Mentor Needed
It sounds like you are in a stall! It happens to everyone, at any point during our journeys! The last two months I've only lost one week out of the 8... it sucks big time but it happens. Focus on the fact that you are losing inches! That is great. I think sometimes our body just puts the brakes on for awhile as a way of saying "whoooaaaa, what are you doing to me!! I need time to process!". Just keep doing what you are doing and focus on the long term. Before you know it, it will pass and you be on your journey again. Good luck

Meat Meat Meat
It sure does!!! I'm 7 months out and I rarely eat anything other than meat and cheese. I lived in Brooklyn, NY for a few months and so many people I met there were vegans... it was always amusing eating out with them. I ate the complete opposite diet! But, it works for me. And it is sooo worth it!! On days where I really just don't feel like eating meats or I want a high carb day I just make sure to get in an extra shake or two to make sure I hit my Protein goals. I suppose you could also try adding in tofu or nuts to your diet, but neither are particularly high sources of protein.

Would You Do The Gastric Sleeve Again?
Yes, absolutely! With zero hesitation I would. Long term scientific results of this surgery aren't readily available because it hasn't been used by itself for very long. The sleeve was originally used as the first part of the old duodenal switch procedure. So the sleeve itself is not new, but by itself it is. Before having my surgery I researched the long term effects of "gastrectomies" in general. People have parts or all of their stomachs removed for other reasons, such as cancer, ulcers, trauma, etc. Their positive results helped set my mind at ease and proceed with my sleeve.

What Do You Recommend?
Depending on the person and their individual situation... I would say YES! This was the best decision I ever made. It was (and is) tough mentally, emotionally and physically but I have not only lost the weight but I have learned so much about myself. You are right that it cannot be adequately described and people have to be careful with their mental status and stamina... but if people took that thinking to everything in their life they would be stuck forever. None of us completely understood how this would affect our lives, but we all chose to take the plunge. The risk was worth it for us. The most I would ever say to anyone would be "not now, go do some more research and then do it". I also think it depends on the procedure itself. Some are much more drastic (the bypass) than our sleeves. The whole process is life altering- but in such a positive way. I would encourage anyone seriously considering it to pursue it.

Need Comparison From The Pros
Hey Congrats on how well you've been doing! I can't eat the entire 6 inch sub including the bread, but I could minus the bread. Bread still hits me like a rock! Are you a taller guy? I'm pretty sure that could affect the size of your stomach from the very beginner because your organs will be longer than a shorty like me (5'2"). I know I've read on here before some guys saying they could eat a whole sandwich and then some at a further point out. I think you're fine, especially since you are in maintenance already Congrats on getting married!!!

Nsv For Me...

I Am Trying To Stay Calm....but...
It frustrates me to no end when these types of situations happen. I really don't understand why they can't do their jobs properly in the first place!! Good luck and hopefully everything gets resolved quickly for you!

I Can't Get In My Protein
Hello How far out are you from surgery?? If you are more than a month out then I would definitely be trying harder to get Protein in thru some form of food. It sounds like you are still on liquids though. For me, before I could eat food I didn't get in much protein at all because I couldn't get it down. I was having trouble enough with Water or warm liquids as it was. Have you asked your doctor about anti-nausea medicine? Are you puking because your body is rejecting it (that would be an instant reaction to even a small amount) or because you could be drinking too much, too fast? You have to sip Protein shakes even slower than you would something thinner. My other advice is to try to drink some protein that you can do warm. Like warm milk (if you can handle milk at this point) or even a decaf latte (again, if you can handle the milk and you are allowed decaf coffee yet). You could also try soy milk. If you are still close to your surgery date than I wouldn't freak out too much and just focus on getting in your liquids. It gets a bit easier when you can start to add in food again.

My Assets!
The only thing is that for most of us, its totally worth it! I was super sad looking at my old body every day. I see my extra skin and my "bat wings" (under my arms) and even though I don't really *like* them... i'm almost fond of it. It is so much easier to have to deal with those things than carry around the weight every day. Also, when it comes to boobies at least, while they may not look great in the buff... it is very easy to "fake it".

Thanks For This Specific Forum.
Of course you are not being too emotional!! I am 21 and having a child (in the future, not now ) was one of my motivations to have this surgery. You are not the first on these boards either whose main motivation for the surgery was to have children. I believe there is even section on this site specifically for people post-sleeve who are pregnant or who are trying to become pregnant!! If you haven't already you should check it out for sure Good luck! You're surgery will be here before you know it. And hopefully that beautiful little angel as well

My Assets!
LOL! This post is hilarious I'm 7 months out, 114 down and I still have my "blobs" (teehee). Are they smaller? Yes, but not horribly so. I am the same proportion if that makes sense. I had bigger boobs on my bigger body. Technically they are smaller, but they really don't seem like it because all of me is smaller. My butt... kinda a different story But I can always build up butt muscle when I switch to focusing on exercise more than weight loss. I can say for sure that I'm not complaining about being in size 6 pants Overall, even if I did lose my assets I think it would be 100% worth it. Even though I felt good, even at my highest, I feel a million times better now.

Anyone else worried about sleeve stretch?
Hey So I know this was posted awhile ago but I was searching the boards to see the number of oz other people were eating at this stage (i'm 7 months out). I know for sure that the 2oz is really only while you are healing, which can take up to 6 months. Right around my 5 month mark I noticed I could suddenly eat quite a bit more and I panicked for a little while until I remember that what I was eating the first few months was tiny because my stomach was still healing. Once I remembered that my capacity was supposed to go up I felt much better Right now I can eat between 2.5 and 3 oz if it is dense Protein. I only weigh my Proteins and only once in awhile to make sure i'm still on track so I can't tell you much more than that. I don't eat carbs on a regular basis, but I won't refuse them either. For instance I had a piece of birthday cookie cake on monday for my grandmother's birthday. During regular meals I cannot get in any veggies (let alone carbs) unless I spread my meal out over an hour or so, which I don't like to do. I do know that certain foods, especially popcorn, are "sliders" for me and I could eat a lot of eat. Luckily I haven't had problems with stopping when I know i've had enough. So at your point I think it is perfectly fine that you are eating 4 oz. Just make sure its 4oz of the good stuff most of the time I've read on here before how some people can eat half a sandwich or kids meal. I can't do that, but it certainly seems possible.

My Nutritionist Just Called Me An "anomaly" :/
Hello First off, I can sense how frustrated you are, and of course you are! But try to not think about the numbers. I know, it seems impossible, but I am wondering if the stress you are putting yourself under is keeping you from losing. I am much further out (7 months), but I was recently in a high-stress situation and I lost zero weight for a month. The month before that, 2 lbs. At my point the weight loss is supposed to slow down, but zero lost was killer. As soon as I was out of the situation, I lost 4 lbs. Stress, and sleep (I believe someone else mentioned that) are super important!! I have come to learn that I am *very* sensitive to stress, sleep, carbs, and Water. If I am "off" on any of those 4 then I don't lose. At all. I don't know if anyone else mentioned it. But make sure you are getting in ALL of your water and then some!! It is super important because if you are dehydrated your body can't function properly and cannot "flush" the fat its burning. Can I also suggest that if this continues that you talk to your surgeon? He/She may ask you to do blood work or something to make sure that everything is physically okay. Good luck and please keep us posted! Deep breath, (((hugs))), smile. It will all work out You're sleeve won't let you down.

Aetna... I Want To Cry!
I don't believe you have to have had the co-morbidity for 2+years. I didn't have to worry about this as my BMI was way over 40, but it wouldn't make sense for you to have to have the problem that long before surgery is allowed. Please don't be scared or worried that it will be in vain. It would suck if you were denied, but then you will appeal it and you will fight for it! This whole process is a learning experience and will never have been in vain. If they deny you this year, keep doing it until you get it. I will say, based on what you've provided, I don't think they will deny you. Good luck!

Looking to make the 20 somethings forum active
Hi Ellie! I'm Emily and I'm 21 as well I already had my surgery, 7 months ago in september. I am very glad to hear that you have such a strong support network. I had that and it really helps sooo much My mom was incredible for me and I am soo happy I had her. It is life changing, but once you are at the point where I am and beyond, you don't notice it as much. It shifts into a new normal that is feels good.I never realised how much I was missing before If you have any questions or just want to chat let me know! You can always send me a private message. Good luck! May will be here before you know it!

Carbs Carbs And More Carbs
I am low carb, but mainly because I can barely get my protein mins in now (with a shake too), so to add in more carbs wouldn't really work for me. I plan on adding in carbs when I want to hit maintenance. To stay low I just eat protein. I don't eat rice/pasta/bread/ etc (actually, most of those my sleeve can't handle). That being said, that is what I do on a regular basis. I don't forbid them. I had a scoop of ice cream the other day and when I made cookies for my cousin I had one of those too! No big deal for me.

Ugh The Smell
I use straws I cannot stand the smell and to this day (6 months out) often the protein will make me gag the first few sips. It doesn't matter what brand/flavor (though some are worse for me) it is. I learned to just work past it, especially since I still can't eat my protein minimum.
-
Caffeine
I never asked, but since I was having a tough time getting in my mins I didn't want to risk dehydration by adding in coffee. I did have some around the 2 month mark and I realized that I can't tolerate it very well anymore. I'm sorry that you are having trouble with your energy. You didn't say how far out you are, but it could still be post-op recovering tiredness. Your b vitamins could be low. When I was tired the first few weeks after I would drink powerade zero or propel water. They have b vitamins and electrolytes in them and I felt much better

Almost 70
I am so sorry to hear that you are having such a horrible stall. But I congratulate you on your positive outlook. It is so true that if weight loss is this hard WITH the sleeve I can't imagine what it would be like without it! No wonder I was never successful before. I can't imagine what you're going through. I was about to pull my hair out after a 3 week stall. They are so frustrating. To break mine I changed up what I was doing. I stuck to my Proteins and Water and changed the type of exercise I was doing. The weekend before my stall broke (I weigh in on mondays) I visited some friends and I had a "carb" day... meaning that I focused on proteins but I didn't worry about the ice cream scoop I had or the cookie I had. I needed the break mentally. My sleeve let me be normal without worrying about going crazy. The next day I was down 4. I definitely don't go carb crazy to lose the weight, it normally wouldn't work. It could've just been the mental sigh of relief over the weekend that caused it, I really don't know. No matter what, stalls are tough. Focus on all of those wonderful NSV's and your muscle tone and your body and relax knowing that your sleeve will take care of you. Also, your scale stinks lol! Leave it alone for awhile. ((hugs)) good luck!

Hypocrites
I live with someone like this. She is quite heavy and recently had a baby. She is always talking about how she needs to go back on her diet and she needs to do this and do that... but she's saying all this while gorging herself on ice cream and leftover chinese. Then she'll be like, want a cookie? You said you are allowed too, why won't you have one?" The other day we were talking about something that came on the news and she was like "since I know you, its like wow look how skinny she is, but if i didn't know you I would just think you are a regular person. I know you still have to tone up more and stuff. If I was a stranger I wouldn't think you were slim". I was actually pretty upset because hello... i wear a size 6 now! SIX. I have never worn that number before and yeah, I still have some work to do and I want to get to my goal weight but to say that was so wrong. It can be very annoying. I try to just ignore it. But it does get really frustrating. Sorry you have to deal with this on a regular basis.

Nsv! Celebrate The Little Things!
I loved being able to comfortably cross my legs again Now, pretty much wherever I am I am sitting "criss cross applesauce" (as my little sis would say). At the dining room table, in a booth, on the couch... my legs are always crossed and tucked under me lol. You are doing great! Thanks for sharing!

It's Thursday Thinker Time!
I've never heard this quote before, but I like it. I think its true that change and growth can't happen if you don't allow it to. You have to put yourself out there and take the risk that maybe it won't be what you are expecting. I think all change is good. Even if it turns out wrong you've learned from that experience and can move on.

What Are You Looking Like?
Well, I am fairly happy with my numbers (I've slowed way down recently) but I have dropped a ton of sizes and people do notice It is especially awesome when I see people that do not about my weight loss. It makes it easier when my weight loss stalls when I remember that my body is still changing and catching up. I never tracked inches, but I love it when my jeans go down a size. To make it easier on myself I only wear one brand of jeans (at this point). I hate when my jean size fluctuates, even if I know it realistically is not me going up in a size but rather a different brand/different sizes etc. So I stuck with one brand and I love it when I have to buy the size down I went from a 24 old navy jean to a 6! I don't dare trying on a 6 anywhere else because if they don't fit it would crush me lol. My other pants are a size 8. So I'm feeling pretty good right about now!
