I think the thing that pi$es me off the most is he didn't have the cahoonas to reply or even acknowledge that he got the email!! I have even "bumped into him" on Facebook a time or two and nothing . I refuse to train with someone who lacks compassion. I have 12 training sessions left at that gym, I can't wait to see the look on his face when there is a huge difference after the surgery and with a more understanding trainer.
I go see the surgeon on Monday. If all goes well I will have the surgery the May 26. I am self pay and may not be able to get to money until mid-June but regardless, it is a short enough time that I am getting nervous and second guessing myself.
This guy sounds like a real douch bag ! Dont let people like him rent space in your head ! You are making this descion for YOU and your LIFE !! =)

So I had my very first meeting with my surgeon today . It went very well and ive already started the necessary testing for surgery .He seemed all for lap-band he thought i would do very well with it . However , I noticed he seemed like he was more of a fan of the Gastric Bypass result wise. He explained to me the risk of both surgeries so I understand what it means to have the bypass. I was just wondering if anyone else battled with this ? I was 100 % all for my Lap- band but now since meeting with him im kind-of second guessing myself. I have 3 months to decide which is best for me . He said and I quote " La-band takes a long long time to see actual results and thats if you diet and exercise . The bypass you will see results right away " . Now of course im thinking " if I knew how to properly diet and exercise I wouldn't be in this predicament " .
Help !

I dont want to miss anymore of this one life we get anymore. I want to do things like other people . I want to put on a pair or shorts & jeans without any effort . i want to go shopping without getting depressed. i want to FIT on a ride at a amusement park . I am considering Lap Band surgery. I live in NYC and wanted to know if anyone has advice on the surgeons in NYC?
I am hoping my insurance will cover it. If not I am considering the self pay option. Does anyone have advice about either option?
Hello ! You should defiantly check out North Shore university hospital !! Its a huge surgical team and they are wonderful ! They also accept HIP- medicaid !!! Which is hard to find these days! They are super nice and will work with the insurance company to make sure you get pre-approved!
Here's their # 516 482-8657
Good luck !!!
Check Yes ! =)

My name is Khristi Pippin. My prayers were finally answered this past thursday when I was finally banded. I began my journey in December 2009. I was initially denied two times because my BMI was borderline with no co-morbidities. My bmi was 39. I finally received approval this past May when my primary Doc sent me for a sleep study and it was discovered that I have pretty significant sleep Apnea. My starting weight was 236 when I initially started this journey. After the 2 week preop liquid diet I am at 214! I am so excited ! I can't wait to see how I feel and look in the next 6 months!
Congrats on the beginning of your new life !!! I cant wait to get on the band- wagon myself !!!!

nayttap is right.
The insurance companies don't tell you what to chose. They just look at what you are requesting and see if you have all the paperwork/documentation they require. You just have to talk to your doctor and decide what is best for you. My BMI was 50 when I got my band, but gastric bypass or the sleeve was just not what I wanted. My doctor agreed with me after he read my files/essay and spoke to me.
You don't have to worry about the insurance company mandating what kind of surgery you have. Just chose the best surgery for you and your lifestyle. Don't base your choice on what you think other people want you to do. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out.
You are so right Crecia ! Thank you so much !!

CONGRATS !!!! SOunds like you worked really hard for this day !!! =) Enjoy the new you !!

Oh you skinny little people.... I started at 68. My Dr. didn't even blink when I said I wanted the band instead of by-pass. So happy with my choice. Good luck to you!
Thank you !! Thank you !! =)

I live on Long island. 4 years post op and down 220 pounds
HI! im in long Island ! meeting my surgeon for the first time next week !! =)
-
I started with a BMI over 50 and other than the nutritionist asking if I had considered the sleeve (which my insurance wouldn't pay for) I was never discouraged from getting a lapband. My BMI is now under 40 (no longer morbidly obese) so the band is working for me.
Thats good to hear ! I just dont know if gastric bypass is really a option for me. I have a new baby at home and the recovery time is so much longer than the band !!
-
I started out with a BMI of 47.8. Now it's 26.4 I had no problem getting BCBS to approve me. In fact it took less than a month! My employer switched to them on 5/1. I found out that they covered lapband so I made an appt for my consultation on 5/15 and had surgery on 6/10!
That would be so awesome ! I just have my heart set on the band!! I see my PCP tomorrow and my surgeon next week. Hopefully ill be okay and everything moves right along =)

Hey everyone . I'm sure this thread had been done before but I'm on my phone and can't find it . I've had my heart set on Lap band and today after finding out my bmi is so high , I'm thinking my insurance company is most likely going to want me to have the Gastric bypass . Now I'm terrified !! I guess it's the fear if the unknown . Can some of you please share with me your experiences good / bad with both the band & bypass ?
-
I'm terrified !! I just looked up my bmi and 48.5 ! Does this mean that my insurance and surgeon would prefer Gastric bypass rather the band !? It said I was morbidly obese ,
Or will this make it easier to get approved ?

I don't have a problem with steak as long as it isn't dry (I like mine medium rare). I do have to cut it into smaller pieces that I would for chicken and make sure I chew it well but I have never gotten stuck on steak.
Thats good news ! ive heard different things from different people . Im 100% a carnivore so when i hear i couldnt have beef i died a lil inside. lOl
THank you for replying =)

What the hell id let them try it out on me if it was free and while i was waiting. But as a alternative to the Lap-band itself ...I dont think so . Not for me anyway . It is quite interesting tho . Keep us updated if you do it ! =)

I went to the seminar today and I am so excited!!! I have to do 4 months doc supervised died. I am nervous about that. I go next Friday to launch that. Why does the insurance require it?
Congrats !! im so excited for you !! i haven't been banded yet but i see my surgeon next week !! Im thinking mine will be in about 4 months as well . Im not exactly 100% sure about why insurance requires that. im guessing to see if you maintain at the weight you are at now or you are actually able to lose with a supervised diet. i think if they think you can lose on your own then you dont need the surgery ? Again this is just my GUESS !! I have no clue. lol
Lotta help i am

i agree with Sandworms ! It is noones business because unless the person is also overweight and already thinking about the band , they usually look at you with a smile but they are thinking " Wow they are so lazy . " . Ive learned my lesson telling anyone anything ! ! Lol Oh and when you try to say " It's just a TOOL , its really hard work " the expression on most of their faces get worse !! haha
