About Me

About me, eh? I just recently had lapband surgery on April 20th. The surgery went well, I was sent home the next day, only to end up back in the ER the day after that, with severe pain, GERD, nausea. Needless to say, they ended up running more tests, and pumped more meds, besides prescribing some for the nausea and GERD, besides pain. I'm hoping the recovery lets up here soon, don't really enjoy the pain.

So with that being said, how did I get here? I'm 42, with two beautiful daughters, and a bad back. I had a spine surgery in 2003, that helped me immensely, there was no hardware put into me. Fast forward, about almost two years ago, I started having problems with my back and legs again, to the point they would collapse on me, felt like I landed on a cattle fence, I would just sink to the ground, not fun trust me. So, for the past two years, did everything the docs and insurance asked, including pt, MRI's, etc., and steadily degrading, and steadily gaining weight as my activity level went down, I rarely even drive now, even riding as a passenger is very uncomfortable.

So what it came down to, is after jumping through many hoops, I was told that no one would work on my spine, (the surgery would require going through the abdomen). My primary then suggested the lapband. I initially bowed up at this, but as time went on, I did the research, and got to go to the info seminar. I realized this is my last chance, to get my life back. The objective is to get the weight down and off my spine, and hopefully equal less pain, maybe even to the point I won't need the spine surgery, but if I do, at least the weight will be gone.

Over the past three months, I did all the appts, worked with the nutritionist, and physical therapy. I have also quit smoking, May 4th will make it four months, smoke free. During this, I have manage to lose about 21 lbs. I started off at 250 and a week before surgery weighed in at 229. My blood sugar went through the roof, before I started dropping the weight, besides my knees both crunch, and ended up with plantar fasciatis in my right foot, (which is supposed to be the good one, other has nerve damage).

Long term expectations? To get my health back, I want to enjoy life, and live to an old age, just to aggravate my kids. ;)

I'm sure there is more I could say, but at least this is a start.
