3 1/2 weeks in
Dr. Kurian is my doctor as well (scheduled for Oct 20). Was she as nice the day of as she is in her office? How long did you remain in recovery/hospital? Did you have a lot of post op gas/pain? Did Dr Kurian do the fill or an assistant? Sorry for all the questions, but I have heard great things and not so great things about surgery at NYU. I am super nervous.

having 2nd thoughts
While I can't give you any post op encourgement, I've been where you've been. After almost 8 months of getting through all the doctor's appointments, etc., and reading everything here, I wanted to back out. But like you, I decided getting my life back was more important than the couple months of discomfort and I scheduled my surgery date - for the second time (health issues delayed it the first time). There are a lot of people on here, pre and post op that will offer a lot of encouragement and support. Stick with it.

CPAP Machine
I had to delay my surgery because I was diagnosed with sleep apnea which was causing low blood oxygen. I have a machine now, but I am having some issues using it regularly. I am waiting for my pulmonalogist to give me the ok to go ahead for the surgery. And yes, you need to take it with you to the hospital.

MMM....Greek Food!
Cindy -When you're craving Greek food, why don't you try browning up some ground lamb, making some tsziaki and all the fixings? If you can eat lettace, you could even do it like a taco salad, but greek style.

surgeon not doing lapband now
Ask your insurance company if they can recommend a surgeon in your area.

Do you know what I really miss?
I know it is going to be one of the hardest things for me. I'm one of those people that actually prefers a cold bottle of water over soda anytime. I drink about 5 - 8 a day. When I'm thirsty I can chug a whole bottle without thinking. In fact i just did. I also feel like I have to drink with food. But if I can loose the weight you have lost, it is worth learning not to.

being put to sleep
Being put out is my huge fear as well. I'm very clausterphobic. The idea of the mask and all just scares the stuff outta me. I also heard about being strapped down and feel like I will panic at the wrong time and they won't get me completely out. Or I will wake before they remove the tube. It is all irrational, but scary none the less. But I keep telling myself i didn't go tthrough the last 10 months of prep to chicken out now.

Feeling lonely
Find another doctor. This is a lifelong committment between you, the lapband and the doctor. If they are treating you like that now, how is the surgery and the follow-up care going to be? I complain sometimes that my doctors are too involved and it is taking too long to get my surgery clearance. But I know I am forging a lifetime commitment between all of us.

Band Babies!
That is so exciting for you and your husband. But now I am worried. It seems to be a trend. I think I s/go back on birth control after I am banded. I'm a newlywed, but too old to want a baby.

new to site - umited healthcare options ppo
I have UHC. The only requirements was a 5 year history of your weight and using a Center of Excellence doctor. They can refer you to one. My surgeon had more requirements. UHC will assign you a case worker and eventually a case nurse. They are very helpful and can answer all your questions. Once I met all my surgeons requirements, it only took a few days for "the approval call".
