About Me

I am 38 years old and finally realized after looking at some pictures from over the holidays that things have to change. Both of my parents were diabetics and both died at young ages. My Mom at 50 (in 2002) and my Dad 4 days shy of his 61st birthday (in 2009). Both from Sepsis while in the hospital due to obesity related conditions. My Mom with vein replacement surgery for poor circulation from the Diabetes and my dad was in the hospital for a Heart Valve replacement due to many years of high cholesterol and triglicerides near 600......

I have a 19 year old daughter that I don't want to leave motherless at a young age if I have anything to say about it!

Both of my sisters have had the RNY done back in 2002 not too long after my Mom passed away. I said no, I can do this on my own! Well I was wrong.

I have tried the diets and lost then gained back just like the rest of us out there struggling with their weight throughout their life.

Now I'm at my wits end though. I was just diagnosed with diabetes in January of this year (pre diabetic many years), I have high BP, High Cholesterol and mobility problems due not only to my weight but an auto accident from 2001 that has caused me to have neck and back surgery.

I have chosen to have the sleeve done over the RNY because I have seen what my sisters have gone through and still struggle with every day from their surgeries. And one of them eats just like a normal person again and has gained back almost all of her weight and the other one is not that far behind. It scares me. The thought of having this surgery and then failing.

The profile picture I posted on here was from Thanksgiving time in 2010 when I weighed in at 297 pounds (just shy of my all time high of 308). My daughter told me this was such a good picture of me...... all I see is a fat blob and wonder how I let myself get this way.

I look forward to posting after pics once I am able to get the surgery done, because I am going to be successful at making the lifestyle changes that are needed to go hand in hand with this surgery to be a healthier me!

I just know I am going to need the support of this group ) :D
