There is a saying that goes around here for the beginning days, it's "never trust a fart" It apparently happens to a lot of people... It's not something, I think, that last long term though. Hang in there, you just had major surgery and it takes time to recover

    I am 6 weeks out.
I find my lack of interest in food a new kind of freedom.
    I cannot eat everything.
I do not want to eat everything.
I still cook for. My wife and friends.
A few bites and I am done.
    The weight is falling off!

Umm.. I was never told not to drink caffeine so I had my caffeinated coffee as soon as I got home. I'm from Seattle so caffeinated coffee is on the same level as air for us.

And I'm so BORED. Can't seem to find any pleasure in anything. That'll be because I'm missing my yummies. Happened to me when I gave up wine and also when I gave up Oxynorm after I got hooked post knee replacement surgery. And getting off the Oxynorm was the hardest thing I have ever been through. So this time I know it will get better. (Gee, I sound like a total addict, but I'm really quite normal... )

So we decided to walk in a mall tonight. We head to the food court to get dinner and I have to go to the bathroom. My husband is going to wait for me.
I come back in four minutes and he says, "I'm really sorry, but I ate without you" and shows me four toothpicks of free food they gave him as he strolled by the various stalls there. Yup, four pieces of chicken and the man is too full for dinner. I know people thought we were crazy when we both burst out laughing.
We went to get me some chicken from a thai place there and it took a while for them to understand we didn't want rice or noodles just chicken. Then we made them put half the chicken back because we would never have finished it. And then we didn't even want a drink! We were no fun, I tell you and dinner was $4.24. For both of us.
You can relate, can't you? hasn't life changed?

graphix1 got a reaction from JewelJ in Why Is Their A Liquid Pre Op Diet? My Doc Has Not Talked About It Yet?
It's to shrink the liver. The liver lies almost directly on top of the stomach. It's easier for the surgeon to do his job when he doesn't have to hassle with an enlarged liver. It could also mean the difference between 5 small incisions and 1 large vertical incision.

I knew it wouldn't be easy, but damn...I'm hungry. LOL. Does it get better?
It's easier at work when I'm distracted, but I'm spending a lot more energy trying to distract myself at home. Luckily, I made a list of things to do when I start feeling miserable or having a pity party. :-)

My surgery is at 6:45 AM. Last day of my 14 day pre-op all liquid diet. I made it!!! Didn't cheat once and I went cold turkey on Diet Coke after 30 years. Bags are packed and I'm ready for my surgery! Very excited!

The pre-op diet isn't to lose weight, per se. It's to shrink your liver so it will be out of the surgeon's way when they are performing the surgery.

Losing weight is just a bonus

I have wanted to jog/run for year now. One of my goals after surgery is to run in a marathon maybe a year from surgery. Today was my 6 week post op mark and I walked for about an hour and I JOGGED some of it! My kids were so shocked to see mommy running! I am amazed that I was jogging, me! I also realized today that I lost 20% of my body weight already and I am so excited to keep losing more! Dreams do come true!

I am starting this rant because I have a problem with new banders who JUST got the band within few weeks giving advise that they don't really know about!
I got my band on 9/13/13. I've lost 30 pounds - I am in a position to maybe help someone who is about to have the surgery and maybe speak about my experience afterwards. But I have no business giving advise beyond that. I am a little angry with several people that have been banded after me giving advise on things that they know nothing about! Blogging on things and just in general speaking on advise that should be reserved for veteran banders. If I don't know about something, I don't say anything! I try to be encouraging to others and sympathetic as a human to human, but I just don't think this is right!
Just because you have been banded doesn't mean you know everything!!!! And everyone who knows me on here - knows this is out of the norm for me, but it makes me angry! People are vulnerable and take what others say to heart! I'm not saying that newbies can't blog or speak to others, I'm just saying if you don't know about something just move on - someone else will respond that does know something! I'm not looking for backlash, just want people to be aware - that's all!

It hit me this morning that it doesn't matter how many people you have "supporting" you, at the end of the day, you travel this journey just like you came into this world...alone. No one really, truly understands what you go through each and everyday living a body that's holding you hostage. Quite honestly, this is the only place where I can really vent and speak my true mind. Pardon me while I have this moment.
Pity, party of one, your table is ready:(
