We removed the monthly forums. There are usually topics in each surgery forum for the month you had surgery. -
BariatricPal Official Facebook Group: Secret or Private?
Alex Brecher posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's 2018 and BariatricPal is going to be a bit more social this year! We're planning to launch an Official BariatricPal Facebook Group later this week. The big question we have: Should we keep the Facebook group completely Secret or just Private? -

BariatricPal Official Facebook Group: Secret or Private?
Alex Brecher replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Closed and secret Facebook groups seem like they should be fairly similar. The difference is that closed groups can be seen by the public, while secret groups can't. If you create a closed group, the name of it, its members, and its description can be seen by the public—basically everything but the posts in the group. The benefit of having a closed group is that anyone can find us. If it’s secret, members can only find us by invitation. We’re leaning towards keeping it secret. -
I do not believe Dr. Kurian is affiliated with NYU these days. That's Dr. Ren, Dr. Fielding, and Dr. Schwack. Dr. Kurian used to be part of that practice but went on her own a few years back. She's highly regarded and respected in the bariatric surgeon community. She's a good choice!

This is a great idea! I've talked to quite a few people over the last few years that had the same goal in mind. They never launched their podcasts. I hope you're more successful than they were.

New BariatricPal Tracking App! What Features Do You Want?
Alex Brecher posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey BariatricPal Members, We’re developing a new BariatricPal tracking app, and we want to know what features you want in it! Can you please let us know the MUST-HAVE features? Here are a few questions to guide you. -Are restaurant foods essential? -What is the easiest way to enter foods? Do you want to have a dropdown menu appear as you are typing? -Do you need to be able to enter custom foods and recipes? -Which nutrients are necessary to be tracked? -Should some nutrients be more prominent than others? For example, do you want the option to choose a certain nutrient (say, protein and water), and be able to see a countdown of the number of grams of protein and ounces of water to get to your daily goal? -Do you want to set customized goals for calories and nutrients? -What other goal-setting features would you want to see? Please describe any other features you want to see. What makes a food tracking app worth it to you? What does the user interface (what you see) look like? Can you please say what is absolutely necessary, and what might be nice, and what you would hate to see? Or…how would you like your user experience to go? Can you describe what your ideal scenario would be each time you use the app? We want to make this the best tracking app possible, so let us know. You can be part of making the best diet and weight loss tracker yet! Thanks!- 43 replies

Here are the nutrition facts for Centrum Women: Each tablet contains 3 mcg of B-12. ASMBS guidelines require 350 mcg for Gastric Bypass, at a minimum! You'd need to take 116 Centrum Women pills to hit those #s.
-
This is an ad from Bariatric Advantage that really drives my point home. You would need 58 Centrum chewable vitamins every single day if you wanted to meet the latest ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery) guidelines!
-
I'd look at it more like an investment into your health and lifestyle Vs. an expense. Then again we also sell Bariatric Advantage vitamins in our store so my advice could be a bit biased You're also (most likely) going to save a ton of $ after surgery since most people end up buying less food. There is a difference in Bariatric vitamins vs Centrum or others you buy at the corner pharmacy. Whatever you do end up using, make sure to monitor your labs on a regular basis and you'll be fine.

New Whey Liquid Protein! It's a miracle!!
Alex Brecher replied to BettyBoop86's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
We stopped carrying New Whey in the BariatricPal Store a while ago because it was the most returned product we've ever carried. The company was taken over about 6 months ago and they promised to reformulate. I hope this is the new product. -
Missing kidney after surgery
Alex Brecher replied to EW11211's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Every surgical case is unique. Some cases are riskier than others. It's up to the surgeon to make this decision. In the BariatricPal Hospital, we require patients to stay 2 nights for sleeve gastrectomy or mini gastric bypass or 3 nights for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or duodenal switch. Patients stay another additional night in our hotel and are under medical supervision the entire time. -
Missing kidney after surgery

I actually researched this story. It's 100% FAKE NEWS! I thought it was April fools there for a second -
It would be great if they'd publish the PatchMD clinical trial results! We offer a 100% money back guarantee on all products we sell. If you don't like your labs after using the patches, we will refund your money. We do have a notice posted on all PatchMD products we sell: Nutritional patches are a new technology. As with any nutritional supplements, consumers should use nutrition patches according to their healthcare providers' recommendations and regularly monitor nutrient levels through lab work as they would when taking any dietary supplements.

What’s best... BariatricPal or Celebrate?
Alex Brecher replied to Gretchel Z's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We don't really sell our own brand of vitamins! We do carry Celebrate Vitamins as well as many other Bariatric friendly vitamin brands in the BariatricPal Store. I personally love Celebrate Vitamins. They're a great company and really care about their patients. Support BariatricPal and purchase your vitamin patches from us! -
Celebrate Tomato Soup Protein?
Alex Brecher replied to istytehcrawk's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I have some bad news for you, Celebrate Vitamins is eliminating the Tomato Soup Meal Replacement. That's why it's no longer available on their site in single packets.
