  1. I felt that way at first then I realized a few things: 1) Everyone is too busy with their own workouts to really pay attention to other people 2) They are probably proud of you for being there (I am when I see overweight people there) 3) If I value myself I will go in spite of "what others might think". I am doing this for ME and I am proud of myself for being there and working hard. 4) There are LOTS of overweight people at the gym....probably 60% of them are! I fit right in! 5) Being embarrassed is too flimsy of an excuse. Really....just go. When you start to feel stronger and healthier you will be so motivated to do more that you really won't care about anyone else there. I promise!!
  2. 83145g142mg2,223mg53g19g7g69g Pamela - here's my counts for today: calories 831 fat 45g carbs 53g fiber 7g proteiin 69g Yay! a good day!
  3. Haydee - You are so beautiful. (violets -- she's even more beautiful in person than in her picture!) I like the pic in your signature too...leave it there! Well, carbs are a funny thing, y'know...there's good ones and bad ones. If you need to know about good/bad carbs, let me know and I'll give you a little lesson. If you only eat good carbs and keep them under 75g a day you're doing real well. The (old) food pyramid calls for something like 300g of carbs!! So you can see that 75 would be very good. Strict low carb diets limit them to 35-40g a day but that's very hard to do. Tracy, my hair is pretty thick. It's also very straight. I wish you lived over here... I have a great new stylist. Over the years I've learned that you get what you pay for (usually) when it comes to haircuts. TracyKS - I'm glad you're feeling better!! Yuck! so what are you gonna 'do' now? Wonder What Judy is Doing now? Pamela - New day tomorrow?? How'd u do today? I'll let you know how I did in a minute...gotta go run over to www.dailyplate Sara-- How you doin' quit buddy? I've been so cranky, but OK.
  4. Well, that's the best I can suggest anyway. Why don't you give it a try? If you're hungry at 10:30a or so, eat a small piece of cheese or a few almonds, rather than anything carby. Keep snacks small...a little goes a long way. I think if you keep the carbs low, especially in the morning, you may start to notice a difference.
  5. For those of you having trouble being hungry because of breakfast, please take it from me...I've been regulating my blood sugar and related hunger for 30 years and the reason you are getting hungry is: 1) You are eating too many carbs 1st thing in the morning. 2) Starting off with a carby breakfast will set you up for extra hunger for the rest of the day, stimulates more carb cravings which will then result in the vicious hunger cycle. This is why we're told PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN!! I looked at Haydee's breakfast as an example Amount per ServingCalories 185 Calories from Fat 65 Total Fat 8g Carbohydrate 24g Dietary Fiber 4g Sugars 15g Protein 4 Est. Percent of Calories from: Fat 38.9% Carbs 51.9% Protein 8.6% You should be shooting for about 20g of protein at every meal...and you see this doesn't come close. 24g of carbs and 15g of sugar would do me in for the morning. For 'normal' people it merely makes them hungry! See? I regulate my hunger with protein and I'm not a big fan of "low fat" anything...fat helps the protein stay with me longer and prolongs hunger. Carbs? Yeah, I'm afraid of those! My breakfast had 17g protein, 8g fat and 16g of carbs, 2g fiber. (Cottage cheese 4%fat, raspberries, & a bit of granola for fiber). I ate at 8:00a, and I'm just now eating lunch at 1:22p, with little hunger in between. Just food for thought!
  6. No, you don't want to do what I'm doing!! I'm not losing! Haven't lost a pound in almost a month. One thing I have been religious about is not eating 3+ hours before bedtime. I want to avoid ANY chance of reflux problems!!! I'm also strict about not drinking during or 1/2 hour+ after meals. Also, I always get in my 64 oz of fluids.
  7. I'm in the same boat, Pamela. I'm committing to a new goal today of staying below 1000 calories at least for the rest of August. Faithfully tracking my cals on Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and being brutally honest. I did that for yesterday's calories and found I ate 1250 calories. OH, and then I remembered those peanut M&M's I shoved into my mouth mindlessly and had to add another 250 cals!...making my total 1500+ for the day. That's not gonna cut it. Will you join me??
  8. OMG HH!! You totally rock!!!!!!!!
  9. G'Morning all! Kat= I was about to send the police out looking for you! Jeez-o-man, I wonder how many calories you burned last week??? I'd be in the hospital if I had to do all that! Tell Rick that next time he gets a week off you want to go to Bermuda or something! That's NO vacation! LOL I am SO grateful to have Chantix to lean on. I never, never could quit cold turkey...that's why I could never quit before these drugs came out. I quit in 2003 with Wellbutrin and now with Chantix. Cold turkey is just too hard for me. Sara's going cold turkey today, ya'll, so please give her lots of support!! (We're quit buddies and emailing back and forth.) I'm very grouchy today. Thank goodness nobody is here at the office and it's a quiet day. When I told DH I quit smoking yesterday, he said "Oh." He abhores my smoking. You'd think I'd get a little more support than that, eh?
  10. Jen & Tracy - Congrats to you both!! Life is good!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm hanging in there. I have an earache, my quads are killing me from doing lunges yesterday, I'm hungry (but I'm already at 1000 cals for the day) and I'm cranky as hell. Other than that, I'm fine.
  11. Thinatlast: You have to keep in mind that we eat at least 3x a day, every day. That's over 1000 meals a year x 30 bites/meal (?)....that's 30,000 opportunities to screw up and take too big of a bite or not chew well enough or eat slowly. I don't have issues every time I eat, but right after a fill you have to kinda start over again getting to know your band...'cuz it's a whole new day! It takes a week or two of tweaking then it's alright again. If you keep having trouble then you start to wonder if you need an unfill or what to do?! That's when you see people posting problems on the board. You don't hear about all the thousands and thousands of people NOT having problems! Yes, issues will occur, but they are generally not long-lasting.
  12. Ditto what Trystelle said. You will find that taking the deep breaths, in spite of the pain, will reduce it in the long run. The first breath or two is hard, then it gets easier. I did about 5 or more at a time, every 2 hours.
  13. Pamela & Michelle - Thanks for all the words of encouragment AND the bananas!! :car: Pamela -- you need a new avatar! Yours is too tiny and I can't see who I'm talkin' to!! Surely ya'll took a million pics this summer! Can't believe summer's almost over! The good news is that means an eventual end to this miserable hot weather. The bad news is that Christmas is coming. (Yes, I am a card-carrying hard-core Scrooge.)
  14. Thanks, Tracy...no, it's not the medication. I've only been taking it a few days and it's not known to have weight gain/loss issues. Neither is the anti-depressant I'm taking. Prozak is the one that is notorius for weight stalls; I don't take that. It's just my slow metabolism! Thankfully I have my old LC journal still online and this is just my pattern: stall for weeks, lose a few pounds, stall for weeks, lose a few pounds...etc. I can't believe how you are just losing like a maniac now!! You're a FILL believer now, arent you?!
  15. Ragdoll - Have you tried strictly liquids for a day or two? Give your tummy a rest and see if that helps....then try again and if you're still having problems I'd consider a slight unfill. I'm heading for a fill on Wednesday and have the feeling I'm gonna have the same problems as you for a couple of weeks. Hope you're better soon.
  16. WOW! Everyone is just doing so great!!! I'm so proud of all of you, and I have to admit...a little bit jealous. Judy - I hope you catch this before you leave...I know you've been looking forward to this trip for a long time! I know ya'll will have a wonderful time...enjoy every minute and recognize all of the reasons to celebrate! I am facing quite a challenge here in the next few weeks. And I gotta let you all know what's going on so that you can help me when I start whining!! That's your job, right? :car: Ok, so here's the story: Back in the fall of 2003 I quit smoking, started menopause and fell off the low-carb wagon. Triple Whammy DeLuxe. I went from 158-200# in about 18 months. I was pretty frantic but nothing I did helped with the weight. At some point my screwed up, desperate brain decided it would be OK to start smoking again to help control my weight....so I ruined my quit. It did help slow down my weight gain...but now, of course, I have to deal with quitting again. I've been taking Chantix (a new drug to help you quit) and it's working pretty well. Today is my first day without cigarettes and so far, so good. The REASON I mention all this stupid stuff is that I kind of expect over the next few weeks to be a tad bit cranky, maybe a little depressed, I'll probably even have MORE of a struggle losing weight, and might even gain! I'm going to try real hard to keep it under control and just DO what I need to DO, but I don't know if I have it in me without the crutch of cigarettes. We'll see. So, wish me luck on all fronts!! Ultimately I'm really hoping that with improved lung capacity I can kick up my cardio workouts...but that'll just help me 'break even' metabolically. It could be a rough ride. <sign> :help:
  17. Get on the floor and do 3 sets of 20 crunches. Do some lunges. Walk in place. Grab some cans of tomatoes and do some curls. Stretch. Turn on the fitness channel. Run to Sam's and buy a workout video. Sorry, charlie....your excuses don't wash!!
  18. Get up. Get your shorts and shoes on. Put one foot in front of the other until you get on the treadmill. You will relieve your guilt, you will feel better and you will be so glad you did. Now MOVE IT!
  19. Thank you,Mr Downtown! I really need to get started on that!
  20. No, THANK YOU for contributing....please post any and everytime you realize something has improved for you. I could just about post here every day!!
  21. Yes, you have to actually GET UP and DO the workout in order for it to be effective. I think that's imperative. I tried it with my swimming the other day and the HIIT kicked my ass. I could only do 1.5 laps full out...but it's an interesting yardstick.
  22. Zannie - I haven't been exactly in your situation, but real close, so I do feel I have some experience in this regard...not just throwing out cliche popular 'wisdom'. I think you sound like a very intelligent woman with her head on real straight. I commend you for your attitude about this whole thing and fighting to keep your marriage together...it sounds like it is worth fighting for. The fact that he is forthcoming with answers to your painful questions, that he is going to the doctor and therapists, etc. tells me he is highly motivated to stay and work on it. He made a horrible mistake....many mistakes....but he is human. His transgressions may or may not be forgivable, you will see in time. But you are at least giving it a try and that is HUGE. In the meantime, while you are waiting for your therapy to kick in I would ask one of the therapist's for some suggested reading for you....go to the library or bookstore and load up. It could be very helpful for you while you are sitting there pinging like a pinball wondering "what to do". I wish you the best of luck, of course. Perhaps this will be a cathartic experience for both of you and in years to come, no matter what the outcome, you will realize it contributed to your growth. The most important thing is to not let it destroy YOU. That happened to my cousin who also used to be my best friend. It's been 11 years since her husband cheated and she was such a raving bitch about it that it simply HAD to end in divorce. No amount of restitution would have satisfied her. 11 years later she IS STILL RAVING to the point that every single conversation we have always circles around to him and how idiotic and horrible he is....to the point where I long ago had ENOUGH. Her whole existence revolves around her bitterness and her spirit is dead. DO NOT let this happen to you. Whether you stay in the marriage or not, FIND A WAY TO MOVE ON (eventually). It is imperative. During times like these I like to imagine my guardian angels with their wings wrapped tightly around me. I wish that for you. Be well.
  23. I wouldn't if I were you....that breading stuff really gives me fits....no matter what stage of restriction I'm in.
  24. Sara - you are so precious!!! A beautiful lady, inside AND out! Dave is a lucky man! It sure looks like you live in a wonderful place!! Lucky you! Tracy - again with the panty updates?? Well, congratulations on the jeans AND the panties . Your shrubs are gonna be in good shape this winter! I only have TWO bracelets left to make ya'll!! They'll be shipping out on Monday!
