  1. Congrats! I hope that mine goes as well as yours in two days. I am looking forward to it and not the least bit anxious. I am really ready to start this new adventure. I am sure it will be painful but worth it in the end. See you on the other side on Monday!

Congrats on your upcoming sugery. I had mine 1-19 and the pain was nit bad, only needed pain meds 1-2 times during the 2nd day, what ever they give you during sugery has a lasting effect.

  2. Glad to hear you're going great, Loser. I'm doing pretty good now, was given the ok to take Prevacid instead of Nexium, as it's a smaller pill and doc says I can swallow it whole. Dissolving the Nexium in the Water before taking it was making me puke. Glad that's over now... So tummy feels a bit better with the Prevacid. Moving on to a very itchy rash that I'm working out... Quick question, are you feeling really hungry or anything? I'm actually feeling hunger pangs like you wouldn't believe. I dreamed that I ate a slice of pizza last night and I woke up in a panic, then realize it wasn't real and fell back asleep. Wondering if this is all in my head? :001_rolleyes:

    Hi Youknowit,

I had a dream I ate 4 BBQ rids about day 6, woke up thinking what did I do, I can't eat that I was still on Clear liquids. Freaked me out but then got a laugh out of it.

Add some mpoore Protein in it will help with the hungry feeling, you should be far enough along to add in Protein powder mixed with Water.< /p>

  3. Hi all!

Well, I'm finally able to connect to the internet so I wanted to give you all an update... Made it through surgery. Was a bit more difficult than a straight sleeve, due to my scarring from the previous band. I was under for about 2h 45m. Woke up feeling pretty good. Have been covering since than... didn't start drinking anything until yesterday, wherein I threw up each time, not too. Through up a couple time right after surgery too (later than night in my room). So, they are slowing me down on drinking and such, and I'm going to have to stay for an extra day. I'll be heading home Friday morning now, rather than tomorrow.

Feeling so much better today, really, only sore at the sight of the drain, and have a headache... Thanks to all for checking in on me. If I can get back online again tomorrow, I will update you again. Best to all! :thumbup1::smile::drool5:

Sorry to hear you are having a ruff time, Hoping everydsy gets better.

Walk, sip burp. Welcome o the sleeved side.

  4. I am 2 weeks post-op and stopped taking all meds because my sugar levels where staying around 85-95 throughout the day until I started full liquids then had to start back on Lantus 40 unit 1 time a day, (long lasting insulin). More carbs and sugar in the Soups and yougert I guess. Will be adding in more exercise this weekend so hoping that will help.I sure like the fact that I don't have to take the crushed Metforman that made me gag it tasted sooooo bad:thumbdown:. My hope is to get off all meds as the wieght comes off, we'll see.

  5. Congrats on getting your date. You can do this for the next 3 week, think positive and your surgoen will be pleased and won't turn you down.

This will be the biggest help to get to your goal !!!

I was suprised at how just losing 22bls brought my BMI from 54 to 50. You can do it.

  6. Thanks so much! I'm in Mexicali now, at the hotel. Had pre-ops earlier today and head back to the hospital at 7am tomorrow morning. Please do keep me in your thoughts and prayers. This being my third abdominal surgery, I know this is a little riskier... I'm not as scared as I was the last times, but am starting to feel it coming on... Nervous. Hope I can sleep tonight, cause I sure didn't sleep last night. :confused1:

Will post again tomorrow from the sleeved side! :blushing:

Good luck tomorrow, you're in good hands with Dr Aceves. We're waiting for you on the sleeved side.

  7. Howdy All,

I have reading this forum for a few months and am now on my way to a sleeve on Feb. 10th. A few days ago, I had that infamous last meal and it was a learning experience. It interrupted a previous week of drinking Protein shakes and going low carb/no junk. Now, I did enjoy that Last Supper. It was yummy. But, afterwards, I felt sluggish and in a food coma. Coming off a week of losing weight and feeling more energetic, I realized that I didn't want mass amounts of junky foods like I thought I did. Now that I am on the official pre-op diet of 2 shakes and a sensible meal, it is a bit of a struggle but I am glad to be back to a healthier lifestyle.

I am quite nervous about the surgery but I am also very excited at the prospect of losing all this excess weight that I have been gaining steadily since college. My BMI is around 51 and I hope to lose something like 180lbs:eek: which seems like such an overwhelming amount. I have closets full of clothes spanning just about every size from then to now. I even have a trunk full of clothes from high school that are now just hideously out of fashion:scared0:.

Thanks to everyone for all the support and the totally useful info I get from this place.

See y'all on the losers' bench!

Congradulatoins on getting a date. Good Luck on your journey.

  8. Brenda,

I have some questions that I hope you can answer. I saw my PCP today and told her about my surgery and going to Mexico. She remained objective but had some concerns. What was your experience with your PCP? With your complications that you have had with clotting, how did the hospital and your PCP react? My PCP's biggest concerns are if I have complications, that no one in KY would touch me and I find that hard to believe and of course there is the concern that the insurance company will not cover anything since I had the surgery done in Mexicali. Her other concern is when she does my follow up bloodwork, what does she do if it comes back abnormal? Can you possibly relay your experience for me? I am all set to send out my deposit but now she has me a little freaked out!

IT Was Barbara that had the clot, you might ask her.I have not had any complications thus far. As for me my PCP asst. was "optomisiclly cautious", his words, when I told him I was going to Mexico he was glad I was finally doing something about my wieght and didn't thinkI was going to be able to do this on my own, he was right about that. He understoood the reason for going to Mexico for the surgery due to the highcost in the states. His wife even went to canada for her Lassic Eye sugery and paid less that he did and hers included airfare and hotel for 2 nights.

I would think that if your blood tests come back abnormal she would treat what was abnormal.

  9. Thanks, Brenda! I've actually been to Dr. Aceves (and Campos) before... for my band removal. I was supposed to get a revision to sleeve at that time, but unfortunately my band was very eroded, so I was not able to do that. I think knowing where I'm going, and the procedures, etc, I'm much more comfortable and calm this time than the last time I was down there. I am excited, but I must be 100% honest, I'm very freaked out as well. Got my cashier's check today, bag is in the process of being packed... I'm on my way. I wish I was able to go tomorrow, I hate waiting until Sunday, but it will come soon enough I suppose.

How are you doing and how are you feeling? How are your incisions healing? I had a bit of trouble with that last time, so I'm hoping all goes smoother this time...

Anyways, thanks for the cheers, and I hope to hear how you are doing!

I'm feeling great, down 20lbs. Insisions are healing well. I went back to work yesterday, I was tired by late afternoon. My clients were glad to see me back.

I guess it would be aliitle more comforting to know the Dr's although any surgery can be alot scary.

  10. I know it can get a little stressful before; especially if you are going out of the country. But I'll be totally honest with you, Dr. Aceves and his staff are FANTASTIC!! They see to every detail. They make sure you understand everything that will happen pre and post surgery. The Docs come in your room several times EVERY single day to see how you are doing, and to discuss any questions you have. If you are in any kind of pain, they will take care of it. I just was so amazed at how wonderful the hospital and the staff are. I've emailed their office with questions several times since I've been home, and they ALWAYS respond right away.

I would recommend Dr. Aceves 1000% without any hesitation. Hope that makes you feel more at ease with your decision. :confused1:

And thanks, I'm working on getting this clot situation done with.

I whole heartedly agree, you are in good hands with Dr. Aceves.:blushing:

  11. Thank you ThinOneDay!

Katldy, Congrats on getting your date with Dr. Alvarez. Yes I did go to Piedros Neigras to meet him and visit the facility prior to giving my down payment. After meeting Dr. Alvarez and touring the facility I am very comfortable with having him do my surgery. All that others have said about him appears to be true. The hospital is older, but looked clean to me. If anything is not, I will make a point to post it on this board so you will know. The 3 week strict diet he put me on is very hard. This being the last week I plan to be a little tighter on it, not going over about 800 cal/day, and keep carbs to less than 80. I will PM you my phone number if you want it, and you can call me on the 2nd if you like. I don't plan on taking my laptop to Mexico, and don't want to access my email on a public computer. The only concerns I have had about Dr. Alvarez is he doesn't use much pain medication. When I questioned this, he said most of his patients don't ask for anything more, but if they feel they need it he would give it to them. He said on the second day it should feel about like the day after giving your abs a good workout, and be feeling the burn and sore.... Other patients of his have said pretty much the same thing,,, we will see.. I am a wimp to pain, never had an operation in my life, so this will be totally new to me.

Loser I am a wimp to pain also and am less likely to get up and walk when I'm in pain. Dr. Aceves gave us Superdol for pain if we felt we needed it, desolves under your tongue, they are non-narcotic. If someone is going with you they could pick some up at the Phamacia. In Mecicali there was several very near the hospital. Good luck on your up coming surgery.

  12. I need prayers please. I noticed a knot in my arm about 5 inches above the spot where my IV for surgery was. It got red and started hurting so hubby took me to ER at 7pm last night. We spent 5 hours there last night. They did an ultra sound and found I have a blood clot. I have to go into see my Regular doc tomorrow. It's scary. All prayers would be greatly appreciated. :(

OMG Barbara, Prayers go out to you, Hope all goes well.

  13. Well here we go, I'm waiting at the Dallas Airport for my flight to San Diego and then the ride to Mexicali.
