  1. I figure it this way, my Doc does not forbid drinking your Protein (shakes, bean soups and such), and I managed to lose a bunch of weight when all I could have was mushy protein, soups and over cooked veggies... So having a bowl of soup chock full of mushy veggies sometimes with a few chunks of TVP or Gluten or a poached egg in it is not a diet breaker for me. I don't eat dense solid food at the same time as soup, and generally don't drink anything with solid meals. I do however want to eat more veggies then I can manage in the room I have in my tummy after eating protein first. I eat 4-5 meals a day, and during these cold months, soup has been one of them.... sometimes without any protein in it at all... just veggies for veggies sake. YUM!
  2. Reporting in girls! The scales dropped .8 pounds below my last low...I haven't been able to change my ticker in 5 weeks. I have been in a 3-4 pound bounce for most of that...There is hope! I was really feeling like I was at the end of my weightloss. I only change the ticker when I get to a new low number.
  3. I started working on my physical fitness and balance about a year and a half before my surgery. Like yecats, it was a last ditch effort to lose the weight once and for all... My knees did not like it, or my feet and ankles.... I could just tell I was going to end up in a wheelchair if didn't claim back my health. After staying the same weight, then starting to gain with new meds, I started looking into WLS. I had been taking dance classes twice a week, and lead a 45 minute walk twice a week with adults with developmental disabilities. I still do this and add in other stuff now and then, gardening, walking the dog and hiking now and then. I picked dance class because I wanted to improve my balance and grace...I also love having a nice group of friends I have made during dance class. We go out and attend festivals, performances and dance faires. When I started, I felt like I was clunking around and it was hard... but I made a plan to practice for at least 5 years and have at least one public performance. Taking the long view has helped me to stick with it and look for results that only can be seen over the long run. Find something you can get into, that you enjoy the view, or like the competition, or like the isolation... whatever you like. There are lots of ways to get more active.
  4. Wow Fox! You have gone through a lot! Did you have a chance to have some adventures in CR before your surgery? Hope all goes well for you, You are really going through a big transformation right now, that is awesome.
  5. The trick is to not beat yourself up, just get back on track. Its part of being human! And there is no learning without failure.
  6. I eat my protein first, but try to get as many veggeis in as I can. I make veggie soup, which goes down very easily, and I can eat quite a bit. I also eat raw, but that came later, after about 4 months. Some raw I still can't eat... peels and such.
  7. A total of eight patients (30.8%) were at chronic need for proton pump inhibitor medication due to severe reflux. Plasma ghrelin levels were reduced from 593 +/- 52 to 219 +/- 23 pg/ml 12 months postoperatively, with a slightly, non-significant increase toward the 5-years values of mean 257 +/- 23 pg/ml. CONCLUSIONS: At 5-year follow-up, a mean EWL of 55.0 +/- 6.8% was achieved, indicating that SG leads to stable weight loss. Beside significant weight regain, severe reflux might necessitate conversion to gastric bypass or duodenal switch. After an immediate reduction postoperatively, plasma ghrelin levels remained low for the first 5 years postoperatively.
  8. Did pretty well today... 1200 cals, 80 pro and 55 carbs. I also went to dance class for 1 hour 10 minutes and worked in the yard for about 30 minutes.
  9. This study talks about a durable ghrelin loss.... http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/20094819 from this page: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/22835-5-year-study/
  10. I don't believe the rny pouch stretches back to regular size...the stoma stretches and lets the food fall through or exit quickly and allows one to eat more quickly without feeling full.
  11. I'm in Coops... I'm back into my "bounce" range, but not at the lowest the last few days... I only have 7 pounds to "Normal" and a few more to goal... Would really like to see that scale read my goal weight or LESS this year! I have been at this weight range for many months... got to shake it up....Go get'em girls!
  12. I'm cold hot cold hot cold hot... I think my hormones must be a mess! Im almost 12 months out and was through menopause before surgery...
  13. If the world ends, at least we will be lookin' good!
  14. I did that with red wine years ago... couldn't drink it for about 10 years after...
  15. I think your version is better than mine... I just drank the 6-8 glasses of water, not the gallon... and had a tiny amount of fruit with my meals (a few raisins on my cottage cheese... a half a pear on my salad with blue cheese and walnuts) ... but mostly it was a variety of protein, veggies (mostly brussels sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli and a little bit of carrots...) almond butter, cheese, greek yogurt, tofu and gluten. Really it was not that hard, and I could feel the restriction with the protein first... the sleeve was working. I cut the carb craving enough to get back to a realistic level of carbs and not the "Party like there is no tomorrow and I want MORE chocolate" levels. Moderation! Who would have thunk?!
  16. I thought the drinks were repulsive too, but for goodness sakes, sometimes you just have to take your medicine! At least until your stomach is healed and you can get your protein from real food... If your not throwing up from the drinks, then I say, drink them! They will help you heal and not loose muscle, and get strong and get in part of your fluid too. Its only a couple of months, then you never have to look at them again. I actually got to like some of them after a while... and they do make it so much easier to get in your protein. At 11 months out I use drinks a couple of times a week to get in a low carb and high protein low calorie meal when I don't have much time, or just need something really on track in the middle of the day. They can be your friend, and when your taste buds get a little back to normal, the right ones are not half bad.
  17. I did the Kim version of Divas bootcamp for two days, and I lost all the weight I had gained over the holidays. I'm back to my standard eating like before the holidays and am doing fine. It really helped me grab hold of myself and stop the madness quickly. (FYI 4 pounds in two days!)
  18. I had an out of pocket co-pay of $3000. It was tough to scrape it up, but I will be saving so much on health expences in the future because of this investment in my health now. My Drs office said that the hospital could work out a payment plan if I needed it as well... Check out all your options before you give up. Some Drs are starting to add a surgeons fee on top of other fees- outside of co pays and such... if they said they were free, perhaps they ment they did not charge a surgeons fee... just guessing here...
  19. oh and make sure you measure yourself early on... now...... if you haven't already... you will lose inches at a different rate than pounds... sometimes the scales say the same thing, the tape says you lose....
  20. Dehydration will cause dizziness. Sip sip sip...and walk walk walk. I know you feel like staying in bed, but make sure you walk every couple of hours... to the mail box or the end of the block. I would walk around the block and at times feel so light headed. My doc insisted all of his patients take 6 weeks off from work. I would have to say that was a little long for me, but 4 weeks was perfect. You really do have to think of all the changes in the first month as a job in itself! Drink drink and walk walk. You will feel better soon.
  21. 99 percent ARE positive. I had my surgery done on Jan 18 2011 and have never looked back.
