  1. Sorry, I just re-read my post and it sounded a bit rude on second read... Crystal Light (or something like it) was meant to be just a suggestion, but it didn't read that way second time round!
  2. I'm jumping too, as I'm interested in everyone's replies.
  3. I'm finding that the plication hasn't had too much impact on me either (I can eat a lot more than I thought I'd be able to).
  4. You're really early out, so concentrate on liquids for now and don't stress about protein too much just yet. When you're on mushies you can try yogurt. People generally tolerate better fermented milk products even if they have problems with milk.
  5. Can you find out from them what issues they have? Other than the soda of course. BTW have you tried Crystal Light? I like the apple flavour one, so you can start having that and let them know that you're off the fizzy stuff already. Good luck.
  6. 36lbs in 2 months - that's great. Keep doing whatever you're doing as that's good progress - ~4lbs/week! When you were waiting for WLS I'm sure it felt like it'd never come round and it'll be the same with your other upcoming ops.
  7. Tiffykins had a band to sleeve conversion so I think that may have complicated things. Hopefully you'll be OK.
  8. You'll be on mushies soon so don't worry until then - a lot of people struggle in the early days. You'll then be able to have scrambled egg and yogurt (Greek yogurt has double the protein of standard yogurt), so that should help. You'll probably be OK with some fish too.
  9. Awesome, BTW I like the new profile pic!
  10. What did you to cheat if you don't mind me asking? I was thinking of maybe using Slim Fast as I don't get on with powdered drinks - in your opinion might that work? Was the idea to just do a liquid diet?
  11. Has anyone done a pouch test? What did it involve? How did you get on/has it helped and how long for? Anyone curious about pouch tests can get some info here www.5daypouchtest.com
  12. Congrats Melanie - I'm glad to hear you're doing so well. Dr Watkins posted his discharge sheet on this link, but you should follow what your surgeon advised you to do. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/10374-the-rate-of-weight-loss/page__p__97979#entry97979
  13. - I got my ticker from www.TickerFactory.com - Once your ticker is configured back on VST clickon My Settings on the drop down under Signed in as (at the top left of yourscreen) - The click the Profile tab (3rd one inafter the Settings and Forms tabs) - Click Change Signature (3rd one downon the left) - Paste in your tickerfactory link there - Click Save Changes at the bottom of screen.
  14. Are you moving it on the floor? If you're on an uneven floor, I find that gives very random readings. I'd think the batter should work or it shouldn't, not give a crazy reading... maybe you need a new scale!
  15. I stayed in 3 nights post op, as I was feeling pretty bad, but I felt LOADS better on day 4. Just a bottle of water should be fine. I think it took about an hour to get back to San Diego, as the taxi driver will have an express pass. Jus sip, sip, sip. All the best and I look forward to hearing how you get on after!
  16. Not a criticism I'm afraid, but it's well written (grammar, no typos, etc) and to the point. I hope it works and that you maybe get something a bit more constructive from someone else.
  17. Weird - I've not had that ever. Docs like looking down throats so it's still worth seeing yours if you can.
  18. I didn't have a sore throat at all, although I have had a sore throat with other non-abdominal surgery. It usually went away after a week though. Sounds like your throat may have got scratched during the op (they put a tube down your throat). Why don't you see your family to doc and have them check it out, as 4 weeks out sounds like quite a long time to still be feeling sore. You might just need something simple like a course of antibiotics. I'm sure it's nothing major, but it's worth having it looked at. HTH!
  19. Hi Tara! Congrats on the approval. This video scared me off having my bowels operated on At least you can say you're making an informed choice after seeing a clip like that. Good luck with whatever you do!
  20. Good luck - less than a month to go!
  21. Hi Kya, see this post for choccie related stuff http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/12244-32-of-the-yummiest-grams-of-protein-in-one-sitting/ I don't take anything to sleep at night, so don't know about that. My hubby made a similar comment to yours and you just have to try and re-assure them, sadly you don't get the surgery and wake up looking like a supermodel, more's the petty!
  22. Oh, OK then according to the figures I've seen DS is the most effective WLS, so he's correct in what he says. I believe it's fallen out of favor tho due severe mal-absorption (and frequent diarrea). I can understand why people go for it as the average Excessive Weight Loss (EWL) is 80%, whereas other WLS is around 70%. This youtube clip scared me away from surgery to do with bowels It's a longish clip, but keep with it - Amelia's a sweetie and I think I've seen all her clips even tho she's an RNYer (BTW she was quite a long way out from surgery when this happened).Just keep reading and researching, so you can make the most informed decision you can.
  23. I'm so sorry to hear that. If your surgeon is anti VSG, then I personally wouldn't want a VSG with him. I didn't want the mal-absorption and bowel stricture/rotation issues that come with having your bowels re-sected. I don't really understand how a duodenal switch is meant to be safer than a VSG, when VSG is halfway to DS! Have you considered self-pay? When you consider $130/month for almost 20 years until you retire, self-pay looks pretty cheap. In the US do they offer credit cards with introductory interest free periods? That's how I financed my surgery. If you self-pay then the world's your oyster!
  24. Hi Olivia, I've been sticking well within the new WW ProPoints daily allowance and getting at least 60 grams of protein in every day (I know men and some people are advised more, but I guess being a female at the lower end, I was told 60 grams). I haven't lost anything for 5 days now and I've walked and worked out a bit. You do get hungry in between and I 'think' I can eat the same about as before, but the truth is I get full on a WW ready meal which barely used to touch the sides before (I'm talking about the lower cal/point WW meals - I think I might struggle getting in a high point WW meal). I may start using the full WW daily allowance and just accept that I'm a ~2lb a week loser. Anyway, as they say weight loss with GPS is comparable to VSG and even RNY, so maybe I'd be experiencing the same with those too (we can all probably name a celeb or 2 who hasn't done so well with RNY). I think it just goes back to what everyone says, that WLS is a tool not a magic bullet and that you have to work with it, ie make healthy choices and do some exercise. So to answer your question, yes you do have to exercise a some willpower, but the surgery helps too. Sorry to not be able to be clearer than that, I'm only 5.5 weeks out and while I've been successful in losing weight before, I think the proof for me will be whether I keep it off this time, which is my ultimate goal! All the best with whatever you end up doing and keep us posted!
  25. All the best - I hope that things continue to go well for you.
