I had my first episode yesterday in a van full of people!! No one in the van knew I had the surgery and I really don't want them to know. I am sure they think I am pregnant. I felt sick and bloated the rest of the day.
  3. I am almost 6 weeks post op and I just started having temporary bouts of dizziness. It started Saturday during pilates, not while I was working out but after while I was laying on the reformer talking to the trainer. It has persisted off and on since then, mostly when I lay down. Has anyone else had issues like this? I have serious sinus/allergy issues as so it very well could be that???

    first fill

I had my first fill yesterday, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had built it up to be in my mind. I went back immediately and was weighed (down 5 pounds from last visit) then sent to the room. The nurse came in and commented on how great I look. She got the fill stuff ready, the doctor came in and felt around on the port; which was the worst part, then stuck the needle in. Nothing to numb me but it really wasn't that bad. I asked him to check out one of the incisions because it didn't seem to be healing as fast as the others. There was a stitch that hadn't dissolved so he had to dig it out. Now that hurt!! The doctor put 2cc in the band and will put another 2cc in Aug 31. He said I probably would start to feel restriction between 4 and 6cc but he would rather build up gradually because he finds it causes less problems.
  5. I have lost 12 pounds since being banded. I had my first fill yesterday, I had lost 5 pounds since my post op visit. The doctor said any loss at this point is great because it is mostly will power since there is no restriction. I got 2cc in my band and was told I will get another 2cc's in a month. He said that I probably won't feel any restriction until I am at 4 or 5cc's. Just hang in there I hear it gets easier.

    Happy with 1st Fill

Dr. Atkins did my surgery on June 30!! I love him and his staff. My first fill is Aug. 3 and I can't wait. How much did he put in?
  8. Not sure if any of you remember the post I made about the snide comments my personal trainer made to me when he found out that I was having WLS. He told me I was cheating and he expected better from me. Since then I have avoided the gym like the plague. Since it is 107 degrees outside today I decided to heck with him, I am going to go hit the treadmill at the gym that I am still paying membership fees for. As I was leaving I ran into him. He was genuinely shocked to see me and said that he just assumed I would use the band as an excuse to not work out. I told him that he obviously didn't know me nearly as well as he thought he did. He asked me when I had my surgery and I told him June 30 his jaw hit the floor because he couldn't believe I was back in the gym so soon. He also asked me how much I lost and I told him almost 12 pounds. He said he could tell, I looked like a different person already and that my face looked 10 years younger.....HAH, SO THERE Funny thing is, he has taken a renewed interest in me, wanting me to call him as soon as I am cleared for weights so I can be his new project. I told him I would think about it.

    BLOG list

Thanks for adding this. I am always looking for more people to stalk. It is nice to know we are not in this alone and that most of us have the same issues. My blog is listed in my signature.

I got very sick after my surgery and threw up for 24 hours. When I went back for my post-op check up I asked if that was normal. Their answer was define normal. Everyone is different and everyone's experience is different. You are doing great.
  11. If only it were really that easy!!

    Recovery question

I was banded on Thursday June 30 and was back to work Tuesday July 5. I was still a little sore but nothing serious. If you have to lift you might want to check with your doctor and see what they have to say. I am still under restriction not to lift anything over 20 pounds.
  13. I was banded on the 30th also. I was one of the unfortunate ones that got very sick from the anesthesia and pain meds so I spent the first 12 hours throwing up. Did not anticipate that at all. Once all of that was out of my system I am feeling fine, just kind of week and light headed. Haven't had anything for pain since Saturday morning early.

    scared to eat

I had surgery Thursday and threw up for two days because of the anesthesia and pain meds. I know I am not eating enough because I know how painful it was to throw up begging for zofran and still have two hours until you can take your next dose. I am feeling better every day but am light headed, probably because I am not eating near enough. I don't want to be afraid for the rest of my life

    Surgery is Thursday

Me too!! I have to be at the hospital at 6 on Thursday and I keep thinking about driving right by the hospital. I am sure it is perfectly normal

    liver reduction diet

I only have to do a week, on day 3. Luckily I haven't been hungry in the least because my nerves are out of control this close to surgery.

    June 30

one week from tomorrow!! I had my last meal of steak fingers and cottage fries at my favorite restaurant tonight. liquids start tomorrow Sounds like we all have a busy week!! Please check in and let us all know how you are doing.
  19. Nectar protein powder is the best in my opinion. I haven't had surgery yet (June 30) but have been drinking in for workouts for awhile. I usually mix it with V8 diet splash and either some frozen fruit or a teaspoon of frozen drink mix concentrate. They sell a sample pack with a single serving of all of their flavors - there are a lot. My favorites so far are apple ecstacy and fuzzy navel.

    Any 30 - 34 BMIs

My BMI is 31 and I am going through the same thing. Pretty much the only person who has been optomistic has been my priary doctor and of course the surgeon. My surgery is June 30 and there are only a handfull of people who know about it. Good luck. I will be thinking about you.
  21. I am having my surgery June 30. I found out today that I will have to travel for work July 26. I am a little concerned about how/what I will eat. I goggled the hotel and there isn't a wal-mart close by (I won't have a car), and I am a little concerned with how heavy packing a weeks worth of powder food will make my suitcase. Luckily there will be a fridge in my hotel room. I am also worried about lifting my suitcase...do you think that would be an issue? It has rollers so I would only have to lift it up to the check in counter and off the baggage claim. To make matters worse there are a couple of other people from my office going. I have only told a few people at work about the surgery. Any ideas?!?!?!?!
  22. Things are moving very fast for me. I just made the decision to get the Lap Band a few weeks ago and have a preliminary surgery date May 26 (if my other doctors get the paperwork to surgeon in time). I have told very few people what I am doing because I really don't want to hear the lectures. I did, however tell my personal trainer who turned out to be a complete jacka$$ about the whole thing; telling me the surgeon was only interested in making money and not my health and that I am cheating and won't feel as good about myself. He really hurt my feelings and I wrote a long email to him today... this is the email I sent I just wanted to let you know that I am having the Lap Band Surgery as my cardiologist and primary doctor have recommended. I had hoped your attitude towards this recommendation would have been more supportive rather than negative. This is not an easy decision to make. I have been in a battle with my weight all of my life. To be offered this tool to help me end the battle of constant struggle is like a life line to me. The fact that it may help me end the gain/loss cycle I have been through the last few years outweighs any of the possible side effects for me. I do not see this as cheating as you say or an easy way out, it will still take work. This is only a tool. There will still be struggles and there will be ups and downs, but I welcome this chance to get my life and weight back under control. I feel like I have worked out harder than I ever have; even outside the gym even though you don’t believe me, and I have seen very little results. I have altered my diet and I have given up so much for very little and I was at the point that I just wanted to give up. One of the biggest reason I stopped coming to the gym was because I knew you would not be supportive of my decision. I appreciate the confidence you seem to have in my ability to lose the weight on my own but the struggles have gone on for many years and my patience has grown thin...no pun intended. I realize it is your job to be a glass half full kind of person but please cease in future conversations or comments that negatively impact my doctor and my decision to have the surgery. It only aggravates and adds stress to an already serious matter. I in no way doubt you as a trainer and would like to start training with you again after my surgery. I feel there is a better chance that I will see a change and I won’t feel like I am just throwing away my time and money. If you don’t want to continue on as my trainer under these conditions, I understand, but I would like to have you train me again after this is over. ****** I am even more upset now because he has made no attempt to respond. Is is normal to get this kind of negative feedback when you tell people you are having the procedure?

    negative feedback

I got very lucky, my PCP is very excited for me and thinks this is the best option for me. She even told the nurse that she didn't want to send out the standard letter on my, she wanted to write something up herself. I actually did get an text from trainer a few days ago that went something like this: T: I sure do miss training you...hope all is well. M: I have surgery June 30 T: how long will you be down M: no weights for 6 weeks, cardio after two T: dang! You still my client? M: that's up to you, don’t want you to think I am just giving up and taking the easy way out T: Like you said ur gonna still need to workout. I don't think your giving up..I just know that surgery will have you out of my hands for awhile & I enjoy our sessions T: Some of these evening clients are boring, we used to have fun! I didn't reply.
  24. My surgery is scheduled for June 30 and I am in full on panic mode!! I have known for months this is the best solution for me and my weight battles even though I have only been actively pursuing the band for about a month. Most days I am confident in my decision but there are moments when I just want to call the doctor and cancel!! Mostly I know this is the right thing for me but I have days (like today) where I am scared to death. I have been a yo-yo dieter most of my adult life and I know this is much safer then continuing in this cycle. I haven't told many people about my choice because I have a BMI of 31 and most of those that I have told are not very supportive of my choice because I am not "big" enough.
