  1. OH, and if you are taking any meds, make sure you know all the info, dosage, last time you took it... The pre op room was stressful. One million questions!!!!!!
  2. All i can say is this... I am 2 weeks out. I had a hysterectomy and the sleeve at the same time. Surgery on a Friday, released by noon on Sunday, walking around the grocery store on Monday, the texas state fair 8 days after surgery. Zero pain. I mean literally, ZERO PAIN. Just a little discomfort from the drain till they took it out Sunday. The only feeling with the incisions is the steri strips are at the point of causing some itching. I just need to make sure I don't lift for 6 weeks but I am not sure if that is because of the hysterectomy or the sleeve. I had/have no pain eating or drinking. My husband was scared to death and he is amazed at my recovery and so relieved. I can't say what will happen in your situation, but I can say mine has been amazing. I wish you the very best!!

    Dr David Kim Colleyville

Wow. Some of you are really bent out of shape because I made the decision to not buy a product I could not stand to drink. I felt it was in my best interest to choose a pre-op diet I felt I could adhere to. My liver was perfect and my surgery and recovery flawless and painless. I am not saying anything negative about Dr. Kim, I am sharing my opinion. I personally am on a budget. Why pay all that money for something I couldn't drink? NOt to mention that the office staff was very hard to get ahold of. It wasn't until JUne that I changed and it for many reasons it WAS the best decision for me. I hope you all make the best decisions for you and have the success and joy that i do even without BARIESSENTIALS....

I'm Gaining Weight 2 Weeks In?!?!

I was sleeved 2 days after you and am so jealous you are chewing!!!!! I am on mushies/pureeds for 5 weeks!!!!!!! I was actually looking to see if anybody eats soft scrambled eggs 2 weeks out. I would love 2 ozs of scrambled eggs... And I weigh myself throughout the day and can be a lb higher at night. But I am still less in the morning and ahead of my reality goal. I hate shakes so getting my protein in without carbs is nearly impossible for me. I figure that it is better to have a few more carbs if that is the only way i can stomach the protein powder. It will be a whole new world when I can eat solids... Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged!!!

Just to make it clear, when I went in February, I was told I HAD (not felt like I had to), but no other option (I asked) to buy either bari-essentials or i think opti-fast from his office for somewhere between $200-$250 (2 week supply). I was not given an option and that is why I changed surgeons. Maybe it has changed since then, but trust me, I did not misunderstand... I pray you all have as smooth of a surgery as I did and that you experience ZERO pain also. I believe Dr. Kim is a great surgeon. Best wishes to you all!
  6. Ok, so far, the first claim filed was from the hospital, 2 night stay and Davinci robotic surgery, 2 procedures.. Plano Presbyterian Hospital.... $67,386.81 I will update the amounts and discounts on this thread as they come through. It better go right! I should owe ZERO!!!!!!!!!!

    Whats That Tube?

I had one. They removed it before I left the hospital. I think it was the most discomfort of the whole surgery. I had to lay flat to relieve the pressure and yes, I winced when it came out. I felt so much better when it was out.

    I Have Stopped Losing!

How tall are you? we are about the same starting weight with the same goal. But I am under 2 weeks sleeved. Are you measuring? I bet you look great. I have read that sometimes upping your calories can help your body release weight. Don't give up!!

I started with Dr. Kim but couldn't get past being forced to buy certain shakes for pre-op. I heard about Dr. Cribbins (Plano Presby is where I had surgery) and his pre-op being fat free vegetarian. My experience with Dr. Cribbins and his staff has been AMAZING. He I had surgery Friday and he came to see me sat and sunday. He is very easy to talk to and I will say it again: NO PAIN WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!

    Shocked By Sleeve Experience!

I was sleeved on the 28th and had a hysterectomy at the same time. I can honestly say I have had zero pain, just a little discomfort. The drain was NOT comfy and I had a little stiffness. Now my incisions are itchy as the steri strips come off but that is it. I went to the fair yesterday and my friends say I look "bright". Now, let me tell you, having pizza in the house was freaking torture! So, i scraped some of the toppings into plain mash potatoes, added some water and pureed it. Added unflavored protein powder and got my fix. I don't like artificial sweeteners so if i have pudding I honestly just have regular. Oh, and freshly juiced PLUM juice is better then ANY Dr. Pepper i ever had. And I was an addict. I think us end of September people are pretty blessed!
  11. should I go to the e.r.? The one struggle I have had this week is getitng in my fluids. I have felt great until today, when I woke up with a full head headache. My urine is a bit concentrated and my skin is dry. I am wondering if I drink 32 ozs of powerade with electrolytes and 32 ozs of water today if that will be enough to rehydrate me, or do I need to go to the e.r. and get a fill up. Anyone been here????

"wls Is Not What God Intended..."

Great answer Pip!!!!! I had surgery last friday. They removed part of my stomach, and they removed my uterus because it was one degree from having cancer. If it was your uterus you were having removed because you had a very high chance if not already of having cancer, would she still stand on what she is saying? If not, then there is something else there. I am a Christian and a Christian sister I love actually said to me don't lose to much I don't want to be the chubby friend. I love her and I respect her honesty and I know to be sure to affirm her in how she looks. There are obviously some insecurities there or she would not have fake boobies (I am already planning my lift!! God did not intend for my boobs to look like tube socks.) I attribute my "no pain and amazing recovery" to God and all the prayers people have prayed for me.

    Dehydration?

I am jumping in here for some advice too... I am 8 days post op and I KNOW I have not gotten in enough liquids. I woke up this morning with a pounding headache, and am wondering if I should just go to the er and get fluids or if I can realistically drink enough to re-hydrate myself. My pee is looking concentrated and my skin is a wee bit dry. Knowing what you have been through, what would you do? Can one re-hydrate with 64ozs of water/gatorade in one day?

    Drinking And Eating

That video was awesome!!! Being 1 week post op that makes a great visual reminder. Thanks for sharing OTR!
  15. I was on the phone with our lousy internet company finally getting them to come out and fix our service... I was feeling a little "rumbly in my tummy". Mind you, I am 5 days post op, and everything is in liquid form. Well, as I am trying to get off the phone with the internet guy I ended up running through my bedroom throwing the phone on the bed and guess what. I did not make it.... omg.... Now, i listen to the gentle "rumbly in my tummy."

    Really Crappy Side Effect!

I saw my surgeon today and he said it could be normal, but since it happened over a few days he wants me to get a c-diff panel to check if the antibiotics messed up my intestines. I will post the results on here and any treatment when completed.

Wish I Would Have Taken Measurements!

THANK YOU for reminding me! I will be doing weekly pictures but I also need to get my current measurements. I am sure I have old spreadsheets or sparkpeople accounts I can gather up too.

    So Incredibly Disapointed In Myself

get samples! about time does samples, google tryabouttime.com and I think BJ's bariatrics carries the syntrax nectar drinks. I had some i liked pre surgery that are leaving a weird blanket coating across my tongue. g-ross!!! I see my surgeon tomorrow and I am going to ask if i can sip pureed/liquified protein foods to get my protein. What day were you sleeved? Mine was sept 28. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

I Did It! Surgery This Morning :)

They let me swish water in my mouth then spit it out. Everytime I blew on the spirometer thingee my mouth went crazy dry. See if they will let you swish and spit. And when you reach 5 days out be on toilet alert!!

    Heparin Shots...

I did. One before and i think 2 times after. I LOVED those leg massager thingees and I still like wearing my ted socks.
  21. At 5 days post op, and 11 lbs lost, my only guess is the two things I am realizing are a struggle for me at this stage: the water and the protein. Definetely drinking more water will help flush it out. I am not fond of water right now. Maybe focus on at least one or the other for a few weeks and see if you see a change. The benefit of not having lost 44 lbs is the lose skin. We both need to get the mindset that 64ozs a day is the vehicle of fat removal. If we don't get it a vehicle it will linger. Don't give up!!! And congrats on the 22 lb loss!!!!!!!

    Any September People

Had my sleeve and a hysterectomy on Sept 28. Only pain I felt was from the drain tube. Getting around just fine. No pain drinking unless it is too cold. Getting in protein and water but apple juice taste the best... Surprised at how well i feel.
  23. After a two hour yucky drive we made it to the hospital right around 11:30. We went into this small room and I swear 20 people were coming in and out asking me a bazillon questions. One thing I did not prepare for was my meds info!!! THey needed to know what I took last and what my doses were. Have that info with you!! THis part was really stressful for me. The anxiety, the emotion and the chaos. Not to mention my passive agressive husband who could not directly express his worry for me but instead got mad at other things and talked about work the whole way. He left before they put me out just to help alleviate the stress. I honestly don't remember much after about 1:30 (surgery was suppose to be at 1 but they were running late). NExt thing I knew I was waking up about 9:30 in a recovery room. It was a nice big private room. I had a pain along my left side and I am not sure if it was gas, or the drain tube. It was tough getting in and out of that bed with a stiff sore tummy, an IV on my right hand and a drain tube on my left side. OH, and a catheter. I think I had the catheter because I got a hysterectomy the same time as my sleeve. It seems like someone came i every hour that night to either give me a shot, take labs, take my blood pressure or something else. I got through the night and never really felt any pain, just discomfort on that one side. And boy, did I wince when they pulled that drain tube out!!! My surgeon came to see me and everyone said I was doing great having had 2 surgeries. I don't recommend going from a laying position to right out of bed. It was better to get myself upright and before my walks I sat in a chair. I got the catheter out on Saturday and did not realize I would have to call a nurse every 2 hours to use the bathroom. But it sure was nice to pee for real again!!! I had a few momentary fleeting bouts of nausea and to play it safe I asked for nausea medicine. The coughing after surgery SUCKS!! I definetely hold a pillow over my tummy and cough to try to clear it. I am a bit puffy but on my home scale I am down 4 lbs. Warm broth went down easy as did room temp water and apple juice. The cold stuff, not so good for me. I got released around 2 and it is good to be home. My husband is getting my pain med just in case but I stopped morphine early this morning. It feels so good t not have anything hooked up to me anymore!!! Oh, and I was sooo hungry before surgery, and now nothing. Hope it stays that way for awhile! Not to much gas. Didn't pass any till I got home. But I am hearing some gurgling. Welcome Sleevie!!!!
  24. I am sitting here just home from the hospital. I asked my surgeon about juicing and he said it was absolutely fine. I have some pear juice popscicles in the freezer waiting for me. I will definetely begin juicing soon.

    I Am Sleeved!

Got my sleevie yesterday!!!!! Only nausea I had was last night when I stood up for a minute, as soon as I laid down it felt better. Only pain is this one stinkin gassy area, but when I finally laid completely flat it felt much better. I was so hungry yesterday cuz surgery didn't happen until 2:30. It is so weird to not feel hungry NOW. Waiting to do my barium swallow (gag barf) to see if I can start sipping. Oh, and the hysterectomy went well too. I should be released tomorrow.
