    1st Fill...

Congratulations on your 25 lb weight loss! I had my first fill about six weeks ago. I followed doctor's directions to the letter. You will really want to do that. Even with following the rules, I started throwing up more. Not daily, but more. Reported it to the PA, and he said if it happened again, then I should call and go in. Bottom line: today he took out all fluid and put me on three meds. He wants to make sure that the area is not inflamed. Will put fluids back in band in two weeks if all is well. During that time, I am going to do my best to keep doing what I was doing (sans the throwing up).

    Newly Lap Banded

Newbie - one day out of surgery, and you have a new life ahead of you. Congratulations on your decision.
  4. My favorites are group exercises. Treadmills are not fun for me. I agree with everyone that has mentioned Zumba. Great fun, and burns LOTS of calories. I know how you fee about lack of time, since I have taken classes for masters and doctorate. BUT, you'll be surprised how much better you feel with exercise as part of your week also.

    Wouldn't be safe for you.

    What Are You Eating?

My doctor told me that if I didn't follow, the "new" stomach could stretch. Even if you can tolerate the food, it isn't doing you any favors. I agree with 911, PLEASE make healthier choices, even if it is KFC. We're all here for you - rooting for you to succeed.
  7. Graph your weight and then make an educated guess. Graph weight and days (or weeks if that is how often you weight). I'll bet you'll come pretty close
  8. I think I would start with protein drinks again and going to a support group - because there will be others that have either been through, or are going through what you are. I know you're very busy now, but you need to make a little time in there for you. You cared enough about yourself to be banded in the first place, care about yourself now. I'm rooting for you. Please keep us all posted, but please go to a support group.

    Day 8 Of Preop Surgery

Sounds like you're doing very well. And your legs will scream at you, but not for too long. Once you have your surgery, then start walking again so that the gas pains will dissipate more quickly. I had the surgery in June, and have done well with what I should/shouldn't do, but I had to throw away the bourbon balls I had made for Thanksgiving because I could NOT leave them alone

Finished The 8k Turkey Trot Today.

Congratulations, NYdad! My son, his wife, and her sister ran in the one in Raleigh. I should make that my goal for next year, even though I have never been a runner. How did you get motivated to run? I love other forms of exercised, but have never run.

    Nausea

Please talk to your doctor about this. It might be inner ear or BP and not the band, but it certainly needs to be resolved. Please call the doctor tomorrow.
  14. Hi, All. I am not a newbie at this point, but I can tell you that I AM a stomach sleeper, and slept on my stomach the night I had the surgery. No problem. I can feel my port, slightly, but it cannot be seen by others. My Internist wanted to feel it, because she had never felt one. (I have been with this doctor for over 30 years, so it didn't bother me a bit, and I had told her I was going to have the surgery - self pay). Both of you are going to be thrilled with your surgery. I do not think I was worried at all, because I wanted it so badly. It is easy to get accustomed to smaller meals, and I truly don't remember pain - other than gas pains - which did not last for many days. Walking helps. This time of year (except maybe for Black Friday) is great for walking. Best of luck, and keep us all posted on your surgery and your successes!

2.5 weeks out and no energy

Hope you're doing better by now. Are you taking your vitamins regularly? (I'll bet I sound like your mom with that question, but they really helped my energy level as did more exercise.

    Failed My Sleep Study!!!!

My doctor's office has a portable machine that you can take home with you; ask you doctor if they have one. My husband had to do a sleep study - due to apnea, and failed his first test miserably. Second one he was able to sleep much better. STILL has apnea, but the good news is, you can use a CPAP during surgery, and a while after surgery, you won't need it.
  17. I am so thrilled to see all of the positive thoughts about Thanksgiving. MOST of us survived. Those who didn't have learned what to do in the future (think sometime late December.....). We had a huge meal, I ate just little of those things that I thought would not be too bad for me. Probably ate too many root veggies - CARBS, but did not gain anything, so I feel pretty good about the whole experience. My family is so loving and supportive! I am truly blessed!
  18. Fantastic, Beverly. We are all waiting to hear how everything goes.

The pages of this chapter come down to their last.

Please post tomorrow if you're awake enough to. Remember to kiss your wife, too I am thilled that you are ready to start a new book. We all want to read it, Matt.
  22. Wow! It had to be frightening throwing up that much. I wonder why you had such a reaction? Did the doctor explain it? Sounds like you're back on track now, and have a new lease on everything. I've only had one fill - 1 cc. Keep us all posted on how things do this time.

    I refuse!!

I have had some of my things tailored so that I would wear them in the interim. That might help - and certainly less expensive than new clothes that you will be able to wear for only a few months. It is frustrating, though, I know. As I put things on that don't fit any longer - I put them in a pile to take to Goodwill. My "saddlebags" are finally going away because of lots of exercise, but they have always been a struggle. You're weight is doing great, though. I know you're thrilled, but the clothing thing is frustrating. All I can say is that at least you have a lot of company with other banders. We should open a clothing swap Good luck!
  24. Lisa. I am so happy for you. Although I was never scared, I can understand the trepidation. You are going to be so thrilled when you find yourself with more energy! It will be a journey, but we are all here, holding your hand when you want to move along, and supporting you when you need it. Edie
