  1. Congratulations! I, too, reached my 100 pounds lost mark yesterday after being stuck at 98 for a LONG time. It's an amazing feeling, and it has definitely strengthened my resolve to keep up with my program.

I'm just looking forward to getting on a scale, and not seeing the number 2 on it for the first time since high school...

Best of luck for continued success. Enjoy those new clothes!

  2. I do an 8 ounce Protein shake; I need the fuel to make it through the workout.

I am starting my workout again tomorrow morning. It is every morning at 5 am. I know it sounds ridiculous but I love it and I wouldnt have it any other way. There are absolutely no excuses at that time of the day. Anyways I am not sure what to eat before hand.

Prior to surgery I would have cranberry juice and a granola bar. I am on soft foods now and need some ideas on what to eat before I go. My plan is to get up at 4 take my medicine and have a little Water or no sugar added juice and then start eating something at 440 while i am driving to workout.

    Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

    Brittany

  3. Hi everyone:

I'm 7 months post-op, and I'm down 95 pounds. I've started re-introducing some carbs into my diet; whole grains mostly, but the occassional Cheez-it or Goldfish cracker also makes it into the rotation.

I'm tracking my food and exercise on Livestrong.com, and their nutritional profile suggests that I can have almost 300 grams of carbs a day and still lose a pound a week. I think that sounds crazy. What are your daily carb intake limits? I'm just trying to figure out a happy medium.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  4. Hi there!

I am about 7 months post-op sleeve, and I just want you to know I felt the same way going the process. However, I think divine intervention came your way in the shape of going to the Kansas City Bariatric program. Dr. Stan Hoehn did my surgery, and he is the best of the best. THe program is fantastic, and they are professional and fantastic. If you have any questions about the process I went through, don't hesitate to ask.

    Keep your chin up!

    Hello all.

I finally made the decision and started the process.

2/14/11: Verified with Saint Luke's Center for Surgical Weight Loss that my insurance would cover their program

    2/15/11: Attended St. Luke's Seminar

2/23/11: Attended first pre-op Dr. appointment. Sandy explained that I would need a 1) sleep study, 2) appointment with their nutrionist and exercise specialist to begin a three month supervised diet/exercise program, 3) psych eval, 4) letter of medical clearance from my GP, and 5) copies of notes from any doctor I saw in 2009 and 2010 showing my current weight. I would also need to attend at least one support group meeting. My appointments for the psych eval and diet/exercise specialists were set. I briefly met Dr. Price.

2/24/11: I received a call from the St. Luke's sleep Lab to schedule my sleep study.

    2/27/11: Completed sleep study.

2/28/11: Received call from UHC. They explained that my policy does not cover Saint Luke's Center for Surgical Weight Loss . In addition, my policy requires a 6 month medically supervised diet.

You might imagine my reaction to this news. I was devestated and furious at St. Luke's for assuring me that my insurance would cover everything when they clearly had NO IDEA.

2/28/11: Reserved a spot in the upcoming seminar (3/7/11) at the only local program my insurance does cover, The Bariatric Center of Kansas City at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. All I can do now is wait to see what my earlier mistakes will cost me and try to move forward despite them.

  5. Hey All:

Has anybody tried laser hair removal post-op? I've been dealing with some chin growth for years because of my wacky, weight induced hormone fluxuations and would love to get rid of it now that I'm finally on a plan that is going to keep the weight off. Just wondering if any of you who have reached goal have tried it and what the results have been?

    Thanks!

  6. Hi there! Don't be nervous; this is a really great thing you're doing.

I was sleeved a month ago yesterday. Right now, I'm still in the mushy phase. For Breakfast I will have a scrambled egg or a 1/3 cup of greek yogurt or a Protein shake. For lunch 2 ounces of deli turkey or chicken, or 1/4 cup of tuna salad. dinner is usually a piece of grilled fish or shrimp, usually 3-4 medium sized ones. I ate a lot of string cheese at first but laid off of that recently because of Constipation. chicken salad is another favorite, made with canned chicken. Cottage cheese is good, too.

    Good luck!!

  7. Ya'll have no idea how much I needed to see this thread today. It had been over a week, and I felt awful this morning, so bad I stayed home from work. I tried the miralax, stoof softeners, MoM, an enema and finally suppositories did the trick. Now, i just want to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm going to try the benfiber and prunes to see if that helps. thanks to all of you!!

  8. It sounds as if the person who passed away had several co-morbidities that probably would have resulted in death no matter what the surgery was.

What you can do is to do exactly what your surgeon and his team tell you. If you're a smoker, quit now. Start exercising now. Start drinking Water, and stop drinking soda and coffee. Start following a healthy, balanced diet. All of these things will put you at optimum health for the surgery.

Most importantly, try to stop thinking about death and think about the life you're going to have after the surgery; healthy, happy and on your way to your goals.

  9. I agree with Tiffykins. Jillian's tactics are barbaric, and her "knowledge" of the emotional aspects of weight gain/loss are pop psychology, at best. She is just the latest in a long line of pseudo-saviors that have figured out a way to make a lot of money offering hope to those that they considered hopeless.

And, while we're on the subject of The Biggest Loser, do you all really think that NBC has kept this show on the air out of the goodness of their corporate hearts to inspire and help the millions of people who watch it every week? No, they keep it on the air because advertisers pay for the freakshow effect; the majority of people who watch The Biggest Loser aren't watching it to get fitness or diet tips. Like most of you have said, who among us has 6-8 hours a day to exercise? Most of the people who watch TBL watch it to see the fat girl fall of the treadmill, or see the fat guy cry because he is so hungry. They watch it to make themselves feel better; "At least I'm not as bad as those freaks." It's humiliating and degrading to all people, no matter their size.

Okay, my rant is over...for now. :)

  10. I just started mushy foods yesterday, and went to the grocery store to stock up on them. I noticed Hormel Turkey Meatloaf in the Ready to Eat Refridgerated section, and was wondering if anyone had tried it during the later mushy stage? It's got 190 calories, 5 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbs and 21 grams of Protein, and it looks pretty soft. I didn't buy it, but I'm thinking it might be an easy protein source. Any thoughts?

  11. I was sleeved on Wednesday, and I spent one night in the hospital. I'm having very similar symptoms; pain at the incision sites, gas, and pain when I try to cough or sip. There is no way I could possibly get 60 grams of Protein in at this point; I'm happy with half that. I figure that as the swelling goes down, I'll be able to get more in.

    Hang in there, ladies!!

  12. I'm on day 12 of the 14 day pre-op diet for Dr. Hoehn's patients. S.f jello/popsicles, broth, Water, crystal lite. One 8 oz s.f. yogurt a day, and Protein Shakes. The first couple of days were fine; then it got hard. Then, probably the ninth day, it got a little easier. Now, it's okay. I'm keeping very busy; it's amazing how much you can get done when you put your mind to it.

My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. As of today, I have lost 22 pounds.

Good luck to everyone! If it's not hard, it's probably not worth doing!

  13. My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, July 21st at Heartland Spine and Speciality Hospital with Dr. Stanley Hoehn. I'm on Day 8 of my pre-op liquid diet. As you can imagine, I am very anxious to get the show on the road!

I've been keeping a blog, just to give myself something to do an focus on instead of food. I've also found this is a really good way to keep all my friends, family and co-workers up to date on my progess now and after surgery. Banana Pouch

Good luck to all of you!!
