My doctor charges 14,500$ for the surgery I still have to find out about the pre op stuff.

Hello, I got a call from my Doctor. I am in Gainesville. My insurance does not cover it. So far I have an appointment for an education seminar and then I will have to pay 200.00$ for a consultation with the doctor. I am on the hunt for a good loan. So far I want to go trough with it. I am looking forward to the class.

I am surprised about the in an out of the doctor. This doctor that I am hoping to have the surgery with has tons of steps before you can have the surgery. I had a packet full of questionaires that I got at the seminar to fill, once they get this packet they will review it and call me with an appointment with the surgeon and I will have to see a psychologist, attend a lap band educational class and meet with a support group of people who have had lap band surgery, I have also done a lot of reading on my own and I am asking myself lots of questions before my final decision to have the surgery. I am leaning towards the yes because I want to fill full after a few bites of food. I don't fry food the only fast food place we go to is Wendy's because I can get salads. I eat healthy but since I don't feel full easily I over eat. This is why I am leaning to have the procedure. Dalia

Puddin, have you had a ceremony to say good bye to your old self. May be write a letter saying good bye and mourn your old self. That may help you transition.

I have read and at the seminar on Saturday the doctor said that there is people with the band do better in the long run keeping their weight down than bypass even though in the weight loss with the bypass is faster. Did you get the band thinking it would be a quick and fast fix? I also go to another forum and a lot of the people with the bypass 3 yrs out or more are complaining of weight gain, even the doctor's helper at the seminar, she is 4yrs out and in the past year has gained 25 pounds that she is struggling with. For the lapband people the great thing is the fills you can get a fill and feel full sooner the bypass people once their stomach starts to stretch there is nothing to help them.

My ex husband is a great looking man (of course Knowing him as well as I do he is uglier than heck) anyways I married him 21 days after meeting him and after 7 years and 3 children (2 of which he wanted me to abort) trying to get out of my mariage that was full of emotional, physical, psychological, verbal abuse and cheating. Not all handsome men are like that but I think most are. My husband is handsome. He doesn't attract the same attention as the ex but on the inside he is the most beautiful handsome man on earth. I am really lucky to have him in my life and after what I have been through and still go through with the ex makes me appreciate him all the more. So have fun with the cute ones but be open to the not so cute. I lost 30 with Medifast last year (gained all back then some) and as I was loosing the weight I got scared about who am I going to be once the weight comes off?, will people like me? will my marriage survive the "new me" which is actually the real me that was suppressed by the fat and a few other questions. To bea ble to go to the closet and know whatever I pick will look good and no more; I got to make sure that this is covered and that is not showing. I have not worn shorts or tanktops in ages. Puddin You are amazing. Thank you for being so open. I am so inspired. I will have a breakdown in the doctors office if I am declined for the surgery. I cannot do it w/o it, I have tried so many things. I have been dieting since 9 yrs old and I am 31. As for the ex-boyfriend forget about him, when I met my husband while dating I made sure he saw me naked so he could see what he was getting. It was not easy. He saw me and still loves me and we have been married for 3 years and it has been 4 yrs since he saw me naked. He knows about my weight struggles and all. My ex husband was always making fun of my weight and telling me to loose weight and would not take me anywhere because of my weight. Just like I found someone who loves me for my soul and personality, you will too. Dalia

I am very happy to have found you guys. I saw a comercial this morning for the Lap band and I have been looking for info since. I found a doctor here and on January 27th I will be attending the seminar. The one issue I have is the money so as soon as I know the price I guess I will be hitting my bank for a loan, hopefully low inerest. I am 31 yrs old and 210 lbs. I hope I am not intruding since I have not had the procedure.

It has been less than a week since I found out about the lap band. I have told my husband about it bits and pieces but I have mentioned that I really want this twice. Last night was the second time and he looked at me like saying I want a million dollars but that ain't happening either. I am very sad because he has seen me struggle with this and he has even done diets with me(not that he needs it) to quit very quickly, he knows how much I cry and suffer when it comes to clothes and how scared I am for my life. I understand his money worry but I have not even found out if my insurance covers it. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield POS which is a pain in the behind. It is true that people that have not struggle with weight don't understand, I have that with my mother who says all I have to do is close my mouth and I will loose weight. Bringing hubby with me to the seminar is a great idea I did not think of that because I thought he would be bored and restless. I did hear of someone here in Georgia with the same insurance that I have got approved fast. I am making the call tomorrow. I just found out about the band Thursday morning and have been looking on line for all sorts of info and this group is a wonderful aid.

I have not attended the seminar yet. I will this coming Saturday. I don't know which kind of questions they ask. I got this info from Lapband.com and from my local surgeon's website. For what I have read the BMI goes as 35 with health problems like sleep apnea or diabetes or depression or reflux etc... and over 40 they just say yes. I have a BMI of 36, I have not had a physical in a long time so I don't know if I have diabetes which runs on my mothers side of the family.

Piercedqt78: is there a reason why you stayed after being supposed to go home the same day?

I don't know what I was thinking but I did not expect that many insicions.

Hi I am in Gainesville, Georgia. I found a doctor here but I guess he may be too far for you all. I am glad to have found people from Georgia. I have not had the procedure done. I am attending a seminar this coming saturday to start the process.

In my case I went to lapband.com and the process is: Attending a seminar, having a physical and a psychological evaluation done and visiting the surgeon. Dalia
