Tonight I made a pretty delicious Soup since I can have pureed foods. Here's the recipe: 1 can of Healthy Choice Heart Healthy Soup Tomato Basil flavor 1 can of Meijer Premium Chunk White chicken 98% fat free packed in Water 1 scoop Optimum Nutrition Any whey unflavored Protein powder Mix altogether and puree. Heat if desired (but not over 130 degrees otherwise the Protein Powder denatures). The entire recipe yields slightly more than 16 ounces (but not more than 16.5 ounces - it was kind of hard to tell the exact ounces in my measuring cup, so I just chose to calculate based on 16 ounces). Calories: 470 Protein: 51 g Carbs: 57 g Fat: 3g Now, being I can only eat about 4 ounces at a time, I chose to break it out by the ounce as well. So if your serving size is 4 ounces, you can multiply these numbers by 4 (or divide the above by 4 I suppose - didn't think of that before). Per 1 ounce serving: Calories: 29 Protein: 3 g Carbs: 4 g Fat: 0 g I know it's high in carbs for some of you, but it was still good. The carbs are entirely from the tomato soup.

This is why my surgeon and dietician recommend weighing only once per week - not every day. On a daily basis your weight will fluctuate for a variety of reasons. All that will happen is frustration at the scale. Weigh yourself once per week and you won't get as frustrated with the scale. A true stall is one that lasts a couple of weeks with no weight loss or inches lost. You're not in a stall yet. Your body is still adjusting to the surgery.

All of a sudden about an hour ago, 3 of my 5 incisions started itching like crazy. I realize it's part of the healing process, and I should not scratch them, but dang it's hard not to. My incisions just had some "glue" put over top of them to seal them - so there were no bandages/tape. One does leak a little - but it's not bad like a drop here or there of blood, but it happened in the hospital and I was told that I shouldn't worry about it unless it turned like pus or yellow. How did everyone deal with the itching? It is so tough not to scratch, but I don't want to because it could open them up more.

Hair Loss - WTF!!??
Nancy Rivers replied to warrior68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hair loss is a NORMAL occurrence after VSG surgery occurring around months 3 to 6. It is temporary and will eventually re-grow. -
Well, I told myself that I would only weigh in on Tuesdays - but when I woke up this morning I just *had* to weigh myself. On Tuesday morning I weighed 279.6. This morning: 271.8!!!! I have lost 7.8 pounds so far this week! I guess that diarrhea was worth it... LOL

Itching has started
Nancy Rivers replied to Nancy Rivers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I lightly washed them and then let them air dry - that has seemed to stop the itching for the moment. When I left the hospital, I was given a pack of 8 throw-away pre-moistened towels that could be used for "bathing" - so I used one of those. I don't know if that will work in the future or not, but it seemed to help tonight. When I was in the hospital, I had asked the surgeon about using something on the incisions and he told me not to. -
Congratulations - sounds like you are doing great!

Shopping list before surgery
Nancy Rivers replied to Eyemallrt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's office has given me a lot of the details. For example, I received at my pre-op teaching appointment (2 weeks before surgery) a folder with about 30 pages in it giving sample menus, timetables for taking Vitamins, shopping list of things to have for after surgery, etc. They also made me purchase my first supply of vitamins and Calcium at that time. You're tastes will change after the surgery, so I wouldn't stock up on a lot of things. Before surgery, I really liked Protein shakes, now those same shakes don't taste as good to me. -
Initial consultation
Nancy Rivers replied to lovePINK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Typically the initial consultation, they take a medical history and the surgeon discusses the options and which surgery you might want and why and then discuss what he/she feels is the best option for you. I also had my first appointment with the dietician at the same time - she covered some of the basics of the food plan and explained about taking vitamins for the rest of your life. I kind of got the impression they wanted to see if I would be committed to the new lifestyle. -
I had more of a heavy feeling in that area. Once I passed gas, then the feeling started to decrease and is now gone.

Tomorrow is my big day!!!
Nancy Rivers replied to Heather~ Sweetdreams's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was really tired until day 3 when I could have "full liquids and pureed food". As soon as I started eating something pureed, I started feeling a whole lot better and more awake. I do have a bit of pain on the left side - right around the incision that looks the worst - but it's not intense. It bothered me in the hospital right after I woke up, but then they gave me some pain medication and I didn't feel it anymore. Since being released, I haven't had any pain medication and today it has started "tingling" a bit - especially when I have a bowel movement (I also had diarrhea hit again today). I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse. -
Happy birthday! The pre-op diet will get easier - days 3 to 5 were the worst for me, but then it was a "breeze". By the way, we are the same age - I turned 38 in April.

Congratulations fat2skinnymom! That's awesome weight loss! I did start getting the pain in the left shoulder from the gas. What I did was start exercising my arms - lifting them up above my head, doing rotations, crossing arms, etc and it really helped with the pain. In fact, once I did that, I didn't have the pain in the left shoulder anymore.

Miss my Ibruprofen!!
Nancy Rivers replied to stilloozen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said I could continue to use my Excedrin Migraine (an NSAID) immediately after surgery if I needed it. I only take it when I get pretty bad migraines, but I am glad that I don't have to find something else. I'd talk to your surgeon and see if he may have some suggestion. -
Sleeved and more confused than ever!
Nancy Rivers replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, that would be due to the swelling and fluids from the hospital. It happens to everyone. That's one reason why I'm not weighing myself until Tuesday - one week out. By the way, congratulations on getting your sleeve!
