Gerald R Garwood D.O. Diplomate A.A.P.S. received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery from the University of Health Sciences / Kansas City Osteopathic Medical School . In 1975, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth , Texas . He is a proud member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Association of Physician Specialist, and the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association. Currently , he practices at The Medical Center in College Station , TX. Dr . Garwood ' s extensive experience and resources were absolutely critical in the developmental stage of MEDacor's Bariatric Weight Loss Program.

The following information is an excerpt from an interview with Dr. Gerald Garwood:

Q Why is it so important to dramatically increase protein consumption pre and post Bariatric surgery?

A: “Pre-operatively speaking, a diet rich in protein helps reduce fatty infiltration of the liver and the spleen, which in turn reduces the potential for prolonged surgery, delayed healing, organ damage, and bleeding of the liver. Post-operatively speaking, protein consumption is critical for organ and tissue repair, recovery, and for overall health and weight loss goals...”

Q: Are there any mineral or vitamin deficiencies Bariatric patients tend to encounter?

A: “Over the past three decades, medicine has learned to deal with many vitamin and mineral post-operative complications. Since Bariatric patients tend to be deficient in various essential vitamins and minerals, it is absolutely critical for them to supplement diet, reduce risks of medical problems, and to maintain optimal health…”

Q: Post-operatively speaking, how critical of a role does diet play when it comes to reaching a patient’s overall weight loss goal?

A; “A patient's overall weight loss is highly dependent on post-operative eating habits. Therefore, it is absolutely critical for the attending physician to provide diet information and training to allow the patient to reach his or her goals while maintaining a healthy status.”

Q: How would you rank MEDacor’s Bariatric Weight Loss Program for pre and post-op care?

A: “Superb. Your overall commitment to promote the patients success through diet, exercise and supplementation is unmatched in the business.”

Q: Do you think the program would also work for the average person to lose weight and improve overall health?

A: “Without a doubt. Supplementing Myocel along with a proper diet and exercise program can promote fat loss, muscle tissue repair and re-growth, and overall good health for the average person.
