checked out. Will do a little research, but I supposed I really need my blood work taken to point out any problems. I really am not taking the Iron like a should and don't get much iron from food. But I am not taking in much of anything so what could it be

Question #3 - Hair Loss
Currently in month 7 since surgery. I started losing my hair around month 4. How long will I continue to lose? It is still coming out fairly fast. I had to dye my hair in month 5 and in that process ALOT came out, but my hair really needs some coloring again. I am still not eating very much, and I really don't have any money or patience to take supplements. I just want to know when it will stop from your experience.

Question #2 - Vitamin Levels
I probably won't go back to see the Doctor who did my surgery. I don't have a primary care physician. I am going to make an appoinment with one today or tomorrow. Can the primary care doctor have my vitamin levels checked? What is the process? I remember the doctor who did my surgery wrote a prescription for the blood work, but then didn't tell me where to go and get it done so I just didn't do it. I am sort of at a loss of what to do.

My Question #1 - Clothes...what To Do!
I have lost probably the bulk of the weight, but it seems every month I am losing a size or 1/2 size (which still makes for saggy pants). I absolutely can not afford to keep buying. I have 3 pants and maybe 2 dresses and shirts that fit me. I went through my closet again this weekend and it is practically bare. I am not a shopper, and I don't really like to shop, but for these next six months I am going to have to buy some very cheap things to get me through to my surgiversary in June. WHERE DO I SHOP? WHAT DO I DO! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Low Calorie Frozen Meals
These meals are my lifeline. I eat one for dinner almost every night. The salt helps me retain the fluids I do drink as I am still not drinking enough daily.
