  1. I had surgery June 8th - I had the same thing but it went away - I did not have much gas pain the first few days however on day 5 I had VERY SEVERE gas pain in the shoulder however Gas X strip as well as heating pad- walking and hot tea helps a ton

I had my surgery about 4 days ago, and for the 1st couple of days I was suffering from severe gas that gave me pain. I am pretty sure the gas is gone, and I am starting to feel normal again. However, I can be sitting there, and all of a sudden I get a severe pain in my chest like a golf ball is stuck there. This pain can last anywhere from 5 sec to 30 secs. I even wake up in the middle of the night with the same feeling. It sometimes feels like something is lodged, but I know it's not. Since I am only on liquids. If this pain could go away, I would feel fine. Can someone help me, because I don't think I am going to make it until my 2 week check up?

  2. I was on a liquid diet for 8 days before surgery

So I was lurking on this forum for about a month (by the way you all are amazing!!) so after being approved for surgery this past Friday I was expecting them to say, "oh and by the way, only liquids from now until surgery...Welp, I was in for a big suprise when she said "Just come here on July 6th for pretesting, and your pre-op appt with the dr will be the day before surgery." soooooo Maye she'll tell me only liquids at the July 6th appt. Even still, my surgery is July 13th so that's only a week of liquids!!

    Sound familiar to anyone?

  3. I was banded June 8th -6days post op and I gotta tell ya I feel GREAT- Day 3 I went to Walmart with my hubby just for the walk and to get out of the house Day 5 started using my stationary bike for 30 minutes feeling great~ I would suggest Gas X strips they work great - take a couple a day even if the gas pain seems to be gone- I did have tremendous gas in my shoulder for the first time yesturday - took Gas X Strip Heating pad - hot tea and walking did help tremendously as well as Tyleno. You will sleep all day the first day of surgery as welll as most of 2nd by 3rd day your soreness will go way down and it is uphill from there! At least that has been my experience so far Good luck and keep us posted~ ;)

My surgery is in 6/17 too! I am really nervous as well. Let me know if you get any good advice or words of wisdom.

  4. I use www.Sparkpeople.com it helps you track calories as well as weight and fitness - you can add your own menus or it will reccomend for you - of course being banded you need to modify their menus and calorie intake (they usually suggest more calories than we can have or want)

You can also add foods you eat and it will calculate the calories and Protein etc for you I really like it a ton

Do you have a menu you follow daily/weekly? What does your chart look like? Did you get it from a site, or make one up on your own? Needing some creative ways to keep one step ahead of a disaster :-)

  5. I think it depends on each person however had my surgery June 8th - I slept all day Wed - Thursday slept off an on all day - drank about 2 oz of Protein Shake over about 15 minutes (maybe less) and sipped on Water all day -- each day I drink a little more - I am 5 days post op and have a Protein shake in the AM about 3-4 oz - sugar free Jello cup around noon - protein shake again for lunch and about 3/4 cup chicken bouillon for dinner - so as you can see it depends on the person but it is really not bad and you will be surprised how good you will start feeling on day 2..and on I even excercised for 30 minutes today on my stationary bike -- BEST THING I EVER DID~ :D

  6. I actually feel great! I like the goal weight I think adding the Water is good - I used to drink tons of Water every day until the band now its a little harder I am sure it will get easier - OK As of surgery day I was 236 so by July 1 I would like to be at 221 so 15lbs~

congrats on the band! how are you feeling? Im about 9 days out and definitely feeling back to myself- so hang in there!

So pick a goal weight you'd like to hit by July 4th. So for instance, im at 223. By July 4th Id like to be 210. So my goal is 13 lbs in the 3 weeks. Granted after just being banded, your priority should be healing and not weight loss- but its still fun to have a challenge! Usually we also add things in like drinking all of your water for the day, and exercising at least 3-5x per week (since we are both new bandsters, for us I guess light walking would be better!)

What do you think? anything you'd like to add?

  7. If you have a 401K you can borrow against it and it is a loan but you are paying yourself back

I guess I don't need to worry, My Dr does not accept carecredit, I do not know why, but they said they never turned anyone down for $ so I think they have a payment plan themselves. I have my next appt july 11, so that will be my official start of my 3 mo medically supervised diet plan, I guess I will know more then , I just did not want to get excited and find out its wayyyy more than what I can afford. I live alone, and its on all me. 3 months is 6 paychecks, 8 at most, not much time to prepare-

  8. I just got banded June 8th I would love a challange ,,, July 4th works for me .... what do you want the challange to be B)

Hey guys! So I used to do nutrisystem a few years ago, and the best part was the challenges on the message boards. Basically its just a group of us that post often and provide support, vent, share victories, and just chat! You pick a goal for the duration of the challange (like maybe a July 4th one for now!) and post weekly weigh ins.

I just got banded on 6/2 and as Ill be moving to soft foods in a few days, I would definitely love a good challenge and some new friends! So let me know if you are interested and Ill start a new thread with it!

  9. Always check woth your doctor but I would think you would be fine for Aerobics  My doc told me as long as I feel up to it Ican start excersing next week (1 week after surgery)

Hi all, I have a quick question.

I am six weeks post op and was wondering if I can start aerobic classes? it's the weekend so I can't really call my doctor to ask, but I was wondering what your experiences were and what you think.

    Thanks.

  10. Hang in there - you did not sabatoge yourself with one burritto but start new tomorrrow and after the first couple of days it will get easier - remmeber your ultimate goal~ :) The purpose of the liquid diet is to shrink your liver so the stomach is more assessible for the surgeon. If yu have been on a high Protein diet before surgery you normally do not need a liquid diet .. I am sure you will be okie dokie :P

Its 5 days..you so can do it..I know its hard...you didn' sabotage yourself and I am sure you will be fine for surgery just try your best to stick with it..the doctor must feel its best and you certainly dont want to possibly cause an issue with getting surgery over a buritto:) hang in there...you will be fine..just try and do your best at sticking with it..you are going to need that self discipline through this process so you need to find it in yourself! Good luck!

  11. It depends on how long you have carried the weight and if you currently excersice or exeercise after you get the band. If you have 60 lbs to llose and excercise with your diet I think at your age you will do very well

I am hoping to get my lap band ASAP but I am wondering if, as a 19 year old with about 60 pounds to lose, will my skin/boobs/stomach sag and require a tummy tuck/boob job? Is skin still elastic enough at this age, that it will not sag? Would love an answer so I know what to expect! THANKS!

  12. nNothing to be afraid of - I was banded June8th I am 4 days post op and feel great- I was on a liguid diet for 9 days befor surgery and for the first 5 days after surgery still on liguids The first 2 days are the hardest - keep yourself busy and have lots and lots of Water or crytal lite right next to you... it does get better and easier -- What helped me was I ketp thinking how much weight will I lsoe by surgery day -- it was 11 lbs I was psyched!!! I am not a scale reader I go ont he scale 1x per week - so just hold tight wait ti out and youw ill be successful. it is tough biut will get easier PROMISE!:D

cess has moved quickly say 2 months. going thru apptments & approved within days of my last apptment. just scared

  13. I was banded June 8th - I am on a different diet - 5 days liquid only - 5 days (if it cna go thru a straw I can have it ) 5 days -if you can mash it with a fork eat it then 16 day on work back into solid foods - I cannot beleive how good I feel Day 1 I slept - day 2 sore when turned only took half a doese of Pain med mid day and when I went to bed- Day 3 went to Walmart to get out of the house - walked around -- n pain meds all day - today vacumed my floors no pain INCREDIBLE~ How are you feeling- Also gas issues -pain- first couple of days WOW

Hello fellow banders! I was banded on June 7, 2011 and am on day 4 of my new life. My surgeon has me on liquids only for the first 3 weeks and I am trying very hard to *love the protein*. I am drinking 2 oz of nectar every hour and have decided to mix it up a bit with light Muscle Milk. Not doing to bad considering that when I weighed in at the hospital on Tuesday I was 220 and now I am 211.8. Yay! I am happy there is a place for banders to go to get support and tips--that makes the journey a bit easier for me. Please feel free to contact me and share your words of wisdom, frustrations, highs, lows and successes.

    Cheers!

  14. Agree - switching up is a good idea -I travel a lot with my job so out of town I use the eliptical machine and tread mill - at home I swim in my pool - and create my own Water aerobics as well as Water weights - just keep moving in the water - Once you get past the first two weeks of commiting yourself to doing soem sort of excercse at least 3-4 xs a week it gets much easier and you even start looking forward to it. Hope this helps

I was banded in late December 2009. I have lost only 44 lbs! I did not receive a fill until 4 to 5 months after my surgery. I currently have 12 ccs in a band that holds 14. I have had a hard time sticking to an exercise regiment, and I am truly frustrated. Any suggestions? Someone please help me!

  15. Great job sounds like you are having a good time :)

Hello Everybody, new bandsters and old =) here is my diet, exercise, and daily stuff

I just wanted to share my success and ups and downs so far.

i was banded on 3/32/2011. at surgery i had 5 cc's in. i have had fills and now am at 6cc's.

i think that may just be the right spot, not hungry at all =)

    my food has been :

730am coffee with equal and cream ( i never skimp on the cream)

    my chewable muli vitiman

    830am Water with flavored benefiber

    1030am Water

1230 Breakfast , 100 cal muscle milk light, I have tried the eas advanage ones, but for some strange reason they make me hungry, so now i only have the mm light

    230 coffee with 1/2 and 1/2

    330 water with benefiber

    430 lunch mm light

    630 water with benefiber

830 dinner, 1/2 head of romaine lettuce, i small Tomato, red onion, feta or gorganzola cheese, garlic expressions dressing

1/2 cup chicken salad ( light mayo, canned chicken, red onion) or fish, chicken brest, OR veggies are my fav , stema fresh garlic califlower smashed up with a laughing cow french onion square mmmm

I also have sf popcicles at night and sometimes snack on almonds.

i found i could eat a lot more till my last fill ( thursday) and now it def seems like im really full after less food so i guess that is right =)

my exercise is walking my dog every am, up and down some big hills, and i sell cars so im pretty active through out the day.

I can feelmy port now, weird. and so far it had been great, i wish i did it when i wa in my 20's instead of my 30's.

i started at 267 and now at at 230, my goal is 150.

I have not been stuck, in pain, thrown up, had a slimy or anything bad, just my first fill i had a Vasovagal attack , which was scarry, but 2nd fill was fine.

I have been up and down my whole life, highest weigh was 300 and lowest was 180 so im veryy happy I had my lapband put in. i regret not doin it sooner !!

i did have a ice cream sunday at outback one night, but for the most part i do not eat many carbs and eat one meal a day. i still do have bad cravings when i am pmsing, and will eat a small piece of dove chocolate , or 2 lol

and today i had a 1/2 of a 1/2 of subway 6inch turkey flatbread with avacado, just to test out my new fill, and it worked, full and not wanting any more

if anybody has any questions feel free to email me.

i love this talk page, its geat for all of us

  16. June 8th for me~~~~~~ Hope you are doing well

Just got approval!! June 29th surgery date for me! :) YAY! biggrin.gif This has been in the works for years, so I'm SUPER EXCITED for it to finally be reality! And scared also!

No pre-op diet for me. I just had to lose a percentage of my total weight (5% I think) to be ready for surgery. I think I'm there already but I will just keep eating well and get as low as I can before my date.

Best wishes to all of you!!!

  17. :rolleyes:Look for a MEDICAL STAFFING COMPANY AND A SCHOOL THAT TEACHES MEDICAL

PROFFESSIONALS - THERE ARE MANY STUDENTS AND STAFF WHIO WOULD LOVE THE

    SCRUBS (as lquote name='pinknsassyemt' timestamp='1307305325' post='1622231']

My biggest "sad" moment is all my scrubs. I am a scrub "*****" and have about 30 sets, all top of the line, newest styles and @ 25.00 a piece. I am hoping to find someone to donate them too, but I don't want to offend anyone by asking if they want them.. So... I am going to use this post.. if there are any medical professionals that need 2x, XL scrubs send me a message and as I shrink out of them I will send them on their way.
