January 19... 67 pounds.... after TWO YEARS! We are in this for the long haul, please do not compare your weight loss with others or feel bad if your don't stack up...(even if it is sooo tempting to see if we are normal or not...), we are all different.... if we get to our goals, that is all that counts. Im not loosing any weight after VSG surgery
You may have to break your recipes down in myfitnesspal. Such as: 1/2 cup rice 1t oil 1 cup greens 1/2 cup fava Beans or whatever your recipe is... there is a place in MFP where you can put in your recipes and how many servings, and go back and check it in without having to list all the ingredients every time... You can make your own smoothie with yogurt and fruit or Protein powder.... I do not worry about the carbs so much... eat protein first, then salad and veg, then carbs.... don't worry about carbs in milk products or beans, it is healthy for you in my opinion. I am 2 years out, and you can eat more at this time. Fill up on veggies if you are still hungry. For exercise you can dance around the house... march in place in front of the TV or to the radio...youtube has good exercises. I take belly dance lessons, and dance around the house... there are lots of good lessons on youtube. If it is proper in your neighborhood, you could take walks with your son after school at a park or in a mall. It is so sad that your Doctor is so uninformative and rude to you. He sounds like his "bedside manners" are horrible. Best of luck to you.

Frozen Yogurt Six days out?
Two years out... I'm on a bender eating frozen yog 3 times a week. I keep it small and low/non fat. I skip the sugar free because the sugar alcohol gets to me. I log everything I eat, and pay the price by not eating something else, or exercising a little bit more. I also bought the ice cream maker to make eggfaces protein ice cream recipes. I just got a new blender with a smoothy setting... I take an ESA carb control protein drink, a few ice cubes and a 1/8 cup of peanut flour...wizz it up and so YUM. Also 25 gms of protein. I think it is always wise to keep to the Drs plan... especially early out... that tender little tummy needs lots of TLC. Don't make it digest more than it has too early out...plenty of time to test the water later!(as if water is the problem child!)...oh and by all means, go ahead and eat the pets wether you paid for them or not... they are non carb!(unless your pet is a potato)

Where are the 50s ???
I will be 60 in June 2013. I had the surgery 2 years ago last January 19th. I lost to 8 pounds from a modest goal. Then I had a knee problem, stopped the gym, and had inlaws visit for 10 weeks. Dont get me wrong, I love them, but nothing like happy hour every night, dinners out and special home dinners for that long. Gained 18 pounds. I have stopped gaining, and am maintaining for 2 months now. Im back at the gym, I started lifting twice a week, I dance twice a week, and I walk twice a week. I also work in the garden right now and have been shoveling, digging, weeding and pruning. I just bought a fitbit, and am watching my quality of sleep and steps. I am figuring out how much energy I use every day, then eating between that and my BMR. This is much more food than I have been used too and I feel much better. Im not as obsessed with food when I eat more(of the right things) I don't know if I will lose any more or not, I am trying to eat quality, have fun while moving more, and sleep enough hours a night. I am falling short of drinking water, and need to work harder at that...(or smarter) Anyway, All in all Im pretty happy with it all, I have more energy and enjoy physical activity much more than before the surgery. For my 60th birthday I am dying my hair blue. No growing old gracefully for me girls. The sleeve is a great tool, it has not let me down yet, but it is not an end all do everything treasure. The first few months its kind of easy to think you will always feel the way you do then. Thats just part of the ride, but don't assume that this is the case. Cheers all!

I see some people here who are years out eating 800 a day... Im sure they are thinner than I, but it takes 1600 to get enough nutrition to fuel your body without losing muscle 9I have been told) I managed to lose a lot of weight on extra low calories, and ended up training my body to live on less.... I dont think that is really a good idea. People who eat only 800 cals a day to maintain might be labeled with an eating disorder if not for being under a Drs care....I just don't feel so frantic about food when I eat more. I do not want to gain all my weight back, and watch it pretty close... but I have been maintaining now, and am adjusting some things trying to get a little bit more off in a heathy way. I have a fitbit now (just two days) and the last two days (non exercise/gym days) I have been burning 2100 cals a day. I look forward to seeing what that is on my walking and gym days. So eating around 1600 or so on my non exercise days still leaves me with a 500 cal deficit a day. I am NOT losing on this... but I just think if I keep this up I may be able to train my body to not hang on to every calorie so tightly like it has been for the last year. I eat most of the calories I use up on exercise days as well.

Indian Hindus are veggie, Indian Muslims not... I have been working on upping my calories for a couple of months.. I was eating 1200 and NOT losing. I found a plan where you eat more to lose... I have not lost, but have not gained... and eat 4-800 more cals a day. Much better.

Everyone draws a line someplace. Perhaps you wont eat dog, but cows are ok, perhaps you will only eat meat that comes from animals you have killed. Just like any other system, we each find our own boundaries...perhaps dictated by a clan or culture, or perhaps from personal conviction. Who cares what it is called really, names are just a way to generally show where you are coming from or your affiliation. Its made up.I have even heard of vegetarian palios! Some Vegans are militant. I can see their point. ONce you see the position we put animals in for our eating pleasure... its not as hard to go to this position.

...my list is so long it would take up a page! Have you guys tried yuba? Here is a recipe for yuba "ribs" which could pass for jerkey if cooked a little longer... made it with korean bbq sauce (too salty for me) then a Peanut Butter sauce...yum... I think sweet chili sauce will be next.... yuba is the skin from the soy milk making process, you can get it diferent ways, but this recipe uses the dry stick form... Im going to get some more today! Its good chopped up in a stir fry, with rice, on a sandwich.... http://www.artisanveganlife.com/game-day-fare-bbq-ribs/ this one looks good too.... http://chowvegan.com/2009/10/20/veganmofo-bbq-yuba-ribs/

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
I think just log what you log. If I cant be bothered with the ketchup, I round up something else to add a few cals. I skip logging cabbage, a slice of tomato and such....that being said, I use a lot of the same stuff regularly, and its on the list, so I just adjust the amount and check it in. Its a little obsession to do it perfect, and I have to say Im not perfect, but I am regular and that seems to help a lot. I just ordered a fitbit which will add an other tool to the toolkit as well... logging some kinds of activities. It works with myfitnesspal.

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
I am just in the early weeks of this plan, but would be glad to share. I was scared to go up in calories... so did it in two steps, went from about 1200 to 1500 to 1800. I do not feel as compulsive about food. I am not as hungry. Some days I have to make myself eat a Protein Bar or something to make sure I get my calories in. At 1200 this was not the case! My weight is mostly staying the same so far. (up a pound, down a little more than a pound so far) When I am hungry I usually still have calories to use up and can eat. I figure my calories day by day, depending on how much my output is... I go to the gym two days a week, and can eat around 2000 a day on these days, I walk two days a week and can eat around 1700 then, the days is sit on my butt I eat around 1600. It averages out to around 1800. I am trying to keep and gain muscle... lose inches, then pounds if I can. On this plan they say one might gain a few pounds before losing them. (gaining while on the "reset" part where you eat your full TDEE, which for me is around 2100 a day. I have not done a reset yet)I just know that I feel like eating minus 1200 a day is not all that healthy or sustainable for me.

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
I have been finding out the details on this site/group on myfitnesspal.com at: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/3817-eat-more-to-weigh-less I average 1800 a day....which is what I should eat to maintain goal.I still need to lose around 18 pounds to get there. One eats about 10-20% below the TDEE to lose around one pound a week. I am losing slower than that. If I were to really follow their directions, I should be eating at TDEE -over 2100 cals a day.... for 5-6 weeks then slowly drop to 1800 to start losing. The idea is to eat at your expenditure, get your body used to living on full calories for a while, then when you drop a little, it will let the weight go slowly....and avoiding teaching the body to live on very little (like 800-1200 a day)With this plan patients is key, slow slow slow....but who cares if you can actually get to goal (which I have never done yet eating much less) Check out the site, it bears reading.

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Im still eating more as a plan. I log everything, and am back to exercise, adding in some weight lifting twice a week. I have gone from 1200 to 1800 a day with no weight gain. I fact I have lost about a pound. I just don't see how eating 1200 a day and staying the same weight can be the best way to go. If I had been losing some pounds on that, I may have never changed my plan, but I feel so much better eating more... so far so good. I hear from many folks on the net that eating more is a good way to lose very slowly... and slowly it is for me! I will keep this up and report back on my long term findings using the TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) plan.... I also bought a fitbit to figure our how many steps I take and my real energy output for daily life.

Hey you guys...
