  1. Congrats, Heather!!! The steri strips are supposed to stay on a week to 10 days (as I recall). Don't pull them off....let them fall off on their own. If they do fall off before then, cover the incision with a bandaid and change it a couple times a day. You should start feeling MUCH better by the end of the weekend. It's like you wake up one day and like a miracle happened overnight. Your port will continue to be sore for 3-4 weeks, so don't worry about that. I don't think there's a problem with chugging water....it's that most people CAN'T chug water. I don't think you have to sip like a baby anymore...just regular type drinks...but NOT 10 oz. at a time!! LOL I think there's a happy medium in there somewhere!
  2. Good Morning! Denise - Judy nailed it. When i read your post something struck me funny too but I couldn't put my finger on it. I'm a big believer in listening to our self-talk....and how that in turn creates our reality. Turn these events into challenges for yourself...goals you can meet and be excited about! CHOOSE healthy foods. CHOOSE to get at least 2 hours of exercise this weekend. Leave the victim mentality in the dust and get on with the business of working that band, girl!! Amen and Amen. Josie - Hope you can enjoy some of that BBQ! I've been wanting some for the longest time but all of those foods give me trouble so I've stayed away. How's your restriction this week? Getting better? Will you be able to have some BBQ? HEY!! I like your "inches lost last month" idea in your signature!! I'm gonna have to find about 6 more places to measure before I start doing that! Judy I guess you hate to see the summer leave! Although I'd give just about anything to have it be 47 degrees outside right now. We won't see those kinds of temps until November!!!....and those will be our morning lows! Oy! Tracy - Are you going to be able to relax a little this weekend? I hope so. It's gonna be a crazy day for me today. Lots going on with the kids....although they are fast asleep right now! My son's 17th birthday is today so I'm off to make him breakfast in bed...his favorite: French Toast and bacon. I'll make it extra gooey and stacked high today! He's 5'11" and weighs 148#....although he's had a weight problem his whole life too. He shot up 6" in one year and then got put on ADHD meds (a stimulant) so he's skinny as a rail. He still sees himself as being fat, though. Hmmm. Sounds familiar.
  3. Well, the difference for me is that I'm starting to be able to eat ANYTHING and I'm taking pretty big bites (relatively). I'm heading in for a fill on Wednesday. Someone told me that Brenda said, "If you can eat bread you need a fill." I can eat bread.
  4. It didn't.:ohwell: Ooooooooooo!! Thanks for the idea!! I like that!! :lock1:<---- Isn't this the stupidest "smilie" EVER??? A dancing lock? Why would you ever need this?? Someone explain. Tracy -- So glad you're back!! WTG on not gaining anything! Musta been the stress that kept your motor running! Sorry the vacation bombed out. Next year leave the kids at home. HA!
  5. It's unfortunate that you're so upset...but you should have made it very clear to the people that you did tell that you want it to be kept a private matter and you will tell who you WANT to tell in your own time. Oh well, it's not the end of the world! Don't let it mess up your recovery and this exciting time in your life!
  6. I've lived on the west side my whole life. If my office was there I'd live in Sugar Land. Great quality of life there (comparitively speaking). San Antonio is great too, but they are having some growing pains!
  7. I thought of ANOTHER one today!! (I need to re-do my list and put them all in one post!!) My memory is better!! I'm sharper and more alert....and I seem to need less sleep! I suppose this is from exercising...but who cares! Or maybe my whole outlook is just better. Doesn't matter...I'll take it however it comes!! Nana -- I look forward to your regular posts! They'll be coming fast and furious very soon. Ross - You're hilarious! Where's the B&A pics???
  8. Interesting topic this morning, Girliez. Friday is the day where I 'officially' record my weight for the week. Today AGAIN it was 190. That's 4 weeks in a row. Sorry, but there is NO freakin' way I can weigh less often than once/day...I have to adjust my attitude some other way. MsJen, my BF% monitor thingy is 12 points higher than the charts, too. Ok, so I look at it this way: "Oh well!" I mean, look...I'm getting a minimum of a 1000 calorie deficit every day and I'm working out at a reasonable level. This is THE prescription for losing weight and better health regardless of what the scale says. There is no other prescription! SO, I will just keep doing what I'm doing and TRUST that I'm not some freak of nature...and IN TIME the results will come. PATIENCE and TRUST....oh yeah, and regular fills. LOL! Got one scheduled for Wednesday! Josie - That is incredibly sweet of you to entertain the staff from your kennel!! Wow! Your babies will be ensured of royal treatment if you keep that up! Does a girl from NY know how to properly BBQ??? Hey, wanna have lunch next week? I'm going swimming on my lunch break today to see how that works out as far as timing. If I do weights or cardio I keep sweating long after my shower and it's gross getting re-dressed & putting on makeup. I'm going to try swimming to see if that cuts down on the sweating. It should!
  9. Well, as long as it doesn't have anything to do with corrugated cardboard I'm willing to give it a whirl.
  10. OR.....she was pregnant when she snared him. Something's fishy.
  11. Oh, that IS exciting!!! Good for you!!!!!!!!!
  12. I'm a native Houstonian and 4th generation Texan!! What part of Houston is the office in? We have a great cost of living here and Texas people are some of the nicest around. The problem is, only one in 50 is from here! LOL Anyway, I love it here in Texas, but Houston itself is getting to me in my old age. I long for the day to move away from here and get out to the countryside. BUT, it has much to offer (everything really) that you could possibly want from a city. The rush hour traffic is horrible. I hope that your husband's office is in the suburbs!
  13. Hmmmm....the lickbox. Interesting. My trainer is moving to Lifetime...over on the North side, in Champions area. I wonder if all their trainers are ACE certified? They pay their trainers almost 3x what LA Fitness does. Obviously they value them! I like LA Fitness for the machines, pool, R-ball courts, etc....but they don't deliver on a lot of their promises made at the outset. Yuck. Michelle....darling. It's time for a fill. You'll be good as gold later on. You can't drop all that weight and then expect it to keep going at that pace. You're obviously going to be one who drops in "chunks". That's what I'm telling myself I am doing too. It is what it is and we just have to keep moving in the same direction: forward. We'll get there! Look at Kat!! Hey, WHERE is Kat???
  14. Yes, curious people are dying to know. There must be some hidden message or it's a terrorist code of some sort. As for the ON topic topic.... I still think the band is worth 1,000 PB's. Fortunately it doesn't happen to me very much anymore...got over the peak of that learning curve a while back.
  15. Josie -- 194!! That's a brand spanking new number isn't it??? Well, that just made my day!! Thank you for the encouragement. I was so stunned I didn't think to ask him who he recommends but I will see him again twice before he leaves so will ask him to introduce me. I was just so bummed. What gym do you go to again?
  16. If I have to miss for some reason I start to feel a little panicky. As if I"m going to gain 10# from missing a couple of days at the gym. I have to stop myself from getting in a tizzy over it and remind myself that no matter what, I'm still doing 100,000% better at exercise than I was in the old days. But that fear keeps me going back. I have to be honest and say that this past couple of weeks I have had to "make" myself go...but I was prepared for that....it's happened before. I know from experience that once I get there I'm fine so I just put one foot in front of the other until I walk thru the door. Then, even if I am not 100% and want to cut my workout a little short, I allow myself to do that. I usually make up for it on the weekends.
  17. Hi Josie!! I am not having a good day. My trainer told me last night he is moving to another gym on the other side of town. There's no way that any of the other trainers can compare to Rory. I am soooooo sad . Pfffffffffft. Yucky day here in H-town.
  18. I was confused on what I should be doing for cardio, but I think I understand now. I've been at the gym for about 4 months now. At the beginning I was told not to go above a heart rate of 125...just slow and steady. Then after awhile I was told "I should bump up my cardio"...then told to add interval training....I was getting confused!! You might be too. I found this article that I thought was very good at explaining it ALL! High Intensity Interval Training
  19. Weren't you also denied by your insurance carrier like 3 or 4 times??? I'm tellin' ya...nobody deserves it more!! Congratulations!
  20. I think that it is inevitable that at some point you will PB, slime or get stuck...but it probably won't be anytime soon. When you first start on solids I'm sure you'll be like me...I remember my first solid meal of fish and canned green Beans..... I took miniscule bites and chewed the h*ll out of it. It took me 45 minutes to eat about 1.5 oz of fish and 5 green beans! LOL Once you stick your toe in the Water like that and you realize you're not gonna die, every day gets easier. You'll be just fine. The one day you'll be extra hungry because you've waited too long to eat, or you're out with friends chatting and eating and not paying attention....and right away you'll realize you've taken too big of a bite. It happens to everyone sooner or later....and it's not a big deal....it's just not much fun. Just remember these five things: 1) stop eating 2) don't drink anything 3) if you start feeling the saliva (slime) at the back of your throat, go find some place to spit it out....don't keep swallowing it 4) relax 5) breathe You will not choke and you will be able to breathe just fine. All of us who have been banded still love our bands....I don't think we'd be so in love if it was a tortuous thing, do you?
  21. Yeah, I've been thinking of getting some new exercise clothes too. I'm tired of these ugly big ol' T-shirts and long black leggings. It's HOT too. I am very sad tonight My trainer told me that he's moving gyms to the other side of town. This upsets me to no end. He's such a great trainer and we've become friends. BUT, I can't blame him. He's getting twice the money, half the hours, full benefits and he's 5 minute from home. Sigh. Nobody will be as good as Rory.
  22. Well, thank you CMP! Honestly, I think it 's the camera lens :tired...it was taken with my iPhone and it has a wierd lens on it. Oh well...I'll take it if it makes me look skinnier!
  23. I'm happy in Texas, too!! Especially when this dang heat goes away!!
  24. Pamela - Be careful what you wish for! Sara - Sorry you're not feeling so good I don't miss those days, but I do still like to hunker down under a nice quilt!!...any excuse will do. Hope you feel better. HQ in the heart of London, eh? That'll be a fun trip. Why don't you take a day off to do some shopping while you're there? Buy a wonderful indulgent purse! You deserve it! Denise - Just wanted you to know that I was just funnin' you about the exercise thing. What kind of Nazi would I be if I didn't? I certainly understand about not having the time. That's a hard one to get around. Walk Away The Pounds is a good at-home video...not too strenuous...maybe just the lift you need. Do take care of yourself. J
