    April Bandsters!

I can't seem to get much jello down. I will eat about 1/2 of one of the little cups and then either one of my kids gets the rest of my dog. My dog loves the stuff. I was really really hungry and suppose to be on only liquids, but I ate some really soft mashed potato's yesterday and I slept better because my tummy wasn't making all the grawling sounds.
  2. I had UHC and had to do the 6 months Dr. supervised weightloss program.

    Lapband And Diabetes

I was just banded on April 26th and so far I haven't taken any insulin since the Monday before my surgery. I check my sugar several times a days and so far I haven't needed any medication. Now I am still on the liquid diet of mostly protein shakes and broth and soup. I too am hoping that the lapband along with losing weight will either stop my diabetes or slow it down.

    Had No Idea

I was banded on April 26 also. I have done alright with the gas pain. It really hasn't been that bad and the few times that it did bother me, I just took several gas-x strips and that really did help. I so seem to have a lot of port area pain. Yesterday I took my pain meds in the morning when I got up and had planned on not taking any more unless absolute necessary. Then I went to walmart shopping with my husband and decided to push the shopping cart....(BAD IDEA) I had to take pain meds after that trip. I fell like I am taking to much pain meds. I am on liquid lortab 7.5/500, and I am on my 3rd bottle of the stuff.

    Day 3 Of Surgery

Www.unjury.com this is where you can get unflavored protein powder. It has 20grams of protein. I added it to cream chicken soup.

    April Bandsters!

I am feeling much better today. I have managed to keep everything down. The only pain I am having is when I get up from sitting or laying, and then again when I try to lie down or roll over. The gas is going away. I am very groggy from the pain meds. I am hoping to take a shower later today when my husband gets home. I want to take it now, but dont want to since I am home alone. Yesterday I walked 2 blocks before it got dark out, and I think that helped with the gas.

    April Bandsters!

I am home from the hospital again for the 2nd time. They removed 3cc from my band. I couldn't even get water down. I found out on the very first night of being banded what it feels like to be "stuck" and it is not pleasant. I couldn't even get my pain meds down. The reason they had to remove the fluid from my band surgically was because of the band just having been put into place yesterday. It would have been to had on me for them to do it the normal way with all the swelling and soreness from the surgery yesterday. I am home. Took some pain meds and took a nap. I was able to drink about 1/3 of a protein shake and been eating Sonic Ice. I go back to the Dr. in 2 weeks.

    April Bandsters!

Got banded yesterday, all went well not too much pain, did alot of walking. Woke up 3:25 this morning needing pain meds, took then an hour later started throwing up. Called Dr. now back at the hospital, xray was good. Getting ready for surgery to remove fluid from port. Too tight for even water to get thru.
  9. I have been pretty open about getting banded. The church prayed over me this past Sunday. I figure the more people that know will be more motivation for me to do well.
  10. I know its been almost a week on the liquid diet and I am not starving anymore. I do get hungry, but the protein shakes and broth seem to be enough. for now

    Just A Few Questions

I did my 6 months weightloss in 2009 and 2010, but was not able to get approved for the lapband until recently. Having my surgery this Thursday. I didn't have to redo my supervised weightloss or anything else that my insurance required. The surgons office just submitted all my info and that was that. 5 years of recorded weights from last 5 years doctors visits - 2006 to 2011 record of 6 months physician assisted weightloss - 2009 - 2010 psyc eval - May of 2011 sleep Study - June of 2011 Seminar - 2010 dietitian - May of 2011 Letter from PCP was my hold up, because she moved suddenly. My surgeons office tracted her down to get the letter. Then in March 2012 I got the call saying I had been approved. I had all but given up hope of getting banded and was once again taking diet pills and tryin to lose the weight on my own. Now I am scheduled for April 26, 2012. I will be doing my pre-admit tomorrow morning..................
  12. Singular comes in a chewable. If you cant swallow it just get you Dr to write the scrip for the chewables next time. They are mostly given to children, but the Dr. I worked for would also give them to older patients. I have used them at times and they seem to work quicker.

    April Bandsters!

I had the visit from aunt flow last week, so I dont think that is it. 2 more days till my surgery and I can't finish my protein shakes now. I dont know if my liver has shrunk, but I think my stomach has.
  14. I have been reading the pre-op diets that everyone is on. I am also on a 1 week liquid diet to shrink my liver. The thing is: I worked for a weightloss clinic for 2 years and the Dr. there always said to start off a diet getting 70grams to 100grams of lean Protein to get your liver to dump all the fat and boost your weightloss. I have done this several times in the past and always loose 10 or 15lbs in a couple of weeks. So I think some Drs. put us on the liquid diets just to get us ready for what is ahead after surgery. This is there way of seeing if we will comply to the dietary changes necessary for living and loosing with the lapband. GETTING BANDED THIS THURSDAY!!!!!!!HOORAY HOORAY I AM ON MY WAY....TO A BRAND NEW BANDED ME.
  15. I got a chuckle out of the "lunch lady arms." I have heard, but not yet tryed it out myself in recent years that Water arobics is a great way to tone without lifting weights. I have been thinking about doing that, but for some reason I cant find a class with younger under 70 members. I am 41 and dont like seeing those old timers kickin my butt at exercise.

    April Bandsters!

I started my pre-op diet on the 19th and up till yesterday I was down 6lbs. But now today I am up 3lbs......go figure. I feel somewhat bloated from all this liquid. Seems like the broths all have alot of sodium, they taste very salty to me. Surgery on Thursday!!!!!!!!!!

    April Bandsters!

All of that driving is on Mondays. Except for driving kids to school and back. I dont really have anyone close enough to our home that can drive the girls any where. I live 10miles out in the boonies. I have been talking to my husband about having his adult daughter come stay with me for a few days (if she can leave all her drama somewhere else). I almost feel like I will be able to do the driving much more than I can handle stepdaughters drama.

    Crying During Preop Diet...anyone?

I got sick to my stomach earlier today from smelling the lunch my husband fixed for our twins. I had to go to my room to get away from the smell. I didn't mind the time alone, because I dont get it much with 4 girls from 14 to 5 in my home, a husband whom is home from working out of town and a puppy. I layed in bed and watched a complete movie. (never happens) Next time you are feeling left out or lonely........go take a nice long warm good smelling bath. Leave your husband and son to wonder where you are...

    April Bandsters!

I have been reading all the post from April bandsters, and love all the information about things to have on hand after surgery and so on. The day 3 post-op that seems to be getting everyone does worry me, that is the day my husband has to fly back to his job 900 miles from home. If I am not doing well, he will not want to go, and he is in the closing of his project. I will have a 14 and 13 year old girls here to help with my 5 year old twin girls. Just hope I am ready for all the driving to and from school, cheerleading practice, guitar lessons and gymnastic.............If not I will be in big trouble. (praying for a smooth recovery)

    Starving

I haven't been so bad today. I've had 3 protein shakes several bottles of water and 2 glasses of unsweet tea. I ate about 5 bits of baked chicken. I am still having a hard time with my blood sugar, still over 220. The protein shakes have 68gms. of protein, so I know I am getting enough protein. I think I am just feeling bad because of my blood sugar being high. I have been on insulin for over a year and have gotten used to my fasting blood sugars to be around 120, so when they got back in the upper 200's I just couldn't seem to wake up good.

    April Bandsters!

Been on the pre-op diet for 3 days now. 1st day not so bad. 2nd day I was starving. Today is the 3rd day and not starving, but have no energy today. So far today I have had 1 protein shake, 1 cup of broth, and a bottle of water. I was told by the Dr. to stop my insulin when I started the pre-op diet because he thought my blood sugar would drop to low, well I havn't had my insulin in 3 days and my blood sugar is really high. I dont really understand this, since I am on a Sugar Free diet the only carbs is in the protein shake (12g) each.

    Waiting Waiting Waiting

I will just say this from the Drs. office. When I worked for an MD and had a patient constantly call and call and call they got put to the bottom of the pile out of spite for the constant irritation. Just Saying a patient Patient gets things much quicker than a demanding patient. Things will happen for you. I know you are wanting this to be done already, but if they do a quicky review just to pass you thru something important could be missed, and it could be something that could cause you complications in the future. I had given up getting the lapband done, and then out of the blue I get the call that they were able to get my PCP letter (which was holding me back. PCP moved away and no one else would write the letter) and that my insurance had approved me. Now I am scheduled for April 26th. Please Be a Patient Patient...
