Oh Geesh... Got My Official Date...

Hey Super, How was your recovery for your hyster? Woh did your hyster and who is your wls surgeon? Do you think it really made a difference using the davinci? That is part of the reason my date got pushed. It's the first date both surgeons, the O.R. and the davinci are available. Hoping the davinci is worth the wait!! hahaha or weight, since the food funeral will now continue a few extra weeks.

Oh Geesh... Got My Official Date...

Plano for me too! Long drive from Granbury but my understanding is the davinci really helps with recovery time. You will have to let me know what to expect!! This has been an adventure for me since FEBRUARY!!!!

Advancing Post Op Diet Too Quickly?

My surgeon says for 6 weeks, if you can use a fork to eat it, then it's too thick. If you are gonna make alterations to what your doc prescribed, at least stay within another vsg surgeons guidelines. good luck!

    What R U Eating 11 Day Postop?

I am pre-op, start per-op diet Friday! WEll, if insurance does what it should.. Anyways, I switched surgeons a while back because I already know I hate protein shakes. I found a surgeon whose pre-op diet consists of low fat vegetarian for two weeks, which I can add unflavored protein to my daily soup and mashed cauliflower and oatmeal. After surgery, the first 3 days is clear liquids then anything pureed, so long as I can not eat it with a fork. SO whatever I want to put in the blender I can have as long as I can't use a fork. Gonna be making lots of flavorful healthy homemade soups then blend the heck out of them.

    The Monster Is Out!

ugh. I am not sleeved yet but am SERIOUSLY thinking I may need to change jobs. I teach preschool and sometimes rely on Dr. Pepper to keep me sane through the day. I don't want to literally bite a 4 year old kid's head off!

    Soo Embarrassing Taking Before Pictures

I think our close friends love us enough to not judge us. Your taking a big step to change what you see and let that be your focus. I have taken before pics for friends and if anything I felt sensitivity and compassion for them because I know how hard it is. Don't try to imagine what they were thinking. We beat ourselves up enough!!

    Frustrated At 8 Weeks Post-Op

Ok, as an upcoming sleever, I have a question. Will those of you who are in a stall or frustrated do some math for me and post it please? I would LOVe to see what your AVERAGE pounds per week lost is. I am working on my goals and my goal is to average 2 lbs per week, which is what is recommended to help prevent excessive loose skin. It's a healthy goal for any other form of weight loss, so it is what I plan on using. Just curious as to what your expectations are versus a healthy losing average. Thank you!!

    Cpap

wow. I didn't know anything about a pulmonary specialist having a say about anything! I know what you mean by the suffocating though. I wake up most mornings with mine off and don't remember a thing as to what happened. Will he gave you a chance to make adjustments? Try a different mask maybe? I find that swabbing the inside of my nose with sinus rinse on a qtip (sorry if this grosses anyone out) helps me to breathe better. What I don't understand is my surgeon said DO NOT USE YOUR CPAP RIGHT AFTER SURGERY because he doesn't like all that pressure blowing down into my gut. So i don't understand why your 70% compliance should even be an issue. Let us know what happens!

Ok, is this h-pylori a standard thing? I have not heard about it from my surgeon and it is not anywhere in my paperwork. Does anyone know???

    Submitted To Uhc Today

I have UMR, but they use UHC as their network. Anyways the coordinator from the surgeons office "called" it in yesterday and now has to submit all the paperwork. UMR said it would be at least 14 days. Still gonna call them every few days though!!!! Good luck to you!!!

    I Want To Cry... :(

I didn't read every post, but I am going to respond to those who say "this is your responsibility", I called my insurance FIVE different times and ASKED them SPECIFICALLY if I had to do a 6 month monitored diet. I was told no all FIVE times. I went through ALL of the insurance documents provided to me and the insurance website. The insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office could not get an answer from them either. SO after HOURS of "my responsibility", I called the HR dept at hubby's work and they sent over the specifics. And there it was. It should have not taken me literally 6 hours of research to get such a basic answer. I JUST finished my 6 month of weigh ins and my stuff was called in yesterday. I was in your shoes not to long ago. It will pass, and you can spend everyday on here learning like I did. Best of luck on your journey!

Week 5- So Depressing / Disgusting To Eat

My oncologist, who recommends the sleeve, who said "it will be the best medical decision of your life", who sees women who HAD cancer get the cancer REVERSED with the sleeve as part of treatment, he says don't be afraid to take anti-depressants. Your body is going through many changes, and these women who should be giddy with happiness because they no longer have cancer, come to his office depressed.. If I notice my moods are hitting a low, I will get them, , and take them, so nobody hates me later, and then when I am further along in my loss I will figure out what works better for coping (hopefully exercise). Just make sure you never stop taking them cold turkey. You need to be weaned off them under a physician's supervision. See you on the loser's bench soon!

6 Month Dietician Support Finally Over! Woohoo

My final diet visit was July 24. I faxed over all the notes from my diet visits to the surgeon on Wed the 25th. I have not heard from the surgeons office so I will try to call them Monday. I am trying not to be to anxious and am *expecting* a denial so I am not freaked out. If I am denied i know it will be because of something stupid and then I will just fix whatever it is. I have been TOO thorough to be wrong but my insurance can be j@ck@$$e$. I am also having a hysterectomy when I get sleeved so that should make it even more of an adventure. Hoping for August but we will see!

Five Years Post Op N Gaining Weight

My gynecological oncologist, who absolutely believes in the sleeve, told me to not be afraid of taking an anti-depressant if I needed it during my weight loss. "weight" increases our estrogen production and part of what you are dealing with *may* be hormone related. It is a vicious cycle we can get into. Excess weight=excess estrogen=hormonal imbalance=omg i just want to eat till i die. You have your sleeve as a tool, now get a tool to help your mind. Therapy or meds if you need them for awhile. I bet once you get those excess pounds back off your mind crud will clear up... And, YOU CAN DO IT! YOU ARE WORTH IT! YOU DESERVE THE BEST! Claim what is yours!
  19. Unjury unflavored or about time unflavored are both good. I add them to soups that are not to hot (practicing pre sleeve). As of right now I can not stand the taste of any artificial sweeteners. Well, about time cinna swirl was pretty good and it is flavored with stevia. My plan is to make healthy home made soups, puree them and add the unflavored protein.
  20. I just saw this deal from eversave. It is for Freedom Bras, I think they are similar to Genie bra's. Anyways, you get 3 for $20 and that includes shipping. I have some of the genie bras and I really like them so i will get some of these in the next size down. Here is how they size them: Sizing: Extra Small/Small: Fits 6-8 T Shirt Size Medium: Fits 10-12 T Shirt Size Large: Fits 14-16 T Shirt Size Extra Large: Fits 18-20 T Shirt Size and here is the link. http://eversave.com/share/ndQR Hope this helps!!!
  21. Well, the genie bra is really comfy if you ask me. Most cheap bras I have bought have yucky hooks that hurt. And I like that the sizing goes along with what your t-shirt size is.
  22. The Back Story In February of 2012 I was diagnosed with “complex endometrial hyperplasia with atypia”. Basically, pre-cancerous cells of the uterus. My gyno said at 40 it was a slim chance of my getting pregnant and I should have a hysterectomy. I asked him if my chances of getting prego after WLS would increase and he said that my egg condition would probably decrease even more and it would be a miracle if I got prego. At this time I had decided already to get the sleeve and was not sure what to do about the hyster. He said if I was not going to schedule the hyster very soon I should come back in 6 months and have another d&c to test my endo cells. In june I decided to meet with another bariatric surgeon, Dr. Cribbins in Dallas, for 2 reasons. His pre-op diet was NOT liquid only, and he did surgery with the davinci robot (less pain, faster recovery). I had the thought that maybe I could get both the WLS and the hyster at the same time, with one recovery and one bout with hair loss. He said that would not be a problem and referred me to a gynecological oncologist who he worked with before that sends his patients over for the sleeve. Today, July 11, I went and met with the gyno onco, Dr. Heffernan of Dallas, FULLY expecting to hear you need a hyster and we can do it at the same time as WLS. Well, he unexpectedly threw me a curve ball….. This is basically what Dr. H said: “Women who are obese produce an ongoing, UNOPPOSED stream of estrogen. This stream of estrogen over a long period of time changes our endometrial lining when it is not opposed by progesterone. “ So basically, some endo cancers are caused by obesity. He has had people with my same diagnosis, get RID of their abnormal endo cells and have no cancer or pre-cancerous cells! He has had women with endometrial CANCER, get cured of the cancer!!!!!!!!! What is the combination? Progesterone treatment (megace orally or mirena iud) and weight loss (recommends the sleeve)! Why weight loss? Because we lose that overabundance of estrogen created from being fat or from PCOS. He said that getting the sleeve is the best medical intervention life saving/changing thing I could do. I heard everything he said but did not process it until during my 1.5 hour drive home. I could possibly not need a hysterectomy and may not have to slam the door shut on having a child???? And, not develop cancer???? I thought my choices were, get hysterectomy, or get cancer. He gave me a 3 month scrip for megace and said it was possible by the time I had my hysterectomy my stuff could be all cleared up. Say what??? This morning when I woke up I was convinced I was going to be getting hysterectomy and sleeve in the same shot late august early sept. Now it looks like I will be getting a endo biopsy/d&c in a month, and if it is not WORSE then what I had in January, just getting the sleeve and maybe an IUD. And who knows, a year from now maybe I will be pregnant. In my 20 years of being Fatty McFatterson, I NEVER had heard that obesity was/or could be directly related to endometrial/cervical cancers. Now I am obligated to let many people know!! I REALLY hope this long (poorly written cuz it is late and my mind is racing and tired) post can help someone in their decision to change their health!!!!!! With renewed HOPE, Crystal

    Has Anyone Changed Surgeons ?

I changed. I went to my first consult In Feb. Started my 6 month supervised visit, found out about a surgeon who did a 2 week vegetarian diet rather then making me buy a certain brand of protein shakes, went to see him on June 7 and my last appointment for 6modiet is July 24. The coordinator was SHOCKED at how much I knew and all the paperwork I had ready for her. I have complete confidence in the new surgeon. Also, he will be using the davinci robot for my surgery and I am possibly having another surgeon do my hysterectomy in the same process (i have an appt with him wed to make my final decisions). Do you know what is making you feel uncomfortable?

Recovery: Will I Be Pushing It?

Not sure how big the festival is, but I would see about getting something that confirms you are recovering from surgery and see if you can get some special parking or something. I would be most concerned about getting dehydrated. Doing more and being in the heat (well, maybe not so bad in CO) may work against you hydration wise. And remember you can't lift or carry anything... Be safe!!!!
