Thoughts the day before my surgery....
For me what you have said reminds me of myself. I have been the "fat chick" (on and off) since about the summer going to 10th grade. It all started that summer when I fell in love and started having sex. Oh how I wish I could turn back time! Life has been cruel to me, but I have been cruel to life. Instead of turning the other cheek, I have punched back at it! WRONG! I understand that this is a lifestyle change for the better and I wish I didn't have to go to Mexico to do it, but my insurance doesn't pay for weight loss surgery as of now. They say maybe in 5 or 10 years??? I DON'T HAVE 5 YEARS!!! I will die if I don't do something now and leave a young child who is 6 now and an older daughter who is almost 20 motherless. I lost my own mother 2 years ago at the age of 42 and I can tell you it was the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in my life. I am tearing up just talking about it. I have to admit that it has made me a better person. My mother was the best! She would not want me to mourn her like I did, and I used food to wash the grief down. Now I'm in this boat that I have to do something now. Exercise they say!!! Haha.....when I walk through Walmart my back starts hurting. I take 1 to 1 1/2 pain meds per day just to get through daily life. I cannot clean my entire house in one day. It takes me weeks and it never stays clean at the same time. I want that to stop!!! This is insane! I want my old life back.............whatever that was because I was never this fat before in my life. It is truly effecting my everyday life!

Calling all May Sleevers!
Hello, I am having my sleeve done on May 13, 2011 with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana, MX. I started my liquid diet today as prescribed! I did start eating only one meal over the weekend too.

Vitamins????
If anybody can tell me what Vitamins they have purchased for post-sleeve I would greatly appreciate it. I'm having mine done this Friday and my surgeron will give me a list, but I would like to pre-buy them before hand.... Thanks!!!

I Became A Drunk After My Gastric Sleeve Surgery
All I can say is that you should pray, pray, pray, and then pray some more. I was hit with that dreaded disease of alcoholism for many years, but with lots of prayers I finally overcame it. I don't even like the stuff anymore!

You know you have started your liquid diet when....
Ha ha, I like this!!! I start my pre-op liquid diet Tuesday and I am not looking forward to it!!!

Keep Your Fingers Crossed...Please!!! Appeal was DENIED, now what??
We have BCBS of Louisiana and our insurance excludes it completely. They don't even let you appeal it! So I'm going to Mexico nextt week and doing it!!! Have you considered this as an option?

Feeling Overwhelmed
You will be fine! My surgery is on May 13 in Mexico so I know how apprehensive you can feel...

The waiting game
I am so impatient so maybe its best for me that my insurance completely excludes weight loss surgery. I'm going to Dr. Ramos-Kelly next week to have my sleeve done...

Negative WLS peers
For many years I read about and researched RNY and then came the lapband. I wasn't sold on either one because first I thought the RNY was too dang invasive and entrusive to me . As for the lapband, well having something foreign in my body didn't go over well with me especially after having norplant in my arms for 5 years and bleeding for 5 years because of it! So when I got to this weight and realized that if I didn't have something done I would die, I started researching again and found the sleeve and sleeve plication. I decided on the sleeve because its less invasive than re-routing your intestines and the fact that they take out that hormones that cause your body to want to eat! Thats my major problem. I eat all the time as a form of comfort. If I were you, I would not talk with that person until after having your surgery done or avoid her if at all possible. Show her that weight loss surgery can be successful if you follow the rules!

Cheap flights
I need to find cheap flights from NOLA or BTR to San Diego. My daughter is willing to come with me but she wants to bring a friend to be with while I'm in surgery and in the hospital. The cheapest I can find for myself are over $300 round trip which isn't bad. Had i booked this last week I could have gotten flights for a little more than $200..... HELP!

Day 3 on my 2 week Pre Op Diet....
OK, so I started by pre-op diet on the 17th because originally I was going to have my procedure done in the states, but changed my mind due to insurance not paying. So anyways it took a few days and then I didn't feel hungry at all and just ate my stuff because I had to for fuel to the body. I had originally lost 5 lbs in 5 days. Then came Easter and I drank a few white russian daiquiris and ate steak, etc. That threw me back and it is taking me a few extra days to get back on track. I gained a lb. back, but since I have been eating on-plan this entire week I have lost that lb plus 2 more so I'm down to 7 gone. I have to say that I feel so much better and have a lot more energy than before.....

New girl needs moral support
I'm having mine done in Metairie and it cost $13,600 and all financed through Chase which is through the doctor's office. Could you get a loan like that? I'm weary about going to Mexico. I have a neighbor who did that and almost died seriously, they thought she was going to die when she got back home. I didn't know this at the time it was happening. Today I went for my blood work and I told my doctor about Mexico being so cheap and he reminded me about one of his patients who almost lost her life with staff infection after going to Mexico for this procedure. I"m not saying they are not good, but I know someone who almost died from it. She later on went to the doctor I am going to now and had her procedure done and its worked wonders for her.

Am I in denial?
I've told a few people, but choose not to broadcast it over facebook is all. Its nobody's business and I would tell if asked, but if someboyd belittles me about it, I will just turn the other cheek.

So sad that tomorrow is not my surgery date
I know that I would be very upset, but all I can say is that ask yourself what is best for you? I'm sure the doctors know what's best or they would be doing it today. Also offer up your impatience to God. Sometimes this can be very helpful for me.... Good luck!

I made it through day 5 on the pre op liquid diet
I always host Easter for my family. No problem, I"m going to have my ribeye steak, but instead of fattening side dishes, I'll be making some healthier things. Grilled asparagus for sure, but instead of using butter what should I use?

Getting there....one more month of pre-op
Hi there! I' new but noticed your post yesterday before I joined. I am also taking classes but I'm doing mine on-line to finish up my bachelor's degree. It has been a long 2 1/2 years but I'm almost done. I have 2 more weeks left of this class and then 2 more (5-week) classes remaining. My completion or grad date is July 11, 2011. I'm planning on becoming a teacher; therefore I have to enroll in a certification program. Here in the Louisiana there are special guidelines to get certified and it cannot be done at any institution, therefore I will be enrolling in grad school for the fall semester. Its only one more semester between getting certified and getting certified with a master's degree so I'm going for it!!! Most of my weight gain has occurred in the past 2 1/2 years. Dealing with school while working full-time and raising a family has been hard, but also I lost my mother 2 months after I began school. That was the hardest and most difficult time of my life. She died of lung cancer and I took a hiatus from life and 18 months. I just didn't care which put me up 75 lbs and I was already very heavy. Now I'm severly morbidly obese and not just obese. I feel guilty now for letting myself go and not caring, but that is life right? So I'm a cash patient because insurance doesn't cover weight loss surgery right now. I don't have the time to wait. If I wait any longer my 6 year old and almost 20 year old daughter may be motherless and I cannot let that happen to her. She is too precious to me! My paternal grandmother died at the age of 48 from having 2 major strokes within days of each other. She was not overweight like I am nor did she live the lifestyle that I have. So, I'm a ticking time bomb waiting to go off! I'm not scared to die, but I'm worried what will happen to my 2 daughters. They don't deserve this and they are my reasons for doing this! They are the reason I wake up in the morning and go to a job that I don't like. My surgery is a working progress but should be around mid-May. I have a blood work tomorrow morning and then its seeing the doctor and scheduling surgery. I also have to take some classes on-line. That's about it in a nutshell...
