  1. It all boils down to choice and preference, yes a lot of bypass patients have tremendous results but a lot regain everything plus more than there initial weigh over time. I didnt want fast weigh lost, I wanted a gradual change where I could retrain myself to be healthy. Lets face it we put ourselves in this predicament by overeating, unhealthy choices and little to no exercise. With bypass it's rapid weight loss with no need to focus on what you put in your mouth. My ultimate reason for getting the band was I refused to have my inside butchered... That was a deal breaker for me

  2. I have been taking gas x extra strength thin strips like candy it only gives me momentary relief( an hr or so) then its back to the bloating and dancing gas UGH!!!! I weighed myself this morning and i lost a whopping *drum roll please* 1 pound. So yeah like i thought my body is in starvation mode holding on to everything it can.

I called to make a post op check up today with my surgeon and was very adamant that i want to see my surgeon not his assistant... My mom went last week and she didn't get to see him. I know i sound like im being difficult but this gas is making me into a full fledged monster!! I'm tired of being cooped up inside ( raining the whole week) in pain and misery

  3. My surgery was the 1st and I am feeling horrible and very miserable =( My gas moves in my abdomen whenever I walk... Walking DOES NOT help me. It may work for others but it is not working for me.... Today was the first day i was actually able to finish a Protein shake since the surgery. I know i'm most likely dehydrated but what can I do about that,,,,, My port site hurts so bad most times i need to put my palm over the site and apply a slight pressure to gain some relief.

I have to take my pain medicine just to sleep at night because i am so uncomfortable and bloated, I highly doubt im losing anything because my body is basically in starvation mode. Its has nothing to sustain it....

Has anyone else been unable to burp? My gas collect right underneath my band but no matter how much i try it wont come up. The only way i have lost some gas is getting on all fours and assuming a downward facing dog like position.

Seriously having buyers remorse right now not even joking

  5. Congratulations!! Im hoping to join you as an August Bandster... I can relate to you in terms of people "getting around" to things. The diffrence for me is that its my surgeons office holding things up! My insurance co. has been nothing but caring, helpful and super professional. My surgeons office keeps on giving me the run around. I finished all the necessary paperwork only to here from surgeons office..."we sent info to bcbs, the person who works with insurance is on vacation and will not be back until August 9th, the other person is in the hospital and the one thats in the office now is overwhelmed, if you call insurance co on Tuesday they will show the claim, im missing numbers that they need, we arent used to your ins co.". Excuse after excuse...you guys are all lucky to have such wonderful office staff for you surgeon. Like you I was steaming and could feel the smoke coming out my ears....lately I have been thinking of either staying this way (fat, pleasantly plump, morbidly obese...) or try a different surgeon.

Good luck on your surgery. Keep us posted. Hopefully I will join your soon

I would so CHANGE my doctor if I was having the issues you are having now,,,, That's totally UNACCEPTABLE. When I went searching for a surgeon I thought of it as a marriage (weird thinking right?). A lifelong commitment there will be no divorce....so i told my doctor hes stuck with me. He chuckled, little did he know i was so serious. If they cant handle something as simple as your paperwork how would they handle your fills or god forbidden if you have a complication? That would be making me so weary

  6. I've been to the road to being banned since April. It took me a while to decide on a surgeon that i felt had my best interest at heart. The past few months I've been running around getting all the necessary paper work. In June i was FINALLY ready to submit my paperwork and wait on approval... Only to have the PA call me to tell me that i don't have insurance SAY WHAT?!?!?

I immediately called my healthfirst and found out that i had what you called a lapse case. Even though i submitted my renewal forms in February, my case worker had not "gotten around" to approving my renewal so i was in a grey area waiting until the paperwork was filed. So here i am BEYOND pissed, I could practically feel the steam flowing out of my ears... For the next couple of weeks i had to play the cat and mouse game with my insurance company. Speaking to supervisor after supervisor try to expedite my case.

Here's the good part =) My insurance was reinstated on the 1st of August, I called my surgeon's office on the second to submit the paperwork and i was APPROVED today!!! Less then 24 hours to approve my surgery how freaking awesome is that. I am so ecstatic that i am practical bouncing in my chair while typing this post... I know the excitement will die down when i see my surgeon and get the liquid diet but for now ill bask in the glow of happiness for a little while longer

Cheers to all the August Bandsters I will be a part of the club

  7. @Dawn..... Hey girl, I messaged you a few days after your surgery and got worried when I didn't hear back from you. I',m glad to see your ok and banded. I didn't know you got the band through your band, I've was looking into it and couldn't find anyone that did it through the belly button. Where did you get your surgery done?

@Jonathan I'm also from NY, still going through the process of getting insurance approval i go for my psych eval/nutritionist/endo on fri. I am hopeful that my insurance company approves my request quickly. I am ready for this journey

  8. Not banded yet, but i LOVE LOVE your honesty and your posts! I have noticed from lurking that some of these bandsters are plain mean and snippy when it comes to giving advice.

As a future bander I want an environment where i can say darn i did this without fear of being crucified for my slip up.....Are we NOT all here to help each other get through this?

  9. I am doing the surgery with my mom, so she, my aunt and a close friend knows. I haven't told my bestfriend which was strange now that i think about it. She's an amazing person but she's the typical girl who eats a ton and doesn't gain a single pound and i personally don't feel she'll contribute anything to my process as a whole.

As for the rest of my family, i love them to death but they are somewhat judgemental and dont know how to keep information to themselves. So they are not allowed on this journey with me....

@Dawn you had your surgery today I hope your making a speedy recovery=)

Random thought: I was just thinking i need a buddy/mentor when i get banded but i want someone close that we can maybe meet up once in a while to just sit and chat. I've learned that surrounding your self with likeminded goal really pushes you to succeed

  10. I am an anxious excited ball of energy right now. I go for my sleep study on Thursday and next week Friday. I have my 3 in 1. So i see the nutritionist, psychiatric and gastroenterologist (not sure if i spelled that right). I'm happy they offer the 3 in 1 i can get everything I need to get done on one day @ one location. I love being efficient laugh.gif

  11. I'm in the process of doing the necessary steps to get insurance approval. I've been contemplating this surgery for 3 years now. I would really like to form a small support group (i plan on being a closet bander). I live in brooklyn hopefully we can help each other through this amazing but somewhat scary process.
