Does anybody eat bread?
lsereno replied to alwaysonadiet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat bread daily. Often a slice of whole wheat at Breakfast or in a sandwich at lunch. I eat white bread less often, less than once per week. Sometimes I toast the bread, chop it into cubes, and have it in my salad. It's not a trigger food for me. I eat some whole grains with each meal. When it's not the bread, might be barley, oatmeal, or quinoa. Occasionally rice or Pasta. If I don't have the whole grain, I have a starchy veggies, such as sweet potato, corn, or Beans. Lynda -
2014 - Where have all the "ole-timers" gone?
lsereno replied to Happy Camper's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I get you on the skin. I don't have enough to cause a rash or interfere with anything, but it's there. Most times it doesn't bother me, but went shopping for some intimate wear and it was popping out everywhere. Sheesh! It doesn't bother me enough to have surgery though. I'm older, averse to pain and surgery and overall very happy with my look. For me, the extra skin is like a scar from a past injury: a reminder of where I've been and a warning to be careful and not do that again. And good luck on the Air Force! Lynda -

Gamer girl, looking good in that new profile pic! I will check out your blog. Those recipes look delish! Lynda -
. Watch the gas. If you are lactose intolerant, the liquid diet may affect that. I'm not surprised you're tired after the first day on the liquid diet. It's a shock to the system. Lynda

I agree. I can get away with a little of a lot of foods, but cross the line and I feel it! Sugar and bad carbs are what gets too me. Most really fat heavy foods have lost their appeal, so I rarely have a problem with them. Lynda

I love steak. Usually, hubby orders a bigger steak and we share. I eat the dinner salad, he eats the fries and it works perfect for us. Lynda

Restriction Question for the Long-Timers
lsereno replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I can eat a little more as the years go by, but not a lot. I can eat up to 4 oz. of Protein, a very small salad and 1/2 cup of a starch, such as potatoes, quinoa, or Beans. I think it was more than a year before my capacity topped out. Also, my tolerance for spicy and acidic foods continued past the one year mark. I can eat any acidic food I want. Although I used to love Margaritas and rarely drink them know. I switched to Lemon Drop Martinis. Lynda -
Long workouts and daily calorie targets?

My understanding is that berries are best for avoiding the sugar trigger in fruit. Lynda -
Holy Easter Candy Batman
lsereno replied to pinkbarbie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Picture how much of that candy is in one store, all the store in you town, your state, your country, the world. A lot right? You don't have to eat it, there will be some later when it is a better time. That's what I tell myself and it helps! Also, put on some scented lotion and lip balm.. The smooth feel and yummy smell is distracting. Lynda -
My Lunch: A Pictorial Attempt To Show You Life Will Be Normal
lsereno replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to eat the little smokie turkey sausage. About one ounce. I was very sensitive to greasy foods and couldn't tolerate regular sausage till much later. Everyone heals differently. Lynda -

Help! Ibuprofen after surgery?
lsereno replied to CoreyCan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doctor sets your guidelines. I can take Advil and Ibuprofen but I must take a PPI with them. Lynda -

Gym / Personal trainer slowing weight loss ?
lsereno replied to YummyMummy101's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I credit working with a trainer in helping me get to goal without stalls. You can always ignore their dietary ideas if they conflict with what your doc recommends. Lynda -

attention Costco shoppers... some protein finds
lsereno replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I agree Jane! I want at least a gram of Protein per 10 calories. My regular buys are the costco Rotisserie chicken, Low Fat Ham lunch meat, and the Fage 0 Greek Yogurt. Lynda -
How often do you weigh yourself?
lsereno replied to hrhlaurie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh daily. When I was in weight loss mode I only recorded my weight on Fridays. I need the daily check in to keep bad eating habits at bay. If it's higher than I want, I don't beat myself up, I just adjust my eating till I like what I see. Lynda -
Looking for long term success stories.
lsereno replied to Ageekygal's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had the sleeve on May 17, 2011. I got to goal in 9 months and have been within 5 lbs of goal since then. I do have to watch what I eat to stay at goal, but it's very do-able for me. My appetitive is much less than preop, but I could definitely eat enough crap to gain every ounce back. I agree you should look through the Vets forum to see what life with the sleeve is like at more than 1 year post op. Lynda -
Want debate? Get it here. Gripe, complain, moan, fight, rant and rave. Enter at your own risk!
lsereno replied to Bandarella's topic in Rants & Raves
haha. That is good. I usually can't bring myself to something that harsh. I simply cut off people who are not nice. If they are family, I minimize contact as much as possible. Lynda -
Kathy, Congrats on your NSV! Glad you are already feeling better after the tumble! Lynda

Hi there, You look good to me. Everyone is different and goal weight and BMI is such a personal issue! My Dr. told me that people with overweight BMI who exercised were healthier than those with normal BMI that did not. My takeaway is that my Dr. considered overweight BMI healthy enough and getting to normal BMI is a vanity goal. To me, the bigger struggle is staying at goal weight, whatever that is for you. It's so easy for weight to creep back on and a little creep over time can mean big gain down the line. Once that goal weight is set, it's important to stay there. I think we all have remnants of the fat brain, and physical reminders that we were once obese. My skin is looser than I'd like and there are flabby areas that are not going away without surgery. But overall, I'm happy with my look. My skin is not bad enough for me to want surgery. Lynda

not sure what tool you're using but the quote texture makes it clear to which specific post you are replying. Lynda

The sleeve can only take you so far with emotional eating. As time goes by you'll be able to more and more varied foods, so it's crucial to success to get a grip on it. For me, what works is exercise, emotional work (I use cognitive behavior therapy) and not keeping crap out of the house because it makes it easier to avoid bad foods if they are not in my home. Yes, I do slip up, but I climb back up and stick it out, because I'm worth it! Lynda

I pack instant oatmeal, fruit, and get individual greek yogurt cups. I carry a small cooler and fill it with a bag of ice if the room doesn't have a fridge. Earlier out, I brought my shaker cup, vanilla Protein powder and Starbucks instant Via Decaf. Makes a great room temp drink with lots of protein. I still like buffets because I can have a little bite of so many things. And usually includes the drink. So I drink a cup of coffee first, then eat a little of several protein and fruits and finish with a little grain. But I wouldn't pick a buffet on my own, that's just if I'm eating with others. Lynda
