  1. Hi Everyone! Just finished day one of my preop diet - 10 days of liquids, the last 3 days are Clear Liquids. I felt pretty decent all day, then this evening I started getting that restless "I want something to snack on" feeling. I did manage to make it past that, but it wasn't easy! Day 1 down, bring on Day 2!!! lol. I might be eating the paint off the walls before July 15th gets here!!

Hi kathy!! You made me laugh out loud! I too am on my pre-op, although not liquid. I'm scheduled on the 15th with Aceves.

I'm having a hard time with my "food" preop, 30g carbs and about 80g Proteins. Given how hard I'm struggling, I'm giving you a HIGH FIVE for making it through day one! Go girl!!!

You know, I quit smoking last sunday, after 25 years!! Every morning when I wake up, I tell myself "TODAY, I will not smoke". And guess what, ITS WORKING! Half the battle is with the brain!!

Stay strong, and leave me some paint chips! :)

  2. Hello from Toronto!

I understand 100%. I was a smoker, quit LAST SUNDAY! I've been a smoker for 20 years, but have only been smoking 12-15 cigs a day for the last 10 years. I quit because it was time, and this was punctuated by my surgery date on the 15th of July. My Dr. wanted me to quit 2 weeks before surgery.

I have quit in the past, about 7 years ago, but stressful events in my life had me returning to the nasty habit! I had quit for 6 months, a real shame to return after that period of time.

Alas, we move on, and try, try again! My quitting this time is part of my overall change of attitude! I want to get healthy, so I can play with my children, and feel good physically again! It's a lifesyle choice, and I am now chosing to control my habits, like smoking and eating and lack of exercise, rather than letting them control me! It's rather empowering me...and I'm feeling like I'm taking back my life, step by step.

I'm using the patch, and it's working well. Try taking it off about 15 minutes before bed...the dreams and restlessness should stop...

Stay strong, and breathe deeply everytime the urge creeps up on you...seems to be working for me. Staying away from "triggers" like coffee, alcohol ect is important.

I KNOW you can do this....

    Best of luck!

  3. Hello Everyone,

I'm located in Toronto, and due to be Sleeved by Dr. Aceves on 15th of July, 2010. I have been reading all the posts on this awesome website, and thanks to all the great information, and wonderful support found here, I've decided to take control, and change my life!!

I've just started working with a Holistic Nutritionalist, and am currently trying to find a trainer who will start working with me 8 weeks post op.

I'm pumped and ready! My husband is very supportive, and is 100% behind me, which is awesome! I have 2 children, 8 and 10 yrs, and they just know that mommie has stopped smoking (finally) and is getting healthy and fit. They too are very supportive of my new "get fit" attitude!

The one thing I find that I could really use is a "buddy" who has gone through this....while my nutritionalist has had experience with other gastric surgeries, she is very focused on the holistic side of things, which is great, but not necessarily practical (I think).

So, is there any CANADIAN'S out there who have been throught this? I say "Canadians" because I'm finding it very difficult to find a lot of the food and protien items the USA sleevers mention or discuss in the forums, and am hoping to connect with someone in Ontario, or Canada who knows were to buy this stuff, rather than having it shipped up from the USA at a crazy price!

If you'd like to buddy with me, I would be most eager and greatful!:)

  4. Greetings fellow July sleevers!

I'm scheduled with Dr. Aceves on 15th of July, and am getting excited. I've arranged for my husband to stay at the hotel while I'm in the hospital. He's 6'6 and there is no way he can sleep on the couch in my room, poor guy!

I've been having some difficulties the last week, trying to find a nutritionalist who can work with me pre op and post op. I wanted someone supportive with the WLS aspect, and someone with a background in Bariatric Surgery. I found her this morning, and am so excited! I'm thinking that working with a registared dietitian is the best thing for me, because I'm so confused with all the pre op and post of "do's and dont's". I found a good website www.bariatriceating.com. Not sure if anyone has visited, but it seems great! Especially for us newbies. I've also purchased 3 WLS cookbooks, and boy are they packed with great information. All available on the web, just source Weight Loss Cookbooks and they will all pop up! Has anyone else decided to work with a dietitian or nutritionalist?

I'd also started doing some research to find a personal trainer! I've narrowed it down, and was just getting ready to "ink" the deal, and decided to contact Dr Aceves to determine "when/what" I can do post op for excersize. I was suprised to learn I had to wait so long to start anything (other than walking). So, I've decided to shelve the personal trainer and gym membership until post surgery, and then at the 8 weeks post mark, look at starting up with the trainer/gym. Fortunatly for me, it's nice weather in the Toronto area, so the walking will be great as it's summer. Thank goodness I'm not doing this in FEB!

I'm sure each of you are getting excited, and are anxiously anticipating your July surgery!

I have no fear or anxiety, other than trying to figure out what to eat post op...

See you all on the other side...

    Be Happy,

    LaSaJaTa

  5. Hello, I just found this Forum on the Sleeve Talk website and was wondering if there were any fellow Canadians out there. I am waiting for my first appointment Nov 16th in Victoria with Dr Amson. I want to have the VSG and hopefully asap. The wait is about three years, from what I've been told, and unless I can find 15,000 dollars somewhere I'll be waiting it out LoL. I'd love to here from you!:biggrin0:

    Hi everyone,

I'm in Missisauga, and have just confirmed the 15th of July with Dr. Aceves! So excited. Gotta run, but will be back on to soon, so if anyone has any questions, let me know. Happy to share anything I can to promote this wonderful tool.

  6. I noticed a few July folks posting on other threads and thought there might be enough of us to start our own thread (rather than hijacking whatever threads we find with a July surgery in them) - so I invite anyone with a July surgery to post their story here so we can support each other and share our experiences.

I'm C and my surgery is scheduled with Dr. Aceves on 15 July. I'm 29 and married to an Army man - we're currently stationed in Germany. We have two year old boy/girl twins. I'm choosing to self-pay because Tricare does not currently cover VSG and none of the overseas military facilities do the procedure at this time. To complicate matters, our next assignment is (as of right now) in Yerevan, Armenia. Getting this surgery in a remote location like Armenia isn't even a possibility. I'm not willing to wait more than two more years for this surgery.

I started my research in the summer of 2008 when my doctor diagnosed me with Type II (I developed gestational diabetes with my twin pregnancy and it stuck around afterward) and suggested the band. After much research I decided the sleeve best suits my needs.

I'm 5'1" (and some change), 240 pounds and I would be happy with any weight under 160 pounds. I haven't weighed less than that in more than ten years and I have been plus-sized since high school.

Please, hop in and share your own stories so I can share this journey with others instead of doing it alone! If I am successful my mom would like to have the surgery, too, but she's very nervous because she has never had surgery before.

    ~C

    Hello clk!

Looks like we're both having our surgery the day, with Dr. Aceves! My husband is coming with me...and I'm so excited. Just got the pre-op diet, looks okay. I'm just confirming flights ect, and then I'll be all set!

  7. Hello Everyone!

I've been reading and reading and reading and found all the information and inspiration I needed to decide on getting "sleeved".

I'm in Mississauga, just outside of Toronto, Canada.

I'm just awaiting final confirmation for my surgery with Dr. Aceves! I'm hoping for the 15th of July...just waiting for my confirmation and a few questions to be answered.

I just celebrated my 13 year wedding anniversary with my husband, at am sad to say that at 5'7ish, I'm at my highest weight ever, 273lbs. How sad...2 children 8/10 years later. No energy to play, and so sad all the time about such a mess I've made of my body, health and life.

I've tried all the typical things..you know...but nothing worked long term. I had originally decided on the Band, but then, I happened upon this site, and my eyes were "opened" WIDE! I cannot believe this was available, the perfect TOOL to help me change my life! I'm soooo excited, and looking forward to starting my life, living with the real me!

I smoke, about 10 per day, and I know that I have to stop well before surgery. This is going to be my biggest challenge...not the pre op diet, or the food or changes afterward, but rather, this stupid dependancy on something so yukkie and unhealthy. BUT, I'm gonna try my hardest, and quit for good this time, while staying motivated to change my lifestyle! Yaya me!

I'll check back in once I know if my date is firm, I think there is another person here who is scheduled around the same time with Dr. Aceves.
