  1. I had lap band surgery 2 yrs ago. Currently, I weigh about 10lbs less than I did before I had the surgery. I never had any restriction. If my band had been made any tighter, eventually I would have damaged my esophagus. I went back to my doctor, and she says I can do a revision to bypass surgery. I took the nutrition classes, but have not yet gone to the doctors for my clearances. I had no fear when I had the lap band surgery done, it just didn't work. I am so unhappy that I am not losing weight. Should I go ahead with the revision surgery, or just be sad for a lifetime?

  2. I have had the lapband for two years in June and only lost 20 lbs. I was seeing a nurse practitioner, and I'm not sure she knew what she was doing. I saw one surgeon in the practice that have me 1 additional cc, witch made my fill 9 ccs in an 11 cc band. Then I saw the other surgeon, and had a full under floroscopy. He removed saline because he said food was not flowing down to my stomach fast enough. Still no additional weight loss. Any I just feel defeated. Any suggestions?

  3. Thank you. I read the link, and I think I understand. I will refer to it often, in an effort to remind myself of how the band is supposed to work. Just a little frustrated that after all this time, I have not had more success. :-).

  4. The surgeon was the one who implanted my band, and he is surgeon in charge at a "Bariatric Center of Excellence".The NP is no longer associated with the practice. Since I went there today, I still have no restriction. I don't know what to do or think. He told me to make a follow up appt for 6 weeks.

  5. Had surgery one and a half years ago. I lost about 20 lbs, and was never able to lose any more. The nurse practitioner I saw always made it seem like I was a failure because I was not losing. A friend of mine suggested that I make an appt with a surgeon in my practice. I saw the surgeon. My fill was to 9ccs, With a fill under floroscopy, the surgeon is now telling me that he thinks my fill was too tight, because when we observed it, the barium I drank was stuck before it even reached my band. Some saline was actually removed. I am so confused, and have not really been successful after 16 months banded. Does anyone know what is going on?

  6. I had my surgery in the summer of 2011. I lost 20 lbs prior to surgery, and only 20 lbs since. I was seeing the nurse practitioner at my surgeons office. She gave me 9 1/2 ccs in my 11 cc band. Whenever I went to see her, she was asking me what was wrong with me, and telling me that she had only known one other person the band did not work for. I was eating well, and exercising, but I could not lose more than 20 lbs. I received a call from someone who had gotten the lap band when I did. She lost much more weight than I did. My friend suggested I make an appt with one of the surgeons in the practice, not the nurse practitioner. I went yesterday, and a doctor gave me a fill of one more cc. She said the next one can be done with an x-ray, just to make sure the band is ok, and fill it as much as possible, without being over filled. I have more restriction today. Sad that I wasted a year and a half, but hopeful that the band will work for me now.

  7. On the other hand, to me its NEVER time to stop losing weight, sigh. I really cant see how thin I am until I see a photo. For me, hitting the bottom of my healthy weight range was the sign "enough" and that I shouldnt go any lower. But I did dip a few lbs lower whilst I was sick, and I"m almost ashamed to say, I really liked it.

My ideal body type, what I wanted to achieve and what I think looks good - is thin. As long as its healthy. So its up to you.

Its entirely personal, and determined by your body type. I've seen people walking around and thought "I wish I could be as curvy and womanly as that", but they are generally people with a body type that is fairly short, but quite muscular, and they can carry a covering of fat that looks amazing - firm and curvy. I'm 5ft 10 tall and built to be skinny - any extra flesh on me does not create curves, it creates unattractive flab. I dont have the muscle to flesh it out. How does one have curvy hips and breasts yet still have firm thighs and a flat stomach? I sure cant, lol.

So I go for the elegant clothes horse look. Works for me.

I'd suggest take a good look at your body type and be honest. You cant work against it. You cant decide you want to be curvy if you're like me, staying at a size 10 just wont achieve that. Likewise if you're lucky enough to have muscles and shape, you cant decide that you want to be a swimwear model look alike. The healthy body weight range will accomodate both goals.

  8. Hi. I was banded on 6/27/11, and the last time I went to the Dr. I had only lost 12 lbs. (I gained 5 back). I was feeling like a failure. I happened to see a picture of myself. From the waist up it was amazing. I am so motivated now, eventually I know the rest will come. Keep it up. Success is just around the corner.

  11. I almost cried when I saw your post. I was only banded on 6/27/11. The last time I was at the Dr's office, I had only lost 12 lbs. I am so happy I only told a couple of people. I was still feeling like a failure. I couldn't believe I had surgery, and STILL wasn't losing weight. I have 9ccs in an 11 cc band. My next weigh-in is 3 days away. I saw a picture of myself yesterday for the first time since the surgery. When I was looking from the waist up, it was amazing. Now I know eventually the rest will come. I will be forever motivated. I still don't think I will ever tell that many people. But now I see there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And who knows, if you feel comfortable with it, maybe you can help someone you don't know change their life as well.

  12. Our stories are almost the same. I was banded on 6/27/11. I have only lost 12 lbs. I keep losing and regaining the same three pounds over again. It's very frustrating. I feel like a failure, and I'm so glad I didn't really tell anyone that I was having surgery. However, two days ago, I went to 9cc's. Since then, I have only been able to eat very little. I'm happy, but just a little concerned about getting all of my Protein in. Going to post to see if anyone can confirm if this is the "sweet spot" I've been waiting for, or if I am too tight. So hang in there. It's coming....Good luck! Hope you'll be smiling soon.

  13. I was banded on 6/25/11. In the beginning it was great. I was never hungry. I got 5 ccs for my first fill. Everything was ok, I was still losing weight. My next fill was 2 ccs. I was hungrier than before the lapband and gained 4 lbs :o . Today I got an addittional 1.5 ccs. It was too much! My stomach started making crazy noises, and I was so full I couldn't stand it. Just from a couple of swallows of Water. Half a cc was removed. I feel pretty good now. Praying that I've hit the sweet spot.

  14. I had breast reduction surgery 3 yrs ago and went from an I cup to a DD. I was banded on 6/27/11, and have lost 17 lbs. I went to buy a new bras last week. I tried one on, and all could say was ahhhh. No feeling like I was wearing a coat of armour. Pretty styles. Not even any underwire. NSV...Yes!:D

  15. Hi! I live in Newark. I went to my first seminar in late January. I had planned to have my surgery sooner, but I needed to have my surgery at a "Center of Excellence". I was banded on 6/27/11. The date will depend on your insurance company requirements, and the type/number of doctors you need to see for surgery clearance. Welcome to the journey.biggrin.gif
