  1. Leaks ONLY occur 6-9 months out of you do not follow the propose relearning eating curb for the first 3-4 months. When you force yourself to eat like you did prior you stretch the stomach lining so the healing process takes longer. Remember ya organs takes a longer time to heal thank anything else on the outside. Your incisions will heal way before your stomach does. So of you're constantly stuffing ya gave and pitting pressure on the wounded stomach you will develop a leak forcing the healing period to extend to an even later date than originally planned.

I has my surgery back in MAY and it was the net thing I ever did for myself

  2. Ok April buddies... here are my 6 month before and afters! Holy moly' date=' I never thought I'd be posting these!

It's a little strange though, psychologically speaking, to look at these pictures. On the one hand, I feel like I look totally different, but on the other hand, I don't see much of a change. I know, I'm crazy, but seriously, the emotional/psychological side to this whole experience is really intense!

    Hope everyone is doing well![/quote']

    Congrats!!!!

  3. Jimmy' date=' like a lot of folks, I'm all thumbs when it comes to weight lifting and working out in general. What do you think of those Curves-type workouts that combine cardio and weight training in a timed circuit? I find it is idiot-proof enough that I can do it. My question is, is it effective?[/quote']

It is EXTREMELY effective... Cardio-based and strength training combined workouts are great but intense... Start slow then gradually build ya way up and you will see your figure sculpt itself into the masterpiece you've been dreaming of!

  4. I'm a pic ho these days, Jimmy! :) Be glad you're not on my FB feed! LOL I post pics just because I can! :) I'm not there, but I WILL get to goal. I'm not all that worried about the scale because I made my first major goal yesterday...I'm the same size as my "skinny" aunt...who isn't all that skinny, but she's the smallest of the girls in my family. But, not for long! :)

Thanks again for all your advice... and I'm sure I'll be back. :)

LOL well pics are the most helpful and meaningful tool to assist in the weight loss success process, so snap away. Dont worry in a few more month they will all be envious of your success and follow suit. ;0)

my advice to you is to keep on keeping on!

  5. Jimmy' date=' Thanks for your encouragement and help!!! :) I'm actually seeing measurable changes in my arms and stomach area, even though the scale is still being stubborn. Clothes are fitting better and I've taken an inch off my waist in the last month. From the back, I look terrific! LOL I'm doing abs every single day, mostly with an exercise ball, and I'm seeing improvement in my lower tummy area too.

I definitely appreciate your help! I think we need to ask for this thread to be pinned if it isn't already.[/quote']

The pleasure is all mine. Knowing that you're seeing results puts a smile on my face. Glad the knowledge is paying off... As far as the scale do not worry about it at all. Your weight will fluctuate often giving you sporadic #s. focus on how you feel, clothes fit, and looks in the mirror... These should always be you motivators when working out in the gym, never the scale.

Take pictures of before and after every single 1st of the month and compare to last months results to add a bigger motivational intensity.

  6. I would add tricep extensions and kickbacks to that as the tricep is one of the hardest muscles for women to tone. I do more of these because I am trying to prevent batwings!

Triceps is not really the hardest to train. It's the fact that the triceps consists of 3 separate muscles that make up the triceps itself... If you are able to target EACH of these muscles you will be in good shape.

  7. Hello Jimmy' date=' I'm hoping you can help me. I was sleeved on 8/1. I'm ready to start weight lifting. I checked out bodybuilding.com and I'm having a hard time choosing a plan to follow. I'm 5'2 233 I have large arms (bat wings) and big hips and thighs. I don't know if I should start with a fat loss program or building muscle program. Can you suggest what would be the better one.[/quote']

Start with light weights... Search for a total body workout...,do cardio on your off days to keep metabolism running strong. 10-15 minute warmups to get muscles relaxed and ready to be worked out...

  8. Man u rock' date=' thanks for the website, I am 10 days post op. I had a trainer 7 years ago for 1 or 2 years. At that time he made my 260 lb body fit into clothes that now at 260 don't fit.....cause of the muscle, right?

Now this trainer has opened 2 crossfit gyms, I joined it last year cause I love his motivational attitude. 60 days into crossfit, I had to stop, knee pain too severe, had 2 arthroscopic meniscus clean outs ON the SAME KNEE this last year. I loved the crossfit gym but they just can't adjust/ alter the exercises enough for me, Anyhow, I guess I will venture out and hope to find a trainer as wonderful as my last . ANY ADVICE ON PICKING A TRAINER? I was surprised I enjoyed a male trainer so much, not sure if I should pick a guy or gal?

Thanks a lot for everything you have already posted.[/quote']

Don't worry about gender worry about what that trainer can absolutely bring to the table to help you progress on your journey. Sex has nothing to do with it experience, intensity and the ability to motivate your client is what you are looking for in a trainer

  9. Why don't you do YouTube videos? I know that that is what frustrates me I the gym. I never really know what to do. It's been since high school (16 years ago) that I actually used machines in the gym. I love to learn and I definitely have a better frame of mind for it than I did then. Would love help.

Well, because I don't have a video recorder, they won't allow me to bring one I to the gym anyway (privacy issues) plus I don't support YouTube

  10. Jimmy- you are such a great guy. Thanks for helping all of us and wanting success for each of us. Your time and attention to helping others shows what a great spirit you have!

thanks so much :) Its refreshing to see and feel the love!

Knowledge is meant to be shared and passed on. The same way I was taught will be the same way I will teach, too bad I couldn't get you all into the gym for 1 day and show you some tricks or the trade front and center

  11. I'm sure some posts are out of bounds' date=' but from what I've seen here, I think the motivation behind most of the responses to "I ate the wrong thing" etc. are from the standpoint of "tough love." Sometimes we NEED to have our butts kicked when we screw up. Support me, sure, but scold me if I need it too. The OP's example from his own life is definitely out of line though, and I agree, hard to understand.[/quote']

That's what you guys are not understanding. I'm not referring to addictions I'm referring to a persons sense of being after playing BOTH sides of the fence. No former obese person should discriminate against another obese person ESPECIALLY after walking in their shoes for so long.

  12. I agree that we have nothing to talk about' date=' as evidenced by your disrespectful tone. What's the point in attacking me for positing a different perspective? Extremely rude and unnecessary. Nevermind the fact that you misrepresented what I said. Duh[/quote']

Please do me a favor and walk away. How can I possibly attack you when I don't even know you? If I'm attacking ANYTHING it's your perspective in choosing to play devils advocate.

  13. Why should ex-fat people act any differently than other groups who display this type of behavior? Want to see someone who's really disgusted by smokers? Look at ex-smokers - they're often superior acting. Same with people who had drug addictions.

It doesn't make it right' date=' but I think there is some degree of human nature at work in this equation.[/quote']

What kind of stupid question is that? So you tell me a victim of a bully should grow up to be bully? That is what you are basically saying. If youve been in someone else shoes and you actually understand the hardship they are going through daily, you're telling me You should treat them the same way You were once treated? If you TRULY believe that we have nothing to talk about.

Smokers hating ex-smokers is a different story. This is more emotional

  14. I am wondering if this is in response to the fat on fat hate thread. I actually thought it brought up a really interesting discussion' date=' because it's true, some people do judge others who are overweight. I think it was a good topic to bring up and talk about so that we can be aware of the things that may be going on in our heads that we don't realize until we hear another person admit it. I honestly think she was brave for admitting that she does, no matter how awful it might be, because getting it out maybe she can realize what is at the core of it so she can work through it.

I will say as I did there that sometimes I feel embarrassed for other people who are very obese, mostly because of embarrassment I've felt myself before in similar situations. It seems like to me the majority of the time when people do this that it's they dislike their former self or something of the like. More like anger at yourself directed outward to others that remind you of it. Projecting, I guess?

I agree with you though, it's important to remember no matter what weight we end up, we all started in the same place and a little kindness can go a long way. I don't know about other people, but I do think that personally I will continue counseling throughout this process, because I have a lot of unresolved issues with food, weight, and self-image. The sooner we can identify the things we feel and our faults, the sooner we can go about being better, more accepting people. =)[/quote']

Yeah, I'm sorry but I didn't kno there was a thread like that here on this board. Knowing that we do have it makes me disappointed also, but this rant comes from a personal experience I witnessed 1st hand which made me angry.

  15. I agree! I feel like a few certain people in my life that have lost a lot of weight (and a few on this site for that matter) have hopped on their high horses and make others feel bad. Even just for asking questions or making not so good food choices and confessing. It makes me feel mad/ hurt too' date=' but all we can do is control our own actions and support others that are struggling.[/quote']

Is a sad epidemic Its just sad... I guess people are truly self loathing and can't stand themselves.

  16. I agree with everything you said' date=' but what brought that on? Something on this forum? There was a recent "fat on fat hate" thread.[/quote']

Iono if there is anything like that on this forum and I pray there is is not, but this is coming from my personal experience. Meaning my friend weighed literally 400+lbs an she use to cry all the time about the way people made her feel. Mind you she has an amazing personality, extremely intelligent and witty. She is def the type of person you would live to have as a friend. Moving out 2 years ago she had gastric bypass and list all the weight. Fast forwarding I noticed that's every since the transformation she has been insulting obese people and making them feel bad about their weight instead of actually helping them. I mean damn you USE to walk their shoes now you wanna despise them becaus they remind you of your past? I that's the case I strongly feel these actions are more psychological and need to get dealt with.

  17. As a sleeved patient especially post op you should already know the struggles on both sides of fence. I think it's disgusting for a former obese person to criticize another obese person because you were once in their shoes so you should at least understand more than anyone else their pain and suffering. Instead I looking down on them like the world looked down on you, why don't you try to do the opposite and help them the way you helped yourself when no helped you? Why don't you try to enlighten them. I'm not saying do the work for them, I'm saying give them the blueprint to follow.

As an obese person it's hard enough trying to maneuver around the insults and feelings of insecurity, no pun intended. So why would you make another person go through the same **** you are desperately trying to change in your own life? Why being them down to a place where you once felt the most vulnerable?

How can you look at your fellow obese comrade or friend and judge them so easily and disgustingly? My question is do you hate yourself THAT much that you have to portray your faults on to others to make yourself feel better? If that's the case you will need more than this surgery to accomplish ya goals becaus this sounds more psychological then physical.

I dont know about you all but I've neer been a negative person during my obese or slim stage. I've always remained position and kept my head in the game at all times and that helped me push myself further. In the process it ave me the strength to assist other going through what I went through. I'm a strong believer in karma becaus I'm a stronger advocate for support .

  18. what are your thoughts about insanity? can i get some weight training with insanity? do you think will also help with my core?

update: my 2nd day i worked on my lower (legs)' date=' my shoulder and arms are sore! 3rd day i'm going to rest. :)

also, i will the net and make up a schedule to work 2-3 body parts 4-5 days starting next week.

BIG THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP! i don't think i would be weight training if it wasn't for you and this thread! [/quote']

No insanity is too intense and half the people who "claim" to use it never really finish it cause of the difficulty. Your best bet is to start with p90 then work ya way up to p90x and actually insanity.

Make sureto stretch after your workouts. I couldn't stress this anymore. It is extremely important to stretch to prevent injury and in the process less the recovery time and soreness pain.

  19. I just discovered this thread. If you don't mind sharing your expertise' date=' I have a couple of questions.

I've been doing low weights, high reps, combined with 1 workout of 3 heavy weights to exhaustion of the muscle. So, if I do legs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, then I do LWHR on T and Th, then heavy weights, low reps on Saturday. I'm seeing a lot of muscle tone and some improvement in strength doing it this way. I'm working my way up to pull ups with both arms and legs. I'm still pretty heavy, 241, so I'm not having lots of success with the pull ups. Is there a better way to get to my pull up goals? Should I just continue to try doing them once a week like I'm doing, or do I add them to one or all of my weekly workouts?

Second, I just found out today that I have to lose 70 more pounds for the plastic surgeon to do my Tummy Tuck. Are there specific weight exercises/cardio combinations I should be doing so that I lose the fat in my torso rather than losing muscle mass in my arms?

I'm almost a year out and I do cardio 7 days a week, if that information helps.[/quote']

Well u only need to work legs twice a week. Since we use our legs EVERYDAY nonstop to get around we need to give them time to heal also. Jus do t an th and rest them over the weekend. Dont exert the muscle.

The workout routine u are doing is good since it consist of Interval training. What u should do is heavy/low reps Tuesday's and light/high reps Thursday. This way you will actually be stretching and mobilizing the muscle from Tuesday in Thursday. This increases blood flow to the muscles and speeds up recovery time over the weekend.

As far as pulls there is no easy way besides using the machine for assistance. You just gotta pract everyday and you eventually build up the strength to do it. Trust me.

Interval Cardio is the best way to Lose body fat. That means you gotta run, jog, walk on the treadmill. Mix it up in you hr of cardio.
