Is Actigall Necessary?
I took it for 6 months twice a day....I opened the caps and dumped them in a spoon of applesauce or pudding. Down the hatch. I REALLY did not want to have gallstones +an extra surgery!

Smoking After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Lets be honest here..if you thought it was perfectly fine you wouldn't have asked. My doc wouldn't operate on anyone who had smoked 30 days before surgery. Nicotine kills your circulation (hence smokers wrinkles) as well as other problems... other chemical components can cause problems too... Here is one medical paper that talks about it...there are many more listed on google... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1323208 I would say, if you must smoke, wait at least until your stomach heals... over 8 weeks. Please don't take these comments as rude... I think the people here are just looking out for your health and success... I am also an ex-smoker, and sometimes it is said that ex-smokers are the most down on smoking of anyone... I think this might be true! Abstract The association between cigarette smoking and delayed wound healing is well recognized in clinical practice, although extensive controlled studies have yet to be performed. The documented effects of the toxic constituents of cigarette smoke--particularly nicotine, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen cyanide--suggest potential mechanisms by which smoking may undermine expeditious wound repair. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor that reduces nutritional blood flow to the skin, resulting in tissue ischemia and impaired healing of injured tissue. Nicotine also increases platelet adhesiveness, raising the risk of thrombotic microvascular occlusion and tissue ischemia. In addition, proliferation of red blood cells, fibroblasts, and macrophages is reduced by nicotine. Carbon monoxide diminishes oxygen transport and metabolism, whereas hydrogen cyanide inhibits the enzyme systems necessary for oxidative metabolism and oxygen transport at the cellular level. Slower healing has been observed clinically in smokers with wounds resulting from trauma, disease, or surgical procedures. The reduced capacity for wound repair is a particular concern in patients undergoing plastic or reconstructive surgery. Compared with nonsmokers, smokers have a higher incidence of unsatisfactory healing after face-lift surgery, as well as a greater degree of complications following breast surgery. Smokers should be advised to stop smoking prior to elective surgery or when recovering from wounds resulting from trauma, disease, or emergent surgery.

Regret
What specifically is the thing that is bothering you? My doc said that incidents of depression can escalate with the sleeve... or is it expectations not met... pain.... Almost ALL people with regrets at the beginning change their minds about that... hope this is you too!

Recovering Drug Addict
I am not recovering, but I only took pain killers one time the day after surgery... and I probably could have gotten by without. Now the day at the hospital was another story... but both my nurses said I used the pump much less than most. Just let them know your desires up front, and they might be able to find pain killers that are not habit forming for you. Good luck with that!

New To Sleeve Talk
Just take your time looking through the forums, you will get the hang of it. Lots of people have had Dr Aceves as a surgeon here too. There is a search function to find spacific posts, and the "view new content" helps you to find the newest posts. You can also access your own content under the menu that pops out when you click on your name in the upper right. Perhaps if your family checked out this site, it would help them understand...?

I Think I May Have Stretched My Gastric Sleeve...
I pretty much ate what I wanted when I wanted for a few days there... bounced up 4 pounds (I can bounce about 3 pounds when eating everything right) but the scale was telling me something for sure... I started a lax version of Divas boot camp two days ago and lost it all back down to my lowest so far. At 11 months my restriction is still good. I can eat more than at 3 months, but it seems to be the same as about 7 months. Hurray for the sleeve!

I Think I May Have Stretched My Gastric Sleeve...
I'm on the second day of Divas bootcamp and lost 2 pounds the first day. I just had to mostly dump the refined carbs for a while and get back on track. You know what you need to do, start by writing it all down somewhere... fitday or myfitnesspal... that really helps to get a hold of what you are doing to yourself. No regrets now, just do it.

Worst Foods You Can Eat With The Gastric Sleeve
Early on I was lactose intolerant. Lucky for me that went away by about the 6th week or so. Now I can eat anything in moderation. I can have a little "dumping" with too much sugar, which I try to use in only small amounts. Read up on cocoanut... it can really cause you problems....search it here...

Eating Too Much?
46 pounds in 6 weeks is very good. I would not compare my weight loss to others, we are all different. I would watch the sugar until you lose much of your weight. It might not be very many calories (you do log your food don't you to keep track?) but sugar has a tendency to make you hungry... the more you eat, the more you want.... Some foods are "sliders" and just mush up and slide right down... perhaps salad is that for you. LIke PDXman said, eat your protein first to make sure you get the restriction and your requirements, then if you want a treat later, how about surgar free pudding cup, a SF hard candy or jello.... I would stay away from cookies or cupcakes... I know they are yum, but you are here for a lifestyle change, and follow your Docs plan as close as you can so you will have not regrets or slower weight loss than you can..... the honeymoon phase does not last forever. It gets harder to lose and slower later on....At 11 months I had quiet a few sugar treats this christmas and had a weight gain... Im back on the streight and narrow for a week, to shake that sugar craving and lose those extra pounds! Jump back on girl, you are doing great with the weight loss!

What Was Your Bmi When You Were Sleeved?
If you don't get the sleeve, then what will your life be in 30 years? I just know that at 58 I was starting to fall apart, and the excess weight was not helping at all.

Dreaded 3-week Stall - Info?
Search the forums... you will find lots of comments about it... I had it starting at 2 1/2 weeks, lasted over 4 weeks. I really dont think there is anything you can do about the early stalls... just follow the plan, chill out and know your body will do what it wants and needs to do to keep you healthy. It has been very "injured", is losing weight very fast, you are eating strangely, and sometimes the body just stops losing and tries to maintain. The weight will start coming off in a while. Not everyone gets the stall... but many do. You can try switching up your eating or exercise... drinking more water...getting more protein... as far as I can tell, nothing really works until your body wants to let go of the weight. Just keep on plan, and try not to stress, that does Not help. Come here and bit@h.... that does help!

What Do These Symptoms Mean?!?
I did not have this, but it sounds like esophageal spasms... someone here said she sipped warm liquid to calm the spasms. Herbal tea or broth... hope it helps, if not, call your surgeon. They do go away.
