    hiatal hernia....

I do if I eat a little too much or sometimes with something acidic. Pre-op, the only thing that gave me heartburn was margarita mix. Lynda

  3. 135 was my goal and I've been there for 14 months. I'm 5'6" and have a BMI of 21.8. There are a few others here and on obesityhelp who have similar losses and have kept it off. I followed my plan, exercising, eating low fat firm Protein first, and avoiding calorie-laden foods. My caloric intake now is around 1200-1500 calories per day and I exercise (moderate paced walk) for an hour four days per week. You can do it! Lynda

    How do you handle PMs?

I'm looking forward to seeing a FAQ section that can be provided as a link for quick answers. Sometimes I spend a lot of time digging for something I saw two years ago that someone is asking about again. New community, that sounds a bit scary but I'm open! Lynda
  5. I used the same technique I used for Water to get the Protein drinks down. If you use the powder, you can mix it with a little less water. The Slimfast is 10 ounces for 20 grams of protein. I used unjury chicken, which is 20 grams per scoop and mixed it with 6 oz. water. Within a few days, I was able to tolerate GNC Gold Standard Whey Protein Powder, which has 24 grams per scoop. I mixed it with Soy Milk, which brought it to a total of 33 grams of protein for one cup. Lynda

What to wear to the hosptial?

I wore a gown, robe and slippers home. I didn't want anything around my stomach, even stretchy pants or underwear. Agree with the chapstick. I also brought a small tube of lotion, my phone and my phone charger. Lynda

Soy Latte 9 an.m.: 1/4 cup oatmeal with 1/2 cup Water, 1/4 cup chopped strawberries, a splash of soy and Splenda to taste, 2 oz. lowfat ham Noon: Bite of all each of the meat and dairy samples at costco, 1/2 cup melon after we got home 4 p.m.: drinks and dinner out, 2 Lemon Drops 5 p.m.: Carne Asada Taco, chicken Taco, left almost all the tortillas and ate the guts. 8. I bought a bracelet in a regular size, a pair of knee high boots, and a really cute outfit that went with the boots and bracelet. And then I bought a couple of belts too. It's your goal: make yourself happy. But do remember that happiness is what makes you happy in the long run. For example, I might be very happy eating a crapload of ice cream today, but tomorrow, not so much. Congrats on leaving the losers' bench behind and taking a seat on the goalies bench! Lynda
  9. I don't give a hoot what anyone else thinks of the path I chose. If they care for me, they are happy I am at a healthy weight now after years of struggling. If they don't care for me, what difference does it make to them what I do? For me it was the only way out, besides that dirt nap that was increasingly scaring me the longer I stayed morbidly obese. The call it morbidly for a reason. Lynda

    Unsupportive PCP?

Glad you are ditching the doc. Not everyone is happy with weight loss surgery, some people do gain all the weight back, and there is a risk of complications, even death, but it is your decision to make, not your PCPs. For me, the benefits outweighed (haha!) the risks. I am sure that some doctors are in it for the money and that some do a poor job of preparing patients for the surgery or following up, but many more truly care about their patients and offer terrific prep and follow up. I've been very happy with Kaiser Fremont's Bariatric program. Lynda

Items that Swell in your Stomach?

Starchy foods are the only ones that I noticed. I'm two years out and one of the only foods I still don't tolerate well is tortillas. It was months before I could eat starches other than very well toasted whole grain bread and a couple of saltine crackers. Almost anything starchy got me including potatoes, rice, Pasta, bread, and Cereal. I didn't eat popcorn for quite a few months and when I did I started small. It's a slider food for me now so I avoid it most of the time. Lynda

    Night snacking!

Yeah! Glad to hear it! Lynda
  14. I used a shot glass, a measuring cup and a clock to get my fluids in for the first few days. I drank one ounce every 15 minutes. Teeny sips all 15 minutes. It works out to 8 oz. every two hours and will get you very close to the recommended amount. I counted Protein shakes in my fluids. Do get up and walk every couple of hours too. Just around the house is good. Be kind to yourself. It's major surgery even though the incisions look small on the outside. Lynda
  15. Hi Ddily, Another thing you might try is going back to the previous stage diet for a few days till things settle down. Then add foods back in one at a time and see which one, if any causes an issue. I had to go back to a previous stage a couple of times when I was reintroducing foods. If you were lactose intolerant post-op, it should have showed up the first time you had dairy instead of more than a month later. Are you eating more dairy now than you were previously? Lynda
  16. I'm two years post-op and have been at goal for 15 months. I always swore if I managed to get to goal on WW again, I was going to teach after so I would stay at goal. I stay active on this forum to help me keep myself at goal and to help others. Lynda

    Gym 2 weeks post op

I was only cleared for walking for the first six weeks. After that, I got the go ahead to resume strength training, but I was advised to avoid abdominal exercises for another month or so. Lynda

What did you eat today :) ?

2 years out, 14 months at goal weight 8 a.m.: 12 oz. Soy Latte 9 a.m.: 2 oz. 98% fat free ham, 1 slice whole grain bread, 1 large apricot noon: lunch at a restaurant: 1/2 large dill pickle, 1/2 Club Sandwich with turkey, avocado, bacon. lettuce and tomato on white bread (removed middle piece of bread and didn't eat the crusts and edges of the remaining bread) 1/3 cup fruit 3 p.m.: 2 graham crackers, 2 T. Peanut Butter 5:30 p.m.: 1/4 dill pickle, guts of the remaining 1/4 club sandwich with a slice of low fat cheese and 1 slice 98% fat free ham on 1 slice whole wheat bread (hubby ate the other 1/4 sandwich) 7:00 p.m. graham cracker and 1 small apricot Before bed I will have a small snack (under 200 calories)
  19. I agree with Melissa. Seeing a counselor is key to your success. Instead of focusing on juice, eat healthy. Solid Protein first. If you do, you will not have room for the bad stuff yet. Almost any restaurant will have something you can eat. Just modify it. Even a hamburger joint. Just eat the meat. Order an iced tea and sweeten with Splenda. Have the Soup if it is not cream-based. If you do nothing else, walk. Walking 30 minutes a day in the morning can help you focus on yourself. You deserve this time alone! Lynda

question for foodies at least months post op

I'm two years out and I enjoy a wide variety of foods and drink. I live in the SF Bay Area, which is foodie heaven. It took me longer than some to be able to enjoy bread, spicy foods, and acidic foods but I'm all in now. Lynda
  21. Here are some links to guides that I have saved from this forum over the years: The Cornell Weight Loss Surgery Program: Dietary Guidelines for Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy http://www.cornellwe...gastrectomy.pdf Institute for Advanced Bariatric Surgery: Preparatory Surgery Guide http://www.laplose.c...urgeryGuide.pdf Institute for Advanced Bariatric Surgery: Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery Diet Guide http://www.laplose.c...veDietGuide.pdf Northwest Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery: Laproscopic Gastric Sleeve Diet http://www.northwest...ectomy-diet.pdf Kaiser Fremont Bariatric Program Guide (this is my program's guide and it covers VSG and other WLS) http://mydoctor.kais...rics/binder.jsp Not sure this will work, but if it does, the first link is an guide from Dr. Criangle that was provided by another poster and the second is the Cornell guide, which I've also provided a weblink for above. Foodie question

Well if you want to make your own, eggface has a ton of WLS friendly recipes: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2011/09/national-pancake-day.html For me, it's not worth it to bother cooking them. Lynda

    Unapologetic Brag Post

    Congrats! You look fabulous! Lynda
  24. I love sweets too. I get my sugar fix by using Splenda to sweeten my non-fat greek yogurt. One of my fav ways to have it is topped with blueberries sweetened with Splenda. I also like a shake made of fat free greek yogurt, splash of OJ, couple of frozen strawberries, bigger splash of Water, and Splenda. Other sweet treats that don't dent the diet include sugarfree hot apple cider mix, diet lipton green tea with citrus, soy milk heated with a splash of Torini caramel syrup (also good with skim milk but I'm lactose intolerant post-op). Early out, the Protein shakes satisfied my sweet tooth. My fav was GNC's Optimum Nutrition 100% whey Gold Standard in French vanilla Creme. Lynda
