My daughter( who is now living in Germany) also has been sleeved in january and she has lost 95 pounds to date and i hope i can say the same in the near future.......Im 230 pounds Bmi of 40 and hoping to get to 140 - 150.......

well, i hope i make lots of friends and get lots of advice when my time comes...lol....and maybe i can be of some help to those who need it......Im still learning a lot as each day goes by.....

    thanks for reading...

  2. Wow! Sounds like it was a good thing they caught that. Good luck and let us know when you get to have your sleeve surgery!

Thanks all for the inspiration, I ended up having emergency surgery last night for a 10mm kidney stone blocking my urinary tract and that's where the fever came from. I guess it was a blessing in disguise to find this now and not after sleeve surgery. Doc cancelled the surgery of course. In the hospital now recovering...

  3. Never is a long time. I hate to be told I can't have something. Honestly, you can have any of these things after you have been sleeved for awhile. The carbonation is difficult for my new tummy but I still occasionally enjoy a mixed drink with soda. I can't drink it very quickly and it goes straight to my head but it is nice on rare occasions and my tummy will tolerate it. Sugar can make me feel a little yucky and I have learned I don't care for sweet stuff as much as I used to. Still, I do have some from time to time. I have a cup or two of coffee in the morning and it does just fine. I don't have high blood pressure and so I don't worry about too much salt, either. All of that said, I think it is important to stay diligent about losing the weight, especially in the first year. It gets more and more difficult to lose the weight as your size goes down and if you start figuring out how to "eat around" your sleeve. Be careful not to do much snacking and use common sense when it comes to sugary and high calorie foods and you will do ok. :)

  4. Wow, poor thing! I feel for you and hope you get to go home to be with your kids soon. Get better and thank you for keeping us updated. I am less than a week out and it is good to hear your story because it makes me keep better tabs on my own body and what it is doing. I hope everything resolves quickly for you and you are home snuggling those babies very, very soon! ((hugs))

  5. I got sleeved on the 24th and I am starting to feel somewhat normal again, finally. That first couple of days was a little rough but I feel pretty good by now. Hang in there and you will start feeling better in a day or two. I still have the tummy rumbles and hear they will be around for awhile. Take care of yourself! Telisa

I'm still very tired & dopey feeling so if this makes no sense I apologize in advance. I was released last night. Doing well. Moving around better. How long before the "bubbly insides" go away? The thought of broth is turning my stomach too. When dp I feel kind of normal-ish again?

  6. It sounds like you have had a very difficult journey! I'm glad all that is over and now you (and your sleeve) can get on with your life. I will be getting mine in less than 3 weeks!

Welcome to the board, I look forward to hearing how your progress goes.

  7. My BMI is only 44 and I have been on optifit (medifast but without the one "real" meal) since Dec. 8th and my surgery is not until January 24th. I start liquids only in a few days.

While I think my surgeon is much more demanding than a lot of people on the board, I am grateful in a way. I have already lost about 25 lbs! I am now used to counting my Protein, calories, carbs, fat, Fiber, etc... I swear, I thought I would die the first couple of weeks of this diet. I have found the secret to be to NOT eat anything that is outside the plan. If you do you become completely ravenous again for a few days.

You can do it... I know because if I can then anybody can! lol!

Well my BMI is over 50, therefore I qualify for an unheard of FOUR WEEK pre-op diet.

Looks like I'm purchasing a lot more Slimfast shakes from Amazon, plus more Protein drinks!

I'm also starting a YouTube journal, will post a link once I get it up and running.

  8. Hi SunChik!

Welcome to the board! I haven't been sleeved just yet but I'm thinking you got very lucky! Congratulations!!!

Thank you everyone for the kind words and support.

Oopsseedaisy, I do not regret my daughters decision for 1 second. After all of the research that I have been able to do in the past couple of days, it seems as if destiny stepped in and gave me the best.

I look forward to becoming an active member of the sleeve community.

  9. I am so excited, my surgery date is February 4th! I even bought Isopure today to try the different flavors. The fruit Punch and Orange are fine, taste a bit like gatorade. I was really worried about it since I have heard that it was hard to drink. Hopefully I can get it down. Anyone else having surgery around this time, maybe we can help each other through the process. My surgery time is 3:30 pm on a Friday, so thinking I will be home by Monday I hope.

Congratulations on your date... I am right in front of you on January 24th. Good luck to you and I hope everything is smooth sailing for both of us!

  10. Hi Kassie:

It sounds like you have done some research and have found this website. The vertical sleeve is definitely a better option than the other weight loss surgeries seem to be. I am sure you will be able to explain that to your folks, show them the statistics, and hopefully they will see that it is actually a viable option for you. Sounds like you have come to the same conclusion as the rest of us getting the sleeve have come to... we need to do this for ourselves - for our health and so we can live better, fuller lives. Good luck to you on your journey!

  11. Hey Becca:

I haven't been sleeved yet but I would say just go ahead and stick to the liquids you can drink. It isn't likely you are missing a lot of nutrition by skipping the Jello or broth at this stage... that is my guess anyway :)

I have been living vicariously through your posts and am just a few weeks from getting my sleeve. Good luck and I hope everything goes as smoothly for you as possible as you are healing.

    Telisa

  12. Congratulations Becca! Sorry you were in so much pain at first but it sounds like you are doing so much better now. Keep us posted on how it is going. Those of us who haven't been sleeved yet are especially appreciative of hearing your story and how it works out for you! It will be our turn soon and we may need your help and advice then, too! :)

    Take care,

    Telisa

  13. It looks like we were sleeved on the same day! I am sitting at the hospital right now waiting for my doctor to get out of another surgery so he can sign the release papers. I have had some pain (mainly right after surgery). The main issue I am having today is that the drain is hurting like HELL! I haven't had gas pains because I have been walking a lot. Plus they have this little machine they make me breathe into that is suppossed to get rid of the gas. I am so restless!!! Probably because I am stuck in the hospital. I can't wait to go home! We will have to keep in touch! Great job on your weight loss so far- : )

Congratulations to you too Becca... I hope you get to go home asap!

  14. Hi.

I 'm Kelly and I am 39 years old. Today, Dec 29, 2010, is post op day 2 from my VSG with Dr Pennings in Post Falls, Id. I decided to have this surgery vs a RNY or band because I wanteed to keep "my plumbing" as natural as I could and I didn't want a foreign body inside of me for the next 40 years.

My OMG weight was 309 lbs. Before starting the 10% I had to loose before the surgery I was at 292. The day of my surgery I was 258.4. So why didn't I continue with the liquid pre-op diet and loose all my weight that way? Because it is an all liquid diet. I was having alot of what I call head hunger and was getting closer and closer to giving in to it. (oh I feel like eating a chesseburger, fries and a milkshake and not the Protein shakes I was suppose to be drinking or treating myself to food for losing weight!??)

My biggest issue today is that I have bloating and gas. So much that I can't even drink Water without belching. I just got back from the pharmacy with some Gas-X thin strips and I hope they help.

I also am extreemly restless. I am not sure if that is because of the gas or from the pain, stool softners or carafate I am taking. Anyone else have this problem??

Hi Kelly, my name is Telisa Swan and I am getting sleeved by Dr. Pennings in Post Falls, Idaho on 1/24/11! I have so many questions! If you don't mind I would like to friend you so I can follow your progress... Congratulations!

  15. Do you have the option of going to another doctor and/or therapist to get another opinion? That sounds ridiculous... of course we have what they would likely refer to as an "eating disorder!" Just the fact that you can recognize that about yourself and can be honest about it doesn't mean you should be penalized! Good luck... hope it works out for you.
