Switching to Dr Aceves - Help!

Dr. Aceves sleeved me July 13th. I had switched from Dr. Kelly. There was just something in my gut telling me to switch. I am so glad I did, The ride from the airport to the hospital was a whirlwind. You drive through these mountainy roads with HUGE boulders. You get to the hospital and start peeing in a cup and having blood drawn. That part freaked me out a bit, i still hadn't caught my breath from the ride LOL After that you meet the anethesiologist- he was absolutely wonderful. Spent about an hour explaining his role. He was so professional and soothing, I knew I was in the right place. Dr. Aceves is wonderful. He is very professional and kind. He immedidately made me feel safe and relaxed. The hospital is small but spotless. People are not joking when they say the clean non-stop. Those ladies must be exausted at the end of the night. All of us bariatric patients are in one wing. The nurses were awesome, if i asked for anything they were very responsive. Only had one language blip..I was trying to explain I wanted the air conditioner turned down, I was hot. My control was behind their nurses station. Finally I said caliente and fanned myself and she got it. Sergio wheeled me into surgery and asked how much Spanish I knew and I said only what I knew from Dora and Diego. He said well I am Diego and this is Dora (another lady nurse) and I was out. Next thing I was in my room. I don't even remember being in recovery LOL I was up walking an hour after I was in my room. I read on here sip sip sip walk walk walk and I did. I was up and down those halls. By the first night I was doing laps LOL I was determined to get that gas moving..and I actually only had 2 pains with it. After surgery Dr. Aceves and DR. Campos came by several times a day to check in on us. My partner had brought her x-box and they even sat and played with her. Dr. Aceves also allowed her to come into the surgery. She is a nurse and told me later that she was very impressed by his work and how sterile everything was. I felt very safe and cared for while i was there. He is wonderful and you will be in great hands. Cathi
  2. Hi, You have been so helpful on these boards, is it okay if I ask you a couple of specific questions? I graduated to mushies this week and I seem to be having difficulty tolerating it. Creamy Soups seem ok. In addition I have tried a little chicken all mushed up with a little gravy. I've been measuring it and eating 2 ounces. I have also tried scrambled eggs twice with a little cheese. Thats what I had tonight and I feel like I've eaten an entire chicken. It feels like it is all the way up in my throat. I didn't measure the egg, assuming 1 egg couldn't have been more then 2 ounces, maybe I was wrong. I've been eating 2 ounces of Soup or chicken at lunch and then 2 ounces of soup, egg or chicken for dinner. Usually for Breakfast I will eat 2 ounces of sf pudding, but i have to thin it out some. I worry I'm not eating enough, but I am never really hungry. I have read and re-read Dr. Aceves post op instructionsm maybe I should just go back to the soups. My second question is about those god awlful nexium mumps. I've been disolving them in soup and gagging them down. My friend is a pharmacist and said i need to disolve them under my tongue. Swallowing them makes them disolve in the stomach and not the lower intestine. There is just no way I can do the under the tongue. Do you think I should switch to something that can be swallowed whole or cut in half? Thank you in advance for any help or advice!! Cathi
  3. I cried when I left my two kids too. Its scary to go to another country for surgery!! Dr,Aceves sleeved me July 13th. Everyone there is so nice. Good luck ans keep us posted! Cathi

    Tylenol after surgery

Dr. Aceves gave me a big bottle of the liguid tylenol. The toradol gave me a headache. Cathi
  5. Because they are sublingual I understand you are suppose to dissolve them under your tongue, I can't stand the flavor, and have been disolving them in soup or something and taking them that way. My friend a pharmacist said if I do that then is disolving in my stomach and not getting to my small intestine where it is suppose to be. So am I not getting the right effect from them? I'd like to just swallow them whole. I still have 2 months worth and hate to waste them, but thining if I am not getting the benefit from them the way I am taking them maybe I should switch to something diffrent. Cathi

    Am I eating right?

I just started mushies this week and am not sure if I am doing it right. I have been measuring 2oz. besides creamy soups, I've mushed up some chicken with a little gravy, and had a scrambled egg on two different occassions with a few strands of cheese mixed in. Every time I eat I feel stuffed. Tonight i had the scrambled egg and i feel like it is all the way up my throat. Could I be eating to fast? By the time you chew a scrambled egg up there is almost nothing to it. Soup seems to do okay, but the other stuff not so much. Cathi
  7. Yes, he gives you post op instructions, incision care, vitamin imformation, diet etc. i will try and email it. Cathi

    Getting Started

Hi, Welcome, glad you came out of the shadows. I was sleeved by Dr. Aceves July 13th. So far everything has gone great! I read every post and you tube video I could find on him once I had made my decision. By the time I got to Mexico, I truly felt like I knew everyone on his team. He is a really kind and very professional surgeon. I have two little kids, 8 and 9. They were adopted at 3 and 4 and I have tons of anxiety and attachment issues. I was really scared to leave them behind and travel so far without them, and then had thoughts of OMG what if something happened to me. Plus I have a 5 month old grandson I was afraid would never know me. With that said, I thought- I thought I have extreme hypertension, was on 3 meds AND a patch- chances are thats going to kill me quicker then the drug cartel. So I put my faith in my God and took a leap. I am so glad glad I did. I have already lost 21 lbs and blood pressure has been great. The people pn this board were wonderfully supportive. I hope that will be your experience too. If you have any specific questions or need a live voice you are welcome to call me. (502) 802-5992. Cathi
  10. Actually I started feeling bad last night. I am not sure if the soup I ate maybe caused gas or what. But I am having a pain near the top of my stomach, like around the middle of my breast bone. Just sort of feels like a huge air bubble. I have a tiny incision there, but that seems fine. I also have like a 1 inch incision about 6 inches directly down (not the drain one) and it sort of feels like a knot is under that. Could it just be scar tissue? Anyone had anything similar? Cathi

    Feeling yucky today

I am 15 days out. I had my gall bladder removed and the pain isn't anything as severe as the pain of the gallstones. I sort of feel like it hurts to take a deep breath. I've been do my little breathing thing with the balls and have no trouble elavating them. Maybe its the dag gone heat! Cathi

    How Long?

PS I could have gone sooner but had to wait for passports! Those take 4-6 weeks. Cathi

    How Long?

I think I started reading the boards early June, started researching doctors, decided on Dr. Aceves and made the appointment and was sleeved July 13, 2011!! I did partically finance through the people Dr. Aceve's office recommended. I had been approved by another company but they had wanted me to over night papers to Mexico, then have them faxed back and that seemed to much trouble. Plus they had like a 400.00 extra fee to process them in Mexico. The loan company that Aceves used just required me to fill everything out and send to them. Nothing had to go to Mexico first. I think the company was med loan.com. Good luck! Cathi

    nude/semi-nude pics??

I was sleeved by Dr. Aceves two weeks ago today!!!! No one even mentioned pictures. But weird enough going home through San Diego Airport I was chosen to go through that x-ray machine. I just smiled big and thought i felt sorry for the viewer lol Cathi
  16. Am I home free? I had a tiny little bit in my left shoulder, and 3, yes 3 actual outward expressions of gas lol, if you know what I mean. I keep waiting for it to hit me. I will be two weeks out tomorrow, so am I in the safe zone? I will say from reading these boards the mantra sip sip sip, walk walk kept going through my head. I was up and down the hall 2 hours out of recovery. I am hoping that helped. Cathi

    Dr. Aceves Aug. 4-5?

You will be in good hands. I was just down there 2 weeks ago tomorrow. Every single positive thing past patients have said on these boards I found to be true. Dr. Aceves is very professional and caring. His entire team is awesome. I am so thankful I didn't give into other's fears and back-out. I have lost 18lbs already and feel really good. Cathi

    Border Crossing

Hi, I was just sleeved by Dr. Aceves 2 weeks ago tomorrow. Boarder is five minutes from the hospital and I felt absolutely safe crossing it. Are you going to Dr. Aceves and if so are you flying into San Diego? If so then Ernesto will be picking you up in a white van. He does this loop multiple times a week and is obviously very experienced. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was the drive from the airport to Mexicali. You drive through the desert and there are these HUGE boulders everywhere. It was a whirlwind of a trip. But we always felt perfectly safe. Good luck, Cathi
  19. How do I add my doc and surgery date to my profile. Thanks in advance for any help! Cathi
  20. I am having my first stall and I hate it!! My two week surgiversary is tomorrow. I dropped 18 pounds the first 10 days and now nothing : ( I hate it. But realistically I know it is out of my control. I like the idea of supporting each other. It is so frustrating, when my calorie count can't even be close to 700-800. If I am lucky it is around 300. I was concerned that maybe I was eating to many calories in my brocalli/cheese soup and I googled the deli's site where I buy it from and an entire cup was like 280 calories and I am only able to eat 2 ounces lol. So it has got to just be chemistry and my body catching up. Sure will be glad when it has. Cathi
  21. Hi, I just talked to your friend by phone! She sounds very nice, I love the accent. I too was so afraid all these people were fake on here initially. I hope some people respond to your post. Since I went to Dr. Aceves I couldn't really speak to how it might be for you guys. But I have ready many positive posts about him and his program. Good Luck, Cathi

    Kelly or Aceves?

I Had 3 too. The second one was I think on day 2. You drink some blue colored gatorade and check to make sure there is nothing blue in your drain. The biggie in on the 3rd day- you drink this barium stuff which tastes nasty (everything tasted gross to me, my taste buds were a mess) and have an x-ray. Don't move cause if you do, you have to drink it a second time! I shuddered when i took the first one and has to fo it over again : (. They give you the x-rays so you can see it. Cathi

    veggie soup puree

That sounds great! I am 13 days out and have been buying Soup from Panerra's I need to make something at home, I am sure fewer calories and a whole lot chea[er! Thank you for sharing, Cathi
  24. Hi, I was sleeved July 13, so I am 12 days out. The first 10 days I lost 18 1/2 lbs. It just fell off. Now since Saturday not only have I not lost any, I have gained a pound! How is that possible? I did graduate from clear to full liquids, but really the only change is I have a bowl of real Soup (like chicken soup from chick-fil-a) and eat that broth. I have read about stalls, is this what I am having? Really what more coud I do right? I can't really exercise yet, although I am walking. Do I just need to be patient? Cathi

    Stopped Losing?

Hi Ashley, Thank you so much for responding. How are you feeling now? Over-all I feel good. My biggest issue is I am not able to take pills yet without crushing them and I use to live on tylenol. So my body just aches. I do take liquid tylenol at night to help with restless legs. Other then that everything seems to be going well. Cathi
