Breastfeeding With Sleeve
i would try weaning now just in case. You've already done more than 6 months of breastfeeding which is more than most people do nowadaays, and the most important benefits for the baby. It's just a thought, yoou don't know how you're gonna feel after surgery and what your milk production will be like. My baby was about 8 months when I was sleeved, but I had given up before becuase of other issues. Good luck with your sleeve!

So What's the Deal with Milk?
I agree with this GT, I watched a scientific programme the other day where they demonstrated that 2 people on the same amount of calories and fat diet, one included diary and one one didn't, the fat loss through the stools of the patient consuming diaries was double to the one who wasn't. Here's an interesting article as well http://www.nature.com/oby/journal/v12/n4/full/oby200467a.html

For those of you who have small-ish children...do you ever worry?
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks about this, we all want to be good role models for our children and want what's best for them, hopefully by changing our eating habits with our sleeves we will be better role models for them. Good luck to us!

The good thing about being a slow loser
It's a size 10 US, but I'll let you all know, and probably the rest of the world cause I''ll be screaming at the top of my lungs when I can actually put them on and look good in them, can't wait, even though the pounds are shifting at the moment despite the pouch test

Anyone using Mirena IUD?
I had a Mirena for a good 5 years and loved it, couldn't even remeber or feel that I had it in(neither could my husband). Never had an UTI or discharge or anything. I went through a "period" of having very heavy periods and my gynecologist recommened changing from the pill to Mirena and my periods went back to normal. For me it was a good experience all round, but I guess we all react differently! Now I've got my tubes tied so not a prob anymore )

Why am I hungry?
Just focus on eating/drinking really slowly and thinking about everything you put in your mouth at the moment. I found it very confusing the first few weeks, feeling hungry, you'll get used to it in due time and hopefully not feel as hungry as you feel now. Just follow your surgeons guidelines and good luck!

Really worried; need advice
You should bear in mind that different doctors have different rules and eating plans. I was allowed Soups and soggy Cereal, oatmeal from day 3 after surgery. My guidelines are different than most people on this forum, as I'm allowed carbs as long as I get enough protein in. I did once or twice have an urge for eating tortilla chips when I was only a couple of weeks out, I had a few, chewed extra well and it was fine, not that I'm suggesting you to do that! As others have already said, once you've started with dense protein, chicken, eggs, you'll realise that yyou do get full after a couple of bites! I haven't lost the weight as quick as some people, but I am losing steadily and my surgeon is happy and so am I!

So What's the Deal with Milk?
Milk, I have it in my protein drinks, and at least 3 times a day in coffee and tea, my nutrtionist is fine with that, as long as it's fat free or at least semi skimmed, I'm a milk addict, and what contributes to my high carbs big time

For those of you who have small-ish children...do you ever worry?
My 12 yr old stops eating when she's full, my 10 yr old eats till she's stuffed. I don't want to put pressure on her because what my psychologist who helped through my "eating disorder", or disordered eating as she called it said is that there is a lot of research that shows that when from a young age we are told when to stop eating those "cues" that normally tell us when we are full or when we are hungry are lost, or aren't given a chance to develop properly, which I believe is true, as I said earlier from the age of 9 I was put on a diet,I was told what to eat when to stop, how much I could eat, and I know that my fullness cue didn't exist , I would eat till I physically couldn't anymore, the sleeve helped me so much with that because now I pay attention to when I'm full, still amazed how I completed changed my relationship with food
-
If it were up to me I guess I wouldn't eat enough?
All I can say is that I'm doing lowcarbs now and high protein (5 day pouch test ) and haven't lost ANY weight! I'm gonna finish it for the sake of it and just to make sure my sleeve is working and to get rid of the bad carbs I have been eating round christmas time and then go back to my higher carbs again (but good carbs !) I believe that a balanced diet including all the food groups is what works best for me, especially because I don't want to deprive myself of carbs and then when I start eating them again go mad because I have been restricted for so long and end up putting on weight.

So cold
It's cold here in the north of England but I 've never felt the cold so much in my life! I always used to be the hot sweaty one, I'm sure that ghrelin theory is right!

boob job question...
I had a breast reduction about 6 years ago for medical reasons (hyperplasia of the glands) so I have an invertide T scar and a scar round my areeola, hardly visible though. I did lose sensibility or however you call it round the nipple area just as you lose it when you have a C-section, for those of you who have experienced that. Funny because I never ever thought that I would need breast implants, have always had good boobs, but after breatfeeding 3 children, +boob reduction+losing weight a cup C is big now, so I'm def having small implants when I have my TT. I don't give a monkeys about the sensation to be honest, you just find other ways to "have fun" and enjoy a decent pair of boobs!

For those of you who have small-ish children...do you ever worry?
So I have 3 girls, 12 y,10y and 13 months, and I worry. I worry because even though they're nor fat(they aren't skinny either), the older ones are starting to get consious about the way they look, looking fat in certain clothes, and basically not wanting to be fat, they never try to diet or anything yet thank God. I had a bad experience with this, as a child (at 9 years old I was put on a diet and I wasn't even fat-I had however put on about 8 pounds in a year after moving from the states to S America so my parents thinking it was best for me took me to the doctors who put me on a lowcalorie diet, can you imagine, at 9 ?) and have had weight issues ever since. I do not put my girls on a diet, just try to feed the a healthy balanced diet (but obviously I can't and won't control everything they put in their mouths) and encourage them to exercise, they love dancing and they do that 3 times a week for 3 hours. I just worry that they will think in the future that what I did is the easy way out. I have explained them my weight issues and the reason I had to resort to surgery, but as a mum I still worry. Do any of you have these issues in the back of your minds, or is it just me being paranoid??

Are there any SIZE Goal sleevers out there?
Wow you're tall Julie, I think that if you get down to 155 (which is about 70 kilos right?) you'll prob fit in to a size 12 again, that's my guess

Are there any SIZE Goal sleevers out there?
I think when we get past 40 (and I spoke to a lot of people who are going through the same thing) our body shapes change so much with age and putting on weight, that it's really hard to estimate what size we're gonna be after losing a certain amount of weight. I never ever thought that at my actual weight (which is about 158 lbs) I would be able to squeeze into to a size 12 UK (which is an american 10, i finally looked it up!) 10 years ago, and this I remember clearly at this weight I was in a tight 14 UK (12 US), and now those pants (i still have 3 pairs of my old jeans and dress pants) are loose on me, so you never know what size you're gonna end up being!

75 pounds gone and my husband says this to me........??
Men are strange creatures! My husband isn't obese but he's big and has a bit of a belly(he used to be a rugby player) He started a healthy eating plan a few days ago and started going to the gym again,I think the fact that everybody compliments me got him thinking and I can see his belly is already shrinking!
- A sad day in my city...

new here
I had similar emotions before being sleeved, I have 3 children, 12,10 and 13 months, and I decided that one of the reasons I was doing this was for them! I believe that your/our morbility and ultimately mortality are at much greater risk if you don't have the surgery, as you you prob know and researched all the comorbidities related to obesity. It's hard to find all the posts on here since they changed things round , so as Tiff says don't take it personally, this forum is a great support! Good luck for the 21st!

Official Ongoing Gastric Sleeve Maintenance Thread
NtvTxn, I'm not on maintanance yet but I thing you're snackinf on the right kind of things, a Mac Donald's or a doughnut once in while as a treat is OK, more than that no! Tiffy you go girl! Hormones can be horrible plus the giving up soda will prob have an effect on your mood. I started lowcarbing on monday, started the 5 day pouch test yesterday and am feeling a bit moody myself, haven't got to the gym yet either, I'm sure that will help

RNY to VSG in operating room
I think that you are very lucky and your daughter very smart to have given them the go ahead. The worse thing would've been waking up form surgery with the keyhole scars but no operation done! You will truely love your sleeve! Good luck to you!
