  1. Isn't there a way to KILL that annoying inner voice? :cuss::smash4:

Mine has tred to sabotage me too but I chose to ignore it at some point.

"No, I could never do it on my own, othersiwe I'd already be thin. No, this is not the easy way out. No, this doesn't mean I have a very weak personality". These were my answers to it.

    Prepare your answers!

Are you sure you'd save money? What about the money you'll have to spend on your health if you don't take care of youself now? Mmmmh...

  2. Why should we be any different from men with diabetes 1, or from any other people in general??? Because of the insulin injections we do get hungrier than "normal" people do, but I guess it happens with any kind of surgery, not only VSL.

Did she tell you why? And anyway: will you have the chance to choose your own surgery? I'd go and listen to what the surgeon has to say, but still...

I'm not that far out, but already 2 1/2 months and everything is GREAT. I LOVE the sleeve. I am still off the pump, I have decided I will put it back after Summer, I want to enjoy the hot weather without it and get my belly completely heeled.

I'm interested in what the surgeon will say.

Of course everyone assumes you have type 2, also here everyone does the same. And! We get less than what people with type 2 get. Ridiculous! I already wrote here that I could have got surgery here with a BMI of 35 if I had had type 2 instead of type 1. But type 1 doesn't get it. :censored:

Everything is always type 2, I looked up on the internet and most of the articles are about type 2.

Being in the USA at least you get the chance to consult different centres, even if they might be farther away from your place. I'd do that if I were you.

Let us know how it goes on!

  3. Hello Billie Jo and welcome!

I think we all shared your fears before surgery.

I "only" have to lose 81 lbs and it's going down slowly compared to other people, but it keeps going down and it's an amazing feeling. You will lose because you have decided to turn your life aorund. And you'll love yourself more when you start seeing all the weight coming off.

I still can't imagine myself weighing 128 lbs, I still can't believe I am going to get there one day seriously!

All you feel is absolutely normal.

About anesthesia... I don't know... I wasn't scared at all and I remember it as the best dreamless sleep of my life!

  4. I have no idea how to avoid appetizers. I am struggling with them too. Here in Torino instead of having dinner out we often just have an "aperitivo" or appetizer. You just pay for a drink (between 7 and 10 euros) and you can eat all what you want from the buffet, or the waiters keep bringing stuff. There are any kinds of appetizers: from small amounts of Pasta to pieces of sandwiches, crisps, fries, cheese, salamis, anything you can imagine. No Proteins, if you don't count the cheese on the mini pizzas!

It was born in Milan then many cities adopted it too.

Gosh, it's a nightmare, but it's a very common way to have this type of "dinner" with friends (because it's cheap and doesn't really require dressing up for a restaurant).

I haven't learnt how to manage it either. Yesterday I had a glass of wine (I drunk a couple of sips) and a mini pizza. I did feel guilty, thank goodness I was full straight away!

I don't have a solution but I share the same kind of problem!

  5. Great topic. It made me realise I am not being good... I am doing my best, though...

-I am 2 months and 2 days out. I have lost 17 kgs out of 37 I am supposed to lose (37.4 pounds out of 81.4). I am REALLY satisfied.

-I eat 4 times a day: Breakfast, lunch, mid afternoon and dinner. Not a big amount of food.

-I am definitely not getting the 80 gr Proteins in, but my nutritionist told me to stop the Protein shakes last time I saw him, so this isn't really my fault! (I guess in Italy people are just not used to this kind of things).

-I do get my Vitamins through effervescent supplements which I add to Water twice a day, it helps me drink Water as well, I am definitely not drinking enough... Probably 3 big glasses of water a day.

-I introduce an average of 600 kcal per day during the week, while on weekends sometimes up to 1000 if I go out for lunch/dinner (I normally have a glass of wine, this is why)

-I go twice a week to the gym for 1.5 hour.

-I am super tired, but at the moment everyone is. We are having a very hot spring (30° C or 86°F), which is unusual for us living next to Alpes, my hubby and I feel like sleeping all the time, shame we can't!

-And I don't feel cold. I read that many people do, after vsg, I absolutely don't.

  6. Hello! Glad to hear you found our experience useful!

During surgery and in the days right after it I had quite high blood sugar, I was told that that's because your body is under a lot of stress. The hospital will take care of you. You should definitely ask your diabetologist how much insulin you should take after surgery. I am still off the pump right now but I'm going back on it NeXT week. Right now I use lantus before going to bed and humalog before meals. I wanted to leave my belly alone for awhile after surgery.

Lantus does give me low blood sugar sometimes. I bought toffee candies that easily melt in my mouth and I keep them everywhere: next to my bed, in my bag, in the kitchen... Something else that can help you is caffeine free tea with sugar: I used to keep a bottle of it in my fridge and drink it if needed. These few calories are not going to interfere with your diet, do not worry!

  7. I haven't met a stall yet but in this case people normally tell you to be sure you track your food every single day. Count your calories. Do you see a nutritionist on a reguar basis?

Do you know how many calories you consume every day?

Do you know what food kills your diet? I know that, no matter how many calories I eat, if I eat carbs I can kiss my weight loss goodbye. That's me, I know it's different for everyone.

Try to remember how motivated you were right after your surgery. You have a tool that will help you stick to a diet, but you have to be on a diet...
