  1. Hi Slim Missy,

I know what you mean. I never really knew it was going to be this difficult to only maintain. Now I'm up to 171. Ugh!! Trying really hard to get back to 163. That will still be 70 pounds off. How are you eating? Still alot of Protein? I try mostly to do that. Of course the carbs creep in. More than they should. I'm still having trouble with Constipation. Lol . Sorry being so personal. Any suggestions? I used Miralax for a long time then it just stopped working.

  2. My wife and I had plication in March and have had lost some weight but yesterday we ended up in the emergency room because my wife was having bad stomach pain. After a CT and an ultrasound, it shows a large herniated sac full of Fluid hanging off her placated stomach. They are doing emergency surgery right now. They are concerned about necrosis ( dying of the stomach). I'm so scared! I'll let u know what they find.

For about 3 weeks she was having what she thought was heartburn. She called the OCC a few times and they told her this was natural. Then came stomach pains so we went to our local ER. They had never heard of the surgery. They did a CT and said everything looked fine and sent her home. Next day the pain was not getting better so we went back. Again, no help. I called around to find the closest bariatric surgeon in the area. Once we got there by ambulance, they looked at the CT that was done and opened her up within an hour and performed the operation. She is doing better this morning but her heart rate is still very high and they are monitoring her organs closely. Anyone who has had this surgery needs to have a plan of where to go if this were to happen to u. They said she was hours from dying even though she was conscience, walking, and feeling ok because of the Meds she was on. Once the stomach starts dying, toxins flush into the cavity and kill all the organs. God bless

Wow! That is so scarey!! It especially caught my interest because I have been having pain also. The pain is on my left side just under my ribcage. Where was your wife's pain? Did it actually feel like heart burn or just a pain? Does certain food trigger the pain? I wonder if I should get my pain checked out. I'm 2 years out and started having this pain about 1 month ago.

  3. I had my surgery done in Mexico. I agree with tobethin30. It has been a tremdous help, this website and also obesityhelp.com Talking to others about our similar experience is so helpful. While there isn't a forum on obesityhelp.com for us plicationers, there is one for vertical sleevers. Our surgeries are so similar with the same way of eating. (Don't say that on that website though. They tend to get a little uppity about it and insist our surgeries are so different. Even had one act angry with me that I said they were similar. Oh well. You ignore the stupid people. After my surgery in Mexico I didn't feel lost or on my own. I went to a local support group for several months. While nobody had my surgery, we all have the same eating and emotional issues.

  4. I guess I'm an old timer. It will be 2 years next month. Going well. Been maintaing almost at goal weight for about 8 months. Never did get to goal weight. I'm 12 lbs away but have come to accept it. My body likes where its at. I lost 70 lbs. I've relaxed when it comes to eating. I usually start out my day with a piece of toast or grape nuts. I still eat a lot less than I did before surgery. I go up and down within 3 lbs. (160-163) I still try to eat complex carbs and Protein. I think I could go down a little if I got strict on protein again. Anybody else an "Old timer?" How are you doing?

  5. I also had the plication in July of 2010. Coming up on 2 years now. I got down to 10 lbs away from my goal. Went up a couple and stay between 160-163. (My ultimate goal is 150.) It takes constant daily work to keep this weight off. I can never let my guard down. Don't go into this surgery thinking once you have the weight off its easy then. It is very difficult to stay on track. Don't get me wrong, I am very very glad I had the surgery and would do it a hundred times over. It just takes alot of work. Learn good new eating habits while you are losing. When you are maintaining those habits will be in place.

  6. Basically that's what I was told by someone that had a sleeve. In posts that I have made on another forum, I have referred to my surgery as the sleeve or plication. I do that simply because not everyone has heard of the plication but they have heard of the sleeve. Wow! Some people sure are sensitive. Does it really matter what I call it? I know they are different surgeries but with the same outcome.

  7. I had the same Dr. as you and would be very interested as to what his answer would be regarding this issue. Maybe I'll try to get ahold

    of him myself.

Yes, you mean interrupted stitches. If one goes it won't affect the others.

I quoted Dr Watkins post from verticalsleevetalk here http://www.verticals...291-gps-update/ (the part on stitched is at the start of his 2nd paragraph).

I'd love to know what my doc used but I tried calling Angeles Health and they weren't answering and I called during the working day local time!! angry.gif

  8. Sounds like you're doing fantastic. The walk/run thing sounds like it's working for you. Maybe I'll try that.

Quick update. Don't remember to get on here much anymore.

Had surgery June 6, 2011. To date, I've lost 87 lbs. According to the BMI charts in the doctors office, I need to lose ~ 52 lbs to be "normal" BMI range.

For me to be happy, I'd still like to lose ~25-30 more lbs. It's gotten harder to lose, but I also gave up on getting up 2.5 hours before work to exercise. Haven't replace that weight training/exercise, and it's slowed my weight loss down. I've got to find something to replace that with, or develop a routine at home.

I'm back to walking again 5-6 days a week. Also still trying to train to run when I can. I'm up to 5 minutes running, 2.5 walk, 3 minutes running, 1.5 walk x2. Start a new week this week. The third run this week is 20 min running. Not sure how that will work out. Might have to repeat a week.

My weight loss of late has been slow, but clothes sizes are slowly dropping. I've gone from wearing a 3XL mens shirt to a L, depending on the manufacturer. They all seem to have some different body size in mind when they make stuff.

Hope all the "old" plication patients are well. Hope all you new ones do well. :)

    Take care.

  9. Hey, its been a while since I've checked in. Since the last time I've gone only a few more lbs. Got down to 159. Struggling to stay there. Today I'm 163. I seem to hover around 161-162. I still have dreams to get to 150 but I don't think its going to happen. I wake up every day with fresh determination to do really good and seem to only barely maintain. Overall I am happy to be where I am. I went from a size 24 to a 12. I wear size medium and look pretty good. My dh and I are going to Orlando in a couple ofweeks and for the first time in my life will feel sort of attractive. White legs and all. Lol. (I got a spray tan to at least look a little tan.) What about you guys? How's it going for you?

  10. IF I HEAR SOMEONE SAY THAT ONE MORE TIME, I AM GOING TO SCREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAMMMMM!!! Why do these people assume they know what its like to go through 30 years of trying to lose weight., a hundred different ways. Then finally we find something to help us finally lose our weight. The easy way out?!?!?!?!?!? You gotta be kidding me. I've never worked so hard to lose and keep my weight in my life!!!!! Who needs friends like that?? I sure don't.
