  1. I would layer that shredded chicken with some fat free shredded cheese and refried (canned or home made) Beans, layer it up put in in the oven in a casserole take it out of the oven put some fat free greek youghurt and salsa (and perhaps some guack) and have a nice high Protein (and high fat so be careful, although avocado is good fat) mexican bake - mmmmm:)

  2. that makes me so happy to hear that. I'm excited as well, although I got a call from my doc today explaining that he would be out of the country (he travels from Britain to here to do surgery in both countries) on the day he scheduled my surgery and could I be so kind as to postpone until three days later! It doesn't seem like a big deal but when you are waiting with baited breath it is a HUGE deal LOL! I have never in my life looked forward to surgery so much!!!!!!!

  3. Thanks for your input ladies! It just says isolate whey proteine in huge letters as if it were the name. The first thing listed in the ingredients is "pure whey Protein isolate". It's made by an american company called Organiqelle. For a huge jug (two weeks worth) it's like 50 odd dollars. I know it sounds expensive but I work in the Middle East where Protein Powder is hugely expensive as well as not as readily available as back home. I found it in the grocery, so that means that I may not find it again, which means buy enough for a few months. Things here come and go and when you see it you jump on it and buy buy buy. My friend has a son who will only eat kraft cheese and mac and you can only find it occassionally here so she stocks up and when i say stock up I mean STOCK UP! Thanks girls and I think that I will definately be buying this product. Any other protein powder was 100 dollars and up

  4. I'm getting sleeved in two weeks and have been preparing my home for my new life ie: got rid of the junk, got some sugar free jellos and puddings but the Protein powder Im confused about.

I am not a fan of the ultra sweet flavor of the Protein Powder but I found a powder that has no flavor, no aspartame, no artificial food colouring, no preservatives and no food flavouring and "micro/ultrafiltration Low Temperature Process Low Lactose". It has 24 grams of whey Protein and it is Isolate whey Protein Mix.....is this a good one? It is good for me because of the no flavor so I figured I could mix it in with everything (Soup, coffee, pudding, baby food) and wouldn't actually have to drink that horrible (sorry to those of you who love the stuff) Protein drinks that I have to gulp down in order to keep it down in order to avoid vomiting.....considering that after the sugery "gulping down" will not be an option. I would so appreciate anyone's input on this matter.....if you say it's a go I"m out to the store to stock up! So excited 12 days and I'm sleeved!

more points: it's organic and CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! 101 calories when mixed with Water 1 gram of carbs and 0 sugar....

  5. Thanks so much for responding. I think that I'm pretty much 98 percent sure that it will be the sleeve for me. I did find the pregnancy forum and I"m so grateful to have found it. I think that I won't bother to waste my time using the band, it seems there are so many banders who are now converting to the sleeve because their quality of life is improved with the sleeve rather than the band.

  6. Tiffany you are an amazing pillar of knowledge!!!! Thanks so much for putting perspective into this whole journey for me. I want, also, to congratulate you on your pregnancy. This is the reason I'm opting for wls. My husband and i have ben ttc for over a year know. We lost two babies to ectopic and now I'm missing one tube and the other tube is destroyed, malformed and completely damaged, ie: no hope for natural conception....unless to get recannelization which is not really recommended.....sigh. I wish you the best and safest pregnancy with a beautiful bouncing baby!!!!!!

  7. I read this and my heart broke for you as well. I have the same issues with infertility and my reasons for the surgery are the same. I was scared thinking maybe the baby could not develop properly or that perhaps it would make conceiving difficult but it seems women are getting pg. I wish with all of my heart that you will have the hsg (which indeed can unblock your tubes, mine are blocked blocked blocked from previous surgery). If not there is always IVF (if your religioius views do not totally go against it) Good vibes going out to you and luck with your conceiving.

  8. I'm in my early 30's and my husband and I are having some trouble conceiving. We have been told that we need to do IVF which is what is prompting me to do weight loss surgery. Apparently IVF does not work as well when you are overweight. Since I don't have time to waste I have to get this weight problem under control pronto. My surgeon told me I can wait 6 months but that seems a little bit quick ( I was thinking maybe 1-2 years for optimal healing). Also, will I be able to get enough nutrients to sustain both myself and baby???? I need some opinions and some facts from those who are seasoned sleevers....it will affect whether I am banded or sleeved!

    Thanks a bundle

  9. Thanks alot. I don't think I would do it in Egypt just because of the uprising there right now....even though hosne is gone it's still not quite right.....unless you can tell me otherwise the media is not always a great place to get info, sometimes it's best to hit up the people who are actually there....

  10. I used to live in Doha and was a patient at Al Ahli while I was there. I lost my first baby at that hospital. I have found 3 doctors here. All three are Western trained. One is from Lebanon and trained at the American University of Beirut and then did fellowships in the states (he has the best reputation), another is Indian and trained in Ireland/england (he's only done 150 surgeries so decided against him), the third is Iraqi, trained in Manchester England has a good reputaion and has done 900 surgeries with only three leaks....and told me should there be a leak he would cover the entire cost of everything. He also told me that he those leaks were in the beginning of his time. I think three out of 900 is not a bad ratio. All three have no mortality rate because in the UAE if you lose a patient in an elective surgery like bariatric weight loss you will be cancled and asked to leave. All doctors charge under 10,000 dollars. My husband is Jordanian so we are looking into hospitals in Jordan (they have a great reputation in the middle east for medical) but I'm most likely going to go with the Iraqi doctor.......he did my friends band and she loved him.

  11. I am a self pay and we were going to borrow against some CD's we have to get my loan for surgery. Unfortunately our credit isn't that great (husband is self employed and has taken a hit financialy) and in order to get the loan it will tie up ALL of our equity. Having 5 kids the thought of doing that makes me sick. We never know what predicament is going to pop up and I can't see putting ourself in a dire financial situation to pay for the surgery. Currently I'm looking for a job (with NO luck).

I really just want to cry. I've even gone as far as signing surgery consents and am just waiting to get my date. We had no idea the situation was this bad. I guess we could cash in the CD's and pay for the surgery, but there goes our safety net if I do.

I'm just needing to vent..and if you are still reading this thanks for listening :)

I agree that your kids need you healthy AND happy. How much do you have to pay? The surgery here is about 10,000 but I hear in Mexico it's half the price....

  12. Gastric sleeve and sleeve plication are two differant surgeries. In the sleeve 85 percent of the somach is removed creating a sleeve. In the plication the stomach is folded in on itself and sutured in that position to creat the sleeve. There are pros and cons to both

Really??? I read that the only difference is that it is stiched instead of stapled and that it is reversable??? I wonder how I got that Idea:) My surgeon says that the sleeve is the best option for me and he didn't recommend the plication. WHATEVER I have done I hope it's done soon! I'm sick of being fat and feeling bad about myself and not feeling healthy at all!

  13. Hey there my name is italian Lady. I'm getting sleeved as soon as possible! I had a consultation with a sugeon last week and went in thinking that I was going to get the lap band and scared to DEATH of spending the rest of my life vomiting! UNTIL he informed me of a new and improved operation called the sleeve. So now i'm hunting around for a surgeon (I live in the UAE) who can give me the appropriate surgery. So is it Gastric Sleeve Plication or just a vertical sleeve. If anyone has any tips or advice for me I would greatly appreciate it!!! Thanks!

  14. I was watching youtube last night and a sleeved gal was talking about how much she missed fried moz cheese sticks so she made a healthier and sleeve friendly alternative which is as follows:

    1 package of ground turkey.

    oregano

    Whole wheat bread crumbs

1 baby bell light cheese circle

    salt and pepper to tast.

She rolled up some meatballs using the turkey breast, oregano, bread crumbs salt and pepper. Then she cut up the baby bell light cheese into small pieces and pushed a small piece into the centre of the meat ball and rolled the meat around it. She popped it in the oven for 20 minutes on 400 and VOILA she had herself some make-shift cheese sticks! They sounded pretty yummy now and I'm not sleeved! when I finally do get sleeved (crossed fingers on July) I'm definately going to try that once I can eat normal foods.
