I am considering this. Do you notice the weight comes off harder/easier/slower/faster the 2nd surgery around? What can you tell me about this process. I am scared to have RNY which is why I went to VSG to begin with...

I just posted a similar thread. I am considering RNY after VSG after Lapband. :-(

I had the the band in 2007, had tons of complications and had it removed and got Sleeved in Dec of 2010. I did great, lost all my excess weight (110 pounds) then got pregnant, did great in the pregnancy but since having the baby 18 months ago I have gained back 50 pounds. Can't seem to get it off no matter what. Can't seem to stick to my diet. It's like before I was sleeved..no restriction whatsoever, plus bad acid reflux. So I saw my surgeon today to ask about getting resleeved and he let me know that resleeving is high risk for leakage and he recommends gastric bypass I am freaked out by that. I have to have a swallow upper GI xray coming up to look at my sleeve.
Am I reading these posts right? Am I seeing that you DON"T lose weight as well with RNY after sleeve as with the original sleeve? I had always thought RNY was the most drastic WLS and the one you lost the fastest with. I am scared to do RNY, scared to have my intestines jumbled around...lol....and scared of the after effects. I lost hair terribly with the sleeve and with all my pregnancies and I am just now getting a normal amount of hair back. I am worried I will go bald with RNY, for real! Scared of the malabsorbtion, which is why I wanted Sleeve to begin with....
Any advice? Not sure I want to do this again...but I am feeling its the only way.

I was sleeved Dec 31st 2010. I lost all my excess weight (105 pounds lost). I had gained back 10 pounds, so not much, but then I got pregnant in July of 2012. My baby is now almost 8 months old. I did fairly well during my pregnancy. I gained 40 pounds which the drs were fine with. Then now since having the baby...it's like my sleeve is practically my old stomach again. I am gaining weight, I eat like I used to (pre surgery) I have no restriction whatsoever. It is so frustrating, depressing. I am 40 pounds above my lowest weight. And while this might not seem like much to some people, to me it is horrible because I can see it getting way out of control and I will just keep gaining. I can't get my eating under control. If I could eat without stomach restriction, I would'nt have needed the surgery in the first place! I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this...at almost 3 years post surgery.... Can my stomach have stretched back out? I was told the sleeve can't really stretch. Could I have messed up my hunger sensors? lol...if that's a real thing...but I NEVER feel full!!!! Or if I get full, I am hungry again within 30 min.
I am getting so depressed and overwhelmed.
Thanks,
Kindra

Tiff, you seriously brought tears to my eyes! I have been having a rough time. I feel like the only time I lose good is when I do liquids. Which as we all know is not something we can do forever! I feel whenever I eat I gain.. If I miss one day of exercise I gain...I get so frustrated! Sometimes I see other people's numbers and feel like I am not doing enough...
So thank you for the pep talk!

Kerri~ I didn't know you were on here! I'm going through a stall too. I know how youfeel!

I will am 5.5 mo out... 70 pounds lost. I've had to really work hard for every pound. It hasn't been easy. I am a slow loser for sure.

Any suggestions to help with Hair loss? It is really upsetting me. I get lots of Protein.. so I don't understand. Makes me so crazy!

So now I am 4 months out, down 57 pounds. I have a couple friends who are overweight like I was pre surgery. They are kinda cutting me out. Like at church yesterday, several people kept commenting and telling me how awsome I looked, to which I just replied Thank you... most people at church know I had surgery. But my friend was standing there not making eye contact with me, and she never wants to hang out or exercise with me anymore (she said she wanted to lose weight and exercise with me a couple months ago)....
I know how this feels. 3 yrs ago, I had a friend who was very overweight, and we were BEST FRIENDS... and she had gastric bypass and lost almost 200 pounds in one year. She went from weighing 100 pounds more than me, to 100 pounds less than me. At the time, it was hard to be around her. I felt like she constantly talked about her weight loss, her clothes being too big, needing new clothes, here have my hand me down big clothes...she was always taking pics of herself and posting them everywehre. And it made me not want to be around her. Now, 3 yrs later, we have found our frienship again (before I had surgery) maybe because she got over the newness of her weighloss and chilled otu a bit. LOL
My point in that story is that I make it a point NOT to be like that. I never discuss my weight loss or my surgery unless someone else brings it up to ask me questions. I never discuss my clothes or my weight or my meals or ANYTHING around my overweight friends because I don't want them to feel the way I did before.
But they still are falling away from me....
What can I do?

I love baby bump pics! You look beautiful. Congrats again! I have had 4 babies while being over weight and I really want to have one more after I reach goal so I can have the baby bump belly instead of just looking like a baby elephant! LOL
You look great!

did I really screw up? I thought this would be a healthy choice but all the nutrition info I find online is SCARY! Ok... I did NOT eat the dressing or croutons or tomatos. All I ate was the chicken, half the lettuce, and the sprinkle of cheese that was on there. (all this over 2 meal sittings). Has anyone ever taken one of these home and broke it down? I REALLY wanna know how many calories/carbs/protein I ate!
Thanks!

So many threads about carbs..all so confusing. I was going to ask my NUT today, but then my appt got cancelled. So... what is a GOOD number of carbs to stay under everyday. 40? 30? I don't want to do Adkins type and be in ketosis all the time or anything... but I don't lose as fast when I don't watch the carbs, and before being sleeved I was a total carb/sweets/breadproduct addict! So i don't want to go that road again!
Advice?

Thank you so much for all the responces. It does me good to see that I am not alone in this. I'm glad to hear that I sound pretty average where all this is concerned! I too have a hard time getting in all my fluids. Need to really work on that...it woudl probably help.

I will be 4 mo out on April 27th. I feel like I can eat too much. Definitely more than the 1/4 cup they had me on when I first graduated to real food post surgery. I have really bad-long stalls, and I'm getting frustrated and discouraged. So I'm wondering what other people who are around 3-5 mo post op do? What are you eating all day? How much and how often?
Thanks!

Does anyone know the amount of calories recommended to have steady weight loss? My loss is so slow. And I will go days and days with no loss or even fluctuating up and down a pound or 2. I am almost 3 months out from surgery, I get on average 500 calories a day, but sometimes up to 900. I do exercise, though not every day. My husband says I'm the only person he knows who can apparently MAINTAIN my body weight on 500 calories a day! LOL
Also metabolism...I think mine sux. How do I make that better?
Thanks for any advice!

LOL you all make me laugh.
Well I expect to still have some skin...but it doesn't seem like even the FAT has shrank at all! UGH!

The belly...the hangin down grossness. I've lost 40 pounds...2.5 mo out. I can tell I've lost weight in my face and neck/chest area, and my clothes fit better adn down a size. But that Gross dang belly. What's it called? The Pannus? When will it shrink?? It's just as thick and hangy and doughy as ever!!! It really bothers me!

I greatly apoligize if I'm not supposed to post this here.. but I didn't know where else. Could someone tell me? Anyway, I have 3 flavors fo the Bariatric Advantage shakes. Choc, strawberry, banana. They were $50 per bag. If anyone wants them, send me an email. I'd like for someone else to try them, I hate for them to go to waste.

I feel that way too and it really bothers me. I thought we weren't supposed to feel hungry. But I think for me, it is hunger.. I am trying to learn to just deal with it. :-(

yes, I am going through the same thing. 4 wks out... only 20 pounds lost (and that was in the first 2 wks) I am hoping it passes soon.
-
did your surgery mess up your cycle for the first month or so? I just realized I'm like 3 days late, but I see no way I could be pregnant.
-
Thank you everyone for the great advice. I am just nervous too because I go into my surgeon and Nut on Thurs for my 1 mo checkup and I'm so scared they are gonna be disappointed in my weight loss. I feel bad enough already!
-
Thanks, glad to know I'm not alone..althought I actually GAINED a pound today! AF is supposed to be coming soon so I'm hoping that's why.
Yeah, my calories have only been between 300-500 I have a hard time getting any more than that. Perhaps I'm not getting enough fluids either though.
HIEE!
I am in your exact situation
I lost 26 lbs post surgery getting me to 236, but Ive been stuck there for the past 2 weeks. I lowered my cal intake from 800 a day to 600 a day a few days ago, dropped 2 lbs since, but I was expecting a bit more. BUT like Im reading on countless posts, stalls are common at this time, and the weight loss will continue!! Logically, there is no way that we can be eating what we are and not lose, so just hang in there, we'll get through it!
As for the grazing, I had the same problem and really had to take control of that. I log my food meticulously, and make sure I always know where Im at calorie wise. If I absolutely feel the need to eat and Ive hit my 600 cals, which usually happens at night, its ONLY Jello, which does make me feel full after 6-8 oz and it helps w Fluid intake. Also, Ive heard from many people that sometimes when you are feeling hungry just increase fluids and it will help. Ive been doing that the past few days and it DOES. I dont know how many cals you are on a day, Im hearing anywhere from 500 to 800 a day is normal, but if you are feeling hungry and want to eat, it probably wouldnt hurt to just have a piece of low fat string cheese or maybe a tbsp of Peanut Butter in there. I am definitely a snacker, but as long as its good for me and within my cal limit then I don't feel bad at all.
Good luck!
Are problems with malabsorbtion common?

I am considering having my sleeve converted to a RNY. I was always very scared of RNY because of all the malabsorbtion talk. I know everyone has it, that is the point and it helps us lose weight. But are actual complications/problems common from it? As in, I read about someone who had to have a feeding tube put into her remanent stomach.
Thoughts?
