  1. At least they've discovered the problems you have and they can start treating them whether that's with meds or surgery. Hopefully you'll start to feel positive soon, as the only way is up and you didn't have something terrible happen to you for them to discover you conditions. All the best and chin up!!
  2. Congrats! The following is a start for what to pack: Dressing gown Nightie? (I didn't use mine as I used the hospital gown, which was good as my dressing leaked post shower ) Slippers Lip balm Tooth brush Tooth paste Toiletries (shower gel, shampoo, comb, etc). I took magazines, but was so tired from the anesthetic I didn't read them although you may be different.
  3. Try and not watch comercials - Tivo or channel hop, you have to find a strategy to counter the marketing execs!
  4. I'd check with Mayo clinic and go with what they say. You should definitely be fine with them once you're allowed solids.
  5. It's a bummer, as I've been there myself... maybe you just need to give it a few days as sometimes you just need to figure out a different way of styling it to what suits your face, which can make all the difference. I've rarely had my hair shorter than what'll fit in a pony tail, so if I don't like the cut then a good ol' pony tail is my usual fall back.
  6. Keep your chin up... I've only heard good posts from Dr Watkins' patients so hopefully you'll be OK!
  7. A recliner's a great idea. I stayed in hospital for 3 nights and had the bed raised at the feet and head so it didn't put such a strain on my stomach (like a recliner), but by the time I left I was good to lie flat on my stomach by the 4th night. As soon as you feel comfortable try sleeping in your bed, but until then the recliner should be fine.
  8. I was self pay, so can't speak from personal experience, but I did read of someone on here who only just qualified for surgery, did their 6 month diet and lost some weight and then was no longer eligible, as they were below the minimum BMI!! Hopefully someone can give you some good advise on how to deal with UHC - good luck.
  9. No, it was a night flight, so I slept. I just had my flights socks on to avoid DVT.
  10. It depends on the instructions your doc gives you, but for week 1 afterwards it was clear liquids for me. I'd have been allowed protein liquids after that first week, as that was the full liquid stage (so milk, soups runny yogurt, etc). I think a lot of people on here have similar post op regimes for the first couple of weeks at least (BTW week 3 was mushies for me). Good luck!
  11. I did a 10 hour flight back to the UK 10 days after my op, so I'm sure you'll be fine on just a domestic one (I flew domestically 3 days after my op).
  12. Wow, you've lost a lot from your face and you look even prettier than before!
  13. BTW they let me have ice chips until I was allowed to drink... they were sooo good!
  14. Congrats!! I can't believe you're online already - I was still feeling too knocked out from the anesthetic at that point!!
  15. Hmm... I was told that full liquids were things like milk, very runny yogurt, soup, etc, so egg drop soup and tomato soup should be OK according to that criteria. I'd start out with with only a mouthful or 2 of anything new and if you feel OK, you can always have some more later once you know you're OK with it.
  16. Hi optasia, other than the complications you mention, some people suffer with nausea, but your doc should give you meds for this, so you should be OK. Eventually you should be able to have some chocolate and a margarita on festive occasions. You'll just have to try and gauge it yourself by how it affects you on the scale as to what you can get away with.
  17. Check out Dr Watkins' post on stitches, etc here http://www.verticals...291-gps-update/ You could ask and find out which type of stitches Dr López Corvala uses. I never bothered asking, as the day I got out of hospital I realized I wasn't given my post op barium swallow image so phoned that same day to request it. Anyway long story short - I was told sure no probs we'll scan and email it, only to be told after 2 weeks of phoning and emailing that records are disposed of 2 weeks after surgery!! Needless to say I have NO confidence in anything post-operative with them (I knew it would be minimal follow up, but really that's too much). If you find out on the stitches please let me know.
  18. Hi kuzzybev. I know what you mean. My plication doesn't really restrict me much and I just have to monitor myself and try and be careful (I know, not so different from before!!). My doc said that being sick in the first 3 weeks can cause you problems with your stitches and you said that you were sick when you were 4 weeks out. You're probably one of the unlucky ones that doesn't get much restriction. See this thread for details http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/11938-not-enough-restriction/page__p__103315#entry103315 I've also seen VSGers on here with similar threads, so I guess it can happen regardless of procedure. The only thing you can really do is do a barium swallow to see if you're stomach's as it's meant to be post surgery.
  19. All the best! I look forward to hearing how you get on.
  20. Hi Abbey, I don't want to sound dismissive but enjoy it while it lasts! I felt like that for about a month, but there's less to recover from with a plication. I've read that's what termed as your 'window of opportunity' for losing weight generally lasts only 6 months, so once you're closer to your old self you'll probably long to have these days back again.
  21. You could also give Greek yogurt a try. It has double the protein compared to standard yogurt, is a lot thicker so less likely to be a slider food, and if you add agave to sweeten it, it'll cause less of a blood sugar spike.
  22. Try searching for some of Rootman's posts, as he had Dr Almanza.
