feast day calories
I really think you cant get in enough nutrition on 600 every day. So sorry your body does this thing! The TDEE is how much you burn with your BMR plus any other calories burned. The BMR is just the calories you need to survive... in bed or resting. Im not sure if these formulas reflect the same accuracy on everyone.... But thats the idea anyway.

Well intentioned relatives
The kind of dancing I do (Belly Dance) really shows how my skin has a mind of its own. It goes one way while my muscles and bones go the other! My teacher (who is awesome!) keeps saying pull that gut in, don't let it hang! I think she must be talking to me, but really probably to everyone... but my gut does hang, cause it has a mind of its own! I also have about a 2 or part of a 4 pack, but the other two are hidden under skin. I work to not downgrade this part of myself... I think I am very lucky with my skin, it has bounced back pretty well for a 60 year old. I try to keep positive, and am happy I look good in cloths. My husband keeps telling me, "I'm glad you haven't lost all the smooshy parts!" He loves them. I'm glad about that.

disinterested in food
At times I found I just needed to treat fool like medicine. I needed it to live, to thrive, so I ate what I needed to... cooked and measured and counted. Ate my veggies and fruit and protein. My hunger came back stronger later. Occasionally my hunger is really down, but it only lasts for a meal or two. Usually, I love food, and eagerly plan what I will cook/eat in a day.

How was your 5:2 day today?
My nephew was stationed in Iraq twice. I can never know how it really was for him... Rough. Friends died, good and bad...I have to say he has grown up a lot. You take care, don't need to add any more stress than you already have on your shoulders girl. New low. 175.2. Started 5:2 13 weeks ago at 190.9. And fasting again tomorrow, so hope it sticks around for a while (or less of course) Now about one pound from my WLS low. I am so happy this is working for me. I go in for a checkup in 5 weeks, and it sure would be cool to be at goal!

Well intentioned relatives
You guys know what is the most attractive thing about a man? Love of life. LIfe in the big sense. I have known men with a pasty paunch, no hair, deformities, disease and brain damage who have IT, and they are positively magnetic. It adds a glimmer to any body possessing it. Those with vivation need not worry about what is conventionally less than perfect. (whatever that is). I thought I had made up the word "Vivation" so I looked it up to make sure it was not something creepy(hehehe....) and I saw that it is a real word and means exactly what I was meaning it to! Vivation is a form of meditation whose primary aim is the permanent and pleasurable resolution of suppressed negative emotions. The word "Vivation" comes from the Latin word vivé(to fully embrace life). Vivation integrates the core principles found in yoga, tantra, breathwork, and meditation so there and don't you forget it! This applies to the women folk as well!

What makes someone a veteran?
Your insight will help you so much! Part of the Vet experience includes the changes your body goes through... I guess a vet is someone who has exited the honeymoon phase! Its hard to see you are really there until you have been there a while....Some don't really see it for years! Congrats on winning your insurance challenge and your 88 pounds.

How was your 5:2 day today?
I didn't see it.... what the heck, I know I miss a post now and then, What a shock that must have been! Really I cant even imagine what that must have been like, take care of yourself Globe! While traveling I drove by a meadow where a bunch of people were standing at the edge and watching something, I looked over and saw a bunch of people.... I later (down the road) was told that was a boarder skirmish going on and people had been killed... It looked like "practice" to me... My mind could not wrap around the reality. (Thai boarder)

Your start date and start weight for the 5:2 method
That does suck! Maintaining? That is something at least....

A year out and im frustrated
Stalls suck. Congrats on the 53 though, thats great! My guess its not your exercise, sounds like you are doing great with that... do you still keep track of everything you eat, drink your water and such? You are a year out? Some of us over a year out are trying the 5:2 plan, and finding some success getting rid of the last few pounds. Look it up and see what you think... there is a show on PBS called "Eat, Fast, Live" (I think...) look it up, it is the basic beginning of the plan.

How long post-op did you need shakes?
Try 4-ever-fit fruit flavors, I think they are delicious, mixed with water, taste natural to me. Mango is my fav. I also mix and match the other flavors. http://4everfit.com/component/option,com_rokecwid/Itemid,112/view,ecwid/#!/~/category/id=3779697&offset=0&sort=normal

5:2 and women: Not much data yet, but...
I saw those articles too. I do not do Paleo and do not have any of the symptoms mentioned, so I just kind of moved past the articles. Swiz, by all means try a variation on the 5:2.

How was your 5:2 day today?
Is it harder to lose the older you get? Before WLS my high was 257.... I would lose and gain, but never over 257. During Perimenopause, I found it harder and harder to lose, easier and easier to gain, and I had to eat less and less to stay the same. At one point I just started to gain, got to 259 or so....my blood pressure, cholesterol, triglicerides all started climbing. I started exercising regularly (which I had never been very good at in the past) and this did not help. Thats when I decided WLS was on the table. My health was going down the drain, and I could not lose weight any longer on my own. (not that I could keep it off for that long in the past) I would have to say yes, it does get harder. That being said, I consider myself successful at this point, post menopause... so far.

How was your 5:2 day today?
OD, have a great time in Portland! I have never been there, but really want to go... have friends there too. UK Cathy, I work at a day program for adults with disabilities. Love my work. Today is a holiday, and with hubby back I think it would be easier to change my fast day to tomorrow where I can just cruse through it at work. I try not to flex this plan too much (when i bend something too much, sometimes it breaks!), but so happy I can now and then!

How long post-op did you need shakes?
at 2 1/2 years I still use 2-3 shakes a week. My doc doesn't mind. Shakes are fluids, and at least partially count towards water. Early on I used shakes like medicine, didn't really like them , but found some high protein ones and drank them down as much as needed to get in my protein (mine was also over 65). I did this as a vegetarian, so bean soup, greek yogurt and (after the lactose intolerance went away) cottage cheese, eggs, refried beans with cheese, peanut butter.... For me, I just wanted to get in as much nutrition as I could, so shakes for most of the protein, and lots of veggie soups for vitamins, fiber and yummyness! Of course now, I can eat anything! You will know it when you can get off of shakes, just keep trying other things now and then to see how they work for you.

Binge behavior
Sometimes I can say no. Somethings I choose not to. Sometimes I feel like I am out of control of the decision. I made the pact with myself, if I eat it, I write it down. This seems to really help. Its when I choose to eat it, and not write it down is when I seem to get TOO far out there, out of control, regain, even if I think I am eating OK.
