Pre-Op Diet
I was told that I have to do a 2 week pre-op diet by my surgeon's office. I decided to begin a week early and do 2 Protein shakes per day along with one healthy meal. Today I had to start the surgeon required portion of the diet and I was told that I could have 2 shakes per day, and could only eat Soup, SF Jello, and SF popsicles, though no specific calorie limit was set so now, I have absolutely no idea how many calories I should be eating. Last week I kept it at 1200 per day with a lot of success, I wasn't hungry and I lost 6.5 pounds. Today I've had only 535 calories and I'm not starving, but I am hungry and am not sure if it's ok for me to go up to 800 or if I should try to keep it around 500 - 600 per day. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome! Thanks Erin

I need help friends
Maybe you're pushing the solids a little too quickly, I was told no chicken until 6 months out. I'm not sleeved yet, but just based upon my list of approved foods for after surgery, it seems like you should still be barely introducing mushies (i.e. yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs). I think you can even have things like oatmeal with a little bit of milk as well. My friend who just had the surgery was told by her surgeon that she has to wait until week 3 to start yogurt and can't have any meat until week 4, and when she starts meat it's only moist fish and a tiny bit of it. If you are throwing up food maybe try backing off of those foods and waiting to try them again for another couple of weeks. Stick with the things you know don't cause you to vomit. Hope that helps a little.

Day 3 on my 2 week Pre Op Diet....
I am on day 1 of my 3 week liquid diet. I'm sooo grumpy and hungry right now, and I have the mother of all headaches. I'm glad that the feeling is normal and that others are experiencing the same thing. I keep reminding myself that this is a means to an end.

Help!!!!
Thanks for your response. They told me that I have to do the pre-op diet to lose the 10 pounds because I haven't been able to do it on my own. The nurse specifically told me that I have to do Optifast or medifast and I guess the surgeon even wrote a prescription for it. Not sure what their reason is for those specific brands or why it has to be all liquid. She initially said that I had to be on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks, but then changed it to just liquids. I'll check out GNC and see what options they have.

Help!!!!
I just got a call from my surgeons office and the nurse told me that I have to start an all liquid diet next Wednesday so that I can lose 10 pounds before surgery. If I don't lose the 10 pounds they will cancel my surgery. Now for my question: The nurse said that I can go with Optifast or Medifast and I'm not sure which one to choose. Any suggestions? I have to buy them today to make sure that I have them. Thanks. Erin

only 20 pounds lost since surgery!!!!!
I'm not sure what your goal weight is, however, given the fact that you were at 194 to start with, you likely have about 50 lbs. excess weight to lose, if your goal is around 140 lbs you've already lost more than 50% of your excess weight over the past three months! That's amazing and fantastic!!!! Keep in mind that because you don't have as much excess weight to shed, that your weight loss is likely to be slower than those who have a lot more to lose. With that said, I have seen TONS of people with similar weight loss goals that meet and exceed their goals within the first 6 months. Give yourself time! For what it's worth, I think that you're doing FABULOUS considering the circumstances! Keep it up and you'll be at goal before you know it!

Mow much more weight lost after revision?
My surgeon told me that I should lose 75% of my excess weight over the first year. Since I have over 200 lbs to lose, I will probably a lot of weight quickly, but it will slow down the closer I get to goal. Based upon your post you have about 70 pounds to lose. Using the same formula, you should lose about 50 pounds in the first year. That means, your rate of weight loss will be slow but steady. I'm just going off of the information that my surgeon gave me. I hope that helps!
