  1. Well this is not easy to talk about, but I sure wish that I had a heads up before surgery. As long as I can remember, I have always had- mild- anxiety issues at times. Also some seasonal 'Winter blues". After vsg I became moody, irritable, anxious, and sleep pattern was totally messed up. I even wound up loosing my job because I wasn't a 'perky cheerleader' like the rest of the girls. Well I finally got in to see my doctor. Come to find out there are a few factors that can affect your anxiety/ mood issues after weight loss surgery. With weight loss, stored estrogen is released from the fat- which can make you moody like when you're pregnant. Also the doctor said that with the weight loss, your body chemistry can change and your old medication may end up being too strong. Sure wish I knew ahead of time to watch out for this! Would have still had the surgery for sure. Just would have liked a heads up to possible prevent all the trouble. Hope this knowledge saves someone else the heartache.
  2. Everything has evened out...but at the beginning ...oh say first 5 months or so.....I became a nervous wreck! Turns out that the med I was on for depression had become too strong for me due to my weight loss. So yeah, if anything doesnt feel quite right, please do consult your doctor. A simple med reduction can make a world of difference HUGS

Body chemistry changes with weight loss

Well here we are...a bit out from my original post. Will let you all know that everything mood wise had evened out. So hang in there! On a side note I too am deficient in vit D. Also have found out that taking a magnesium supplement helps me feel and sleep better too. Learned that from a fellow sleeve sister Hope you all are doing well too. HUGS
  4. Surgery Nov 2010....now June 2011. SEVERE muscle cramps to outer sides of lower legs, back and abdominal muscle spasms. This has been going on for about three weeks and is getting more frequent....to the point of happening several times a day. Even get severe abdominal muscle cramping with a small amount of bladder fullness. Limping around due to muscle soreness from the cramping. Went to my surgeon 5 days ago. Bunches of lab drawn but no results yet. Anyone have any idea what I might be low on vitamin/ mineral wise. Have rx for flexeril, a muscle relaxant, and that doesnt even touch it! HELP!!!!!

    Calcium Citrate

Dimples509...........I get the Wild Berry Punch Chrystals from Bariatric Advantage. It's a complete Multiformula with calcium. Just mix in one little scoop with your fluids twice a day and you're good. The formulation does include vitamin D. I'm just having to take additional vitamin D because I was super low even before surgery. Oh almost forgot, my doctor has us all do weekly sublingual B-12. Well this formula contains the higher dose that we need after surgery. It's a great product all around.

    Calcium Citrate

I have always had trouble swallowing the calcium tabs pre-op. I got me some of the powdered multivitamin with calcium in it through bariatric advantage. Has a fruity taste. Just mix in on in with my chrystal light. Just be sure to stir every so often. The calcium powders tend to settle to the bottom. Sleeve feels so much better taking the vitamins in with my fluid intake through the day. Otherwise I'm full to the gills taking the vitamin/supplement pills!

    Alcohol WithOut Liquid

Ok guys and gals. I confess. I tried the AWOL last night. Reviews- "EH" Did a some Jose Quervo Gold. Wouldn't recommend the AWOL unless you have the desensatized lungs like that of a smoker. Yes, the liquor is harsh on the lungs at first. After the initial 'break in period', you don't get a typical alcohol buzz. You get a nice relaxed mellow feeling. No hangover noted. Nice and relaxing after you get past the taste, but still not as fun as the effects of drinking the alcohol. Basically, it's a novelty. Like an ice luge, it's cool to have for a party, but soon looses it's appeal. But hey at least I can say I tried it. Won't be doing it anytime soon though.

    Alcohol WithOut Liquid

Guess others will have to be the guinne pigs for this experiment ;P LOL Did wonder about the amount needed though. When drugs can't be given IV in a code situation, you can give some through the breathing tube, BUT at 4 times the dose to do anything. Figured alcohol would require same 'dose' adjustment. IDK Need to keep every last brain cell I have ;P
  13. Well went for my second post op visit. Thought I was doing pretty good, but doc said that typically I should have had more weight loss at this point. About 4 months out and down 54 pounds. Behaving my self and doing what I'm supposed to. Prior vo2 testing showed a super slow metabolism to begin with. Hopefully that's the culprit. At any rate, that report kinda knocked me back a peg or ten Am down 3 pants sizes and have more energy. Praying that my progress will be up to standards next time. End pity party ;P

    Alcohol WithOut Liquid

OMG! Reading too much here on the alcohol subject. Sounds like teens- girls AND guys, are using vodka soaked tampons as another way to get a buzz. CRAZY!

    Alcohol WithOut Liquid

http://www.gotvape.com/vaporizer/alcohol-vaporizer.php Well looks like if you're gonna tie on a few and drive yourself home (dumb idea) that this is the way to go. Apparently you get the alcohols effects but the breathalizer tests can't get a reading like if you had drank the liquor. Parents out there- if you have a nebulizer and teens in the house, keep a close eye/ nose out for alcohol use in this manner!

    Alcohol WithOut Liquid

Have heard of this before. Never met anyone that has tried it though. Hmmmmm don't need the extra O2 but could just as easily use a nebulizer. Hmmmm may have to experiment this weekend ;P Guess as long as it's an alcohol without all the sugary mixers it wouldn't hurt. Otherwise I could see the sugars making an easy breeding ground for bacteria in the lungs. Ewwwww. Talk about catching your death of Pneumonia. Jeez. Think I'll wait for further research to come in on the topic. Looks to be a cool novelty though.
  17. I knew that I have always had bad posture. Now that I'm getting some weight off, my tail bone HURTS! Have to sit down super easy because it hurts on the bone right there. I'm nowhere near goal either. It's a literal pain in the rear, but at least I'm more active in sitting properly instead of slouching. Had a huge laugh when King of the Hill came on the other night. Hank was wearing butt padding for his posture. I seriously thought it was a good idea, then busted up laughing at myself! LOL Just had to share. Surely some of you know what I'm talking about ;P

    Bruising easily

Blod thinner in hospital at time of surgery only. Haven't been bruising all this time, just here lately. Starting some leafy greens finally. Hopefully that'll boost my vit K levels. Just kinda concerned about the apron area bruise. It's been there almost 2 months now. Cant tell that it hurts any, but have had nerve damage there from two prior surgeries. Waiting for insurance from new job to kick in before I get it checked out.
  19. I'm almost 5 months out. Have been bruising easily all over. No known injury. As far as I know, all my lab work has been good, except for low vit D for which I'm on rx'd supplement. Anyone else have bruising this far out? Any idea what the cause is? Low on another vitamin that wasn't tested maybe. I don't know. Would appreciate any info. The bruises show up on my arms. Passed that off as maybe I had bunped into something. Now I have them under the 'apron' area and on my legs. Like in odd spots, such as the back of my knees.

    Bistro Sensation

OOOH! Sounds good! Thanks for the info. Always looking for high protein, low carb foods. Didn't know they had such a thing as these. I just see the sausage section at the store and walk on thinking 'too much fat'. Thanks so much. Will pick some up next shopping trip
  21. My doctor did not use a drain with my surgery. Surgery done in Edmond, Oklahoma I'm a nurse as well. My patients tell me that the drain removal does not hurt. The drainage tube is a little pencil sized flexible tube that goes from the tissues to a collection bulb. When it's time to come out, a little surface stitch is removed and it just slides out. Had them with other surgeries. Was a total non-issue for me. Talk with your doctor ahead of time so you know what to expect. Lovin' the sleeve here
  22. I know everyone is different, but- Ballpark- how long post op did everyone see a drop/normalization of their cholesterol levels? Also anyone have any suggestions for the leg cramps caused by statin drugs, for the cholesterol? Rx'd muscle relaxers make me sooooo sleepy.
  23. Ok all. I'm down 50# now. Woooooo! At any rate still weigh in at 249#. Looking to go mattress shopping. Anyone have any suggestions for a good firm mattress that won't get 'sink holes'? Mattresses cost some serious cash and I would appreciate any recommendations. Want something firm for the ol back, and a product that will last. Thanks

    Any other tattooed sleevers?

Oh girls! I already have four tats- all pre surgery. For my post surgery tat I am going to get a peacock feather in full color on the outside of my right leg from knee level down to ankle. It's going to be gorgeous! Think it's pretty fitting since we're all transforming so beautifully Will try n post some pics after I get it done in the next few weeks. (Will take 2-3 sessions to get it all done).
  25. I second that! Bariatric advantage berry flavor. Think with this line the flavor varies by strength of the iron tab. Dr put me on the berry flavor and I have had no stomach upset like with other iron supplements. Highly recommend
