  1. Hi Jenifer:

Yes, I was sleeved by Dr. Hoehn, almost 1 year ago. I could not recommend him, and the program at KC Bariatric, more. He is a superior surgeon, and the program is comprehensive and extremely professional. I looked at MANY options prior to choosing this one, and it was far superior to all of the others. I'd be happy to answer any questions; just ask!

  2. Hey, Deb! I'm doing great! And so are you! You look amazing!!

    The big 1-0-0

Congratulations! I, too, reached my 100 pounds lost mark yesterday after being stuck at 98 for a LONG time. It's an amazing feeling, and it has definitely strengthened my resolve to keep up with my program. I'm just looking forward to getting on a scale, and not seeing the number 2 on it for the first time since high school... Best of luck for continued success. Enjoy those new clothes!

    Daily Carbohydrate Intake

Hi everyone: I'm 7 months post-op, and I'm down 95 pounds. I've started re-introducing some carbs into my diet; whole grains mostly, but the occassional Cheez-it or Goldfish cracker also makes it into the rotation. I'm tracking my food and exercise on Livestrong.com, and their nutritional profile suggests that I can have almost 300 grams of carbs a day and still lose a pound a week. I think that sounds crazy. What are your daily carb intake limits? I'm just trying to figure out a happy medium. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  11. Hi there! I am about 7 months post-op sleeve, and I just want you to know I felt the same way going the process. However, I think divine intervention came your way in the shape of going to the Kansas City Bariatric program. Dr. Stan Hoehn did my surgery, and he is the best of the best. THe program is fantastic, and they are professional and fantastic. If you have any questions about the process I went through, don't hesitate to ask. Keep your chin up!
  12. Hi Deb! You look fantastic!!!! How are things going?

    Is dumping permanent?

I learned from another post-op patient that constant vomiting may be a sign of stricture. What's your doc say?

    Coffee and Alcohol?

I had my first cocktail on Monday; a whiskey sour. Like you Tiff, I felt that flushed feeling almost immediately but then I was fine about 30 minutes later. I just had the one drink, and I nursed it and drank water along with it but for the most part it was pretty similiar to drinking pre-op
  17. Hey All: Has anybody tried laser hair removal post-op? I've been dealing with some chin growth for years because of my wacky, weight induced hormone fluxuations and would love to get rid of it now that I'm finally on a plan that is going to keep the weight off. Just wondering if any of you who have reached goal have tried it and what the results have been? Thanks!
  18. Same as chilo1; walking right away and then six weeks until anything more intensive. I'm already up to 2+ miles each day; today is my six week surgiversary so I'm going to start doing elliptical and some light weight training.

    What and how much???

Hi there! Don't be nervous; this is a really great thing you're doing. I was sleeved a month ago yesterday. Right now, I'm still in the mushy phase. For breakfast I will have a scrambled egg or a 1/3 cup of greek yogurt or a Protein shake. For lunch 2 ounces of deli turkey or chicken, or 1/4 cup of tuna salad. dinner is usually a piece of grilled fish or shrimp, usually 3-4 medium sized ones. I ate a lot of string cheese at first but laid off of that recently because of constipation. Chicken salad is another favorite, made with canned chicken. Cottage cheese is good, too. Good luck!!

    Constipation

Ya'll have no idea how much I needed to see this thread today. It had been over a week, and I felt awful this morning, so bad I stayed home from work. I tried the miralax, stoof softeners, MoM, an enema and finally suppositories did the trick. Now, i just want to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm going to try the benfiber and prunes to see if that helps. thanks to all of you!!

    July 2010's NEW losers!

Hi All: First, congratulations to all of you on your successes, both on the scale and off. Isn't it amazing to finally find something that works??? I was sleeved on July 21st, so Wednesday will be 4 weeks. To date, 45 pounds down. Wow!

    Death

It sounds as if the person who passed away had several co-morbidities that probably would have resulted in death no matter what the surgery was. What you can do is to do exactly what your surgeon and his team tell you. If you're a smoker, quit now. Start exercising now. Start drinking water, and stop drinking soda and coffee. Start following a healthy, balanced diet. All of these things will put you at optimum health for the surgery. Most importantly, try to stop thinking about death and think about the life you're going to have after the surgery; healthy, happy and on your way to your goals.
  23. I agree with Tiffykins. Jillian's tactics are barbaric, and her "knowledge" of the emotional aspects of weight gain/loss are pop psychology, at best. She is just the latest in a long line of pseudo-saviors that have figured out a way to make a lot of money offering hope to those that they considered hopeless. And, while we're on the subject of The Biggest Loser, do you all really think that NBC has kept this show on the air out of the goodness of their corporate hearts to inspire and help the millions of people who watch it every week? No, they keep it on the air because advertisers pay for the freakshow effect; the majority of people who watch The Biggest Loser aren't watching it to get fitness or diet tips. Like most of you have said, who among us has 6-8 hours a day to exercise? Most of the people who watch TBL watch it to see the fat girl fall of the treadmill, or see the fat guy cry because he is so hungry. They watch it to make themselves feel better; "At least I'm not as bad as those freaks." It's humiliating and degrading to all people, no matter their size. Okay, my rant is over...for now.
  24. Hey girl:

How did the EGD go? I gotta tell you, it was the easiest of all of the hoops. I never slept so good in my life!

Make sure you keep on top of Dr. Hoehn's office. Sometimes, they can get behind on making follow up calls. I'm sure they are used to being "pestered" by people wanting a date. Good luck!

  25. I just started mushy foods yesterday, and went to the grocery store to stock up on them. I noticed Hormel Turkey Meatloaf in the Ready to Eat Refridgerated section, and was wondering if anyone had tried it during the later mushy stage? It's got 190 calories, 5 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbs and 21 grams of protein, and it looks pretty soft. I didn't buy it, but I'm thinking it might be an easy protein source. Any thoughts?
